    In DQX, you can recruit people from the bar whether its random folks or your friends and use them as npcs in battle! Its very similar to DQ9 in this aspect and if someone recruits you, you gain exp! There is a free trial out now with a new revolutionary translation tool called ahkmon available now!!

    Hi all. Been away from DQ8 fire about six months and trying to go back. I was doing some reading and it looks like I needed to do Pirates Cove (I see the ultimate key in my inventory but not the illuminated map). I can't engender if I had been in the cave before but it's definitely not open right now, I keep passing under the bridge and nothing and there is no opening. I believe this is where I should be as I don't have the illuminated map.

    Does the Cove stay open once you were in it or if you completed it can you not return?

    How do I get the map?

    Lore heavy discussion

    So I've been thinking a lot about DQ lore and have so many thoughts that I don't even know how to order them. So lets just start with the base of my multiple theories: In DQ 11 there's a triple timeline split (for the purpose of these theories I'll be referring to the heroes by the closest thing to a canon name they have). We do know that canonically Seranica causes a timeline split when she uses a sword of light to break the time sphere and save the world in her time period causing a different order of events whilst Eleven creates a better timeline then his by breaking his sword of light as well. However like we saw, when Seranica broke the sphere, the timeline she was currently on kept going even when she permanently returned to the past. So: what happened to Eleven's original timeline? This theory doesn't have a lot to go on, but the similarities between the Zenithian sword and the Supreme Sword of Light are uncanny. What if the Zenithian Sword is a repaired and modified Supreme Sword of Light that was left behind in the original timeline? Left without a Hero to properly rebuild it? Plus there isn't much Orichalcum left to make another one anyways if evil returns to Erdrea or the country that takes its place in the future. Let me get to the point: DQ 11's original timeline leads to the Zenithian trilogy whilst Eleven's better timeline in which they save Veronica leads to the Erdrick trilogy. And hopefully other games can fit into Seranica's timeline if they can't fit anywhere else. I also have a little bonus theory: what if the power of the luminary weakens with each descendant? This one's a bit small and glum but, I noticed that if you take a look at Eleven, Arusu, Alef and Allen, every time a descendant is born they have access to less and less spells. Obviously I know that's because the games literally released backwards (if you switch DQ 1 and 2) so they simply had less hardware to put more spells in the game, but maybe they could neatly explain it by saying that the power of the luminary weakens with each descendant. Obviously we know that Arusu, Alef and Allen are related but what about Eleven? Its not entirely stated but I do think Arusu is Eleven's descendant cuz of the fact that they both share the title of Erdrick, a title which has been passed down by blood canonically confirmed up until DQ 3's release. As a side note I heard someone say they thought Arusu was a descendant of Erwin but the fact that Yggdragon herself tells Eleven in the end of the game that heroes will rise in the future, and that afterwards they literally show Alef, I highly doubt she'd be referring to heroes on an entirely different timeline. And even if Erwin truly is Arusu's true ancestor, it doesn't affect my power weakening theory since Eleven is just Erwin reincarnate thanks to the fact that Erwin didn't have descendants in the original timeline. So basically Erwin's power is probably equal or close to Eleven's. In essence, I think that the power of The Luminary/Erdrick weakens every time its passed down. From Eleven who could cast frickin Kazzaple to Allen who is completely unable to use MP. But yeah by all means tell me your thoughts!

    In which games does "Focus on Healing" work properly?

    I'm currently playing through Dragon Quest VI and I'm getting really frustrated that "Focus on Healing" apparently means "waste all your magic casting offensive spells so you have none left for healing with".

    I'm sure this wasn't a problem in Dragon Quest VIII, IX, or XI?

    Are there other games where "Focus on Healing" actually works properly?

    Just 100%ed DQ 11 S on PC, and one thing caught my attention/is bugging me. (Spoilers ahead)

    So, with the whole Tockington sidequest, when you beat the End of Time, the Friend of Time says he did it all to make sure the Luminary was ready to fight Calasmos....but you can't fight the End of Time until you've already fought Calasmos at least once. I realize that technically you haven't beaten him at that point storyline-wise, but external-player-wise you have beaten him at least once to get the item required to complete the last task and unlock the last book.

    Why was the option to play as a heroine dropped in 6 and later?

    I get why you couldn't in 5, but it's strange that in 6,7,8 the options gone and it's still puzzling me, does anyone have an idea why you could have a playable main heroine in 3,4,9 and not in the rest of the series?
