I started Dragon Quest 8 the other day. I am finishing up Alexandria, and Jessica has changed into her adventurin' clothes and stormed out of the house.

She's, uh, got her physics turned up pretty high, huh?

    (That is all.)

Dragon quest heroes 2 weird sounding dialogue

    Posted: 13 Nov 2021 10:00 AM PST

So I'm playing Heroes 2 on my ps5, and the dialogue for when they talk during gameplay sounds really weird? Like it's a bit distorted and sounds kinda robotic? Anyone have any clues? It's fine during cutscenes, but during gameplay like in town or out fighting it's all weird sounding.

DQ11-Played Demo Years Ago, Should I restart?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2021 09:17 PM PST

Played the Demo whenever it came out and bought the game. For some reason never ended up starting the game. Now I'm in the mood for a good RPG and thus keeps coming up. Should I load up the demo save file and start there or just start over?

VI could have used a better explanation with the skills, in my opinion.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2021 02:06 PM PST

Just got into the series, starting of with 3, then 4 and 5 and pretty much had a blast. They're all pretty great, 5 is a masterpiece needless to say.

Anyway I was looking forward with 6 from the beginning, since i usually love job system in rpgs. Playing it now, I guess I reached the moment where I had too many skills that I don't know which one to use, which cause me to take too long to decide my actions. Then I ended up becoming lazy, and leave it up to the AI to decide. (I dont do this previously) This cause treading the dungeons becoming a little bit boring. I've fallen asleep a couple times while playing, and when its time for boss battle came, I ended up struggling because I am unfamiliar with my character abilities. Sometimes I kinda miss the standard, "attack" spamming Alena with falcon earring equipped + oomph.

I think part of the problem is how vague and unclear is the explanation of the abilities in the localization are. They dont tell you exactly what they do mechanically but more on trying to visualize them. On the other hand, I went to the DQ wiki and look at the DQ7 PS1 translation for similar abilities and while they lack the fluff of modern translation, they actually tell you exactly what it does.

Couple more gripes for me with the game is that, weapon seems to taken a step back in this game. I feel less excited when finding new ones, since I already had 0 MP skills that could possibly did the same thing better. At this point, I'm still unsure which is stronger for Carver, normal attack skill with Fire Claw, or the various martial art moves that he had learned.

Party chat seems to be less interesting and lack personality comparing to 4 and 5. I was super excited to learn about character because they all look great design-wise. Ashlyn seems like a fun character .But the party chat ended up feeling similar to each other, and because of there's no portrait and random order of appearance I always ended up mistaken who said what because i read fast and naturally expect the next character to speak. For example at times, I had Carver's voices in my head, and then looking again it was Ashlyn who said that. It breaks immersion in some sort.

I can understand the lack of story but at least for 3, the exploration makes up for it, but It dont feel that exciting with this one. It mostly an area with a town and there's a cave next to it, and you can pretty much see where it's going

This is my thought of the game. Anyone agree with me? I dont feel like continuing with this one, although i believe I already got far into the game ( I obtained the flying bed). I'm thinking of going to skip ahead to PS1 version of 7. I know there's a remake but i much prefer the old-school engine that 4-6 remake were based on. I know it's probably going to have some similar problem with 6 but at least with this one, I'll understand what each of my abilities does.
