Scrolling bug in Zoma's room (DQ3 for Android) Posted: 14 Sep 2021 04:06 AM PDT Hi everyone, I was completing a solo run on DQ3 for Android yesterday and I noticed something I hadn't paid attention to during my "normal" run a few months ago: in Zoma's room, after the fight against "Soul of Baramos", the screen no longer scrolls when I go up so I end up going off the screen to fight "Bones of Baramos". When I beat it, the scrolling "catches up" and I can go to Zoma. However, if I go outside the room after having beaten Bones of Baramos or if I quicksave, leave the game and load my quicksave, the scrolling of the room will be definitely broken, so I'll have to move my Hero off of the screen till he reaches Zoma. I managed to find a YouTube vid of someone playing DQ3 on Android till the end and he doesn't have this issue but he plays it on such a tall screen (I play on a 5" screen) that scrolling isn't really an issue for him in this room: https://youtu.be/kzeXhShAs64?t=569 So, does someone have the same problem as I ? Thanks in advance for sharing knowledge! [link] [comments]

What is the better version of Dragon Quest V between PS2 and DS? Posted: 14 Sep 2021 09:12 AM PDT I'm looking into Dragon Quest V, but I'm unsure which version to go with between PS2 and DS, so I thought I would ask the community to get some input on the matter. If I go in the direction of DS for which version, how much will the touchscreen be used (if at all)? [link] [comments]
Beating the DQ Games in Order, My thoughts after finishing DQ VI Posted: 13 Sep 2021 05:53 PM PDT So after beating I-III on the Switch, and IV and V on the DS, it was time to tackle VI on the DS. I thought I'd share my thoughts with you below. Gameplay: This game has a phenomenal vocation system. I really liked how the battles gave exp, and that vocation levels were tied to the number of battles fought. In Dragon Quest III, I felt like the grinding was a bit uneven because of how quickly you'd level after changing vocations. In this one, I felt like changing vocations was nowhere near as punishing, because of the separation of levels. Also the idea of combining vocations to get to an advanced one was so clever, although I admit I did look up some of them outside the game. I really enjoyed this part of the game, and the combat in general was very challenging and fun. The dungeons weren't tremendously memorable to me, but they were fine. Exploration: I would give this very high marks as well. It felt really open, like Dragon Quest III, but I honestly got lost a few times. I wound up resorting to the fortune teller when I got stuck (as well as looking up things in a guide if I got really stuck). A couple of times I would wander into an area I clearly had no business being in, and die horribly. It made for a less than fun experience. Also, can we talk about how this game basically has four maps? The real world, dream world, underwater, and the dread realm It's a little ridiculous, and quite a bit overkill. I took notes while I was playing, and I still got confused. I will say that this game did a good job of giving most of the areas a distinct personality, and I really felt like the towns were distinct, but having two versions of most towns added to the confusion. Overall this just felt like such an open world that I got really confused, but I never wanted for exploration, and I enjoyed seeing what was around every corner. Story: Ok, so this is where it falls apart for me. After playing through IV, which had a phenomenal villain, party characters, and story, and playing through V, which really connected me to my character and his life events, VI just falls flat. It felt really good and compelling up until I beat Murdaw , then it just felt like a lot of the rest of the story just sort of hangs together. It had a nasty habit of introducing too many villains, while simultaneously not making any of them very compelling. The characterization was all over the place, the stuff with the dream world and the real world was so inconsistent that I wound up confused. While individual story beats in towns were pretty good, it just never felt that earned. Sure the stuff that was happening was awesome most of the time, but it felt like the moments of this game just kind of hang in isolation, and aren't really connected to any sort of supporting structure. It really felt like they just tried to cram in too much, and I feel like this game would have benefited from a "less is more" mindset. Also half the party just kinda feels like its there. We get story beats for most of them, but a lot of them happen with absolutely no foreshadowing. I literally rolled my eyes when it turned out that Milly and Terry are related. There was just no setup, and it felt very forced. Side Activities: Mini medal collecting is as fun as it ever was. I really enjoy how these games reward exploration, and it was cool. The style contests were pretty sub-par for me. I did enjoy leveling up all the vocations. Some of the other side content like the monster arena was... well, honestly pretty meh for me. It's cool that it had other stuff to do, but to be honest I skipped over a lot of it because I just didn't find it as compelling as battle. Also Slip 'n' slime... definitely a thing. Yep, definitely there. Definitely felt like an excuse to use my DS's stylus. Final Thoughts: Overall this game is pretty good. The music and graphics are truly great, and you can tell that they put a lot of effort into them. It's definitely not the worst of the first six I played, but I think it suffers some by comparison to having just played IV and V. I felt strangely compelled to keep playing, largely because of the battles which I thought were crazy fun, and because the game just throws so much at you. This is definitely how you do a class/vocation system though, and I'm looking forward to diving into 7 next. [link] [comments]
A headcanon and an implied thing Posted: 13 Sep 2021 04:38 PM PDT Just a quick warning, this is gonna be kinda character and lore spoiler-y, so be careful if you haven't played. Implied thing: Dave is old enough to be Sylvando's dad. According to TvTropes, Dave climbed through the Zwaardsrustian Royal Navy. Now, I'm inclined to believe this website because they can't just give tropes without research. If it's true (and also going by Sylvando's age, which is 29), that would mean that Dave is at least 49, probably older. Headcanon: Sylvando is either Bi or Straight. There was a Japan only character interview where Sylvando said his preference is people who persevere, which leads me to believe bi. I believe could be either because there's a party talk or two that specifically points out an interest in women. Him acting gay is really him acting campy with the majority of it being for theatrics. Any campiness left that he might do under normal situations is out of habit. [link] [comments]
Regarding DQV: How big of a spoiler is this? Posted: 13 Sep 2021 03:33 PM PDT So... I was reading this article, in which the author ranked all the main line Dragon Quest games, and I came across this: Throughout the game, players believe they are the prophesied chosen one that will defeat the great evil. In actuality, the hero's child is the chosen one. ... which seems like a pretty huge spoiler. And now I'm bummed out, because I was actually planning on playing this game next. I'll still play it, but I just wanted to know from other people who have played the game if this is as huge of a spoiler as I'm making it out to be in my head. Needless to say, please don't include other spoilers in your answers. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Should Dragon Quest III HD-2D add physical skills? Posted: 13 Sep 2021 02:06 PM PDT So far in every version of DQ3 that exists, the Warrior and Monk class's main characteristic is its strong physical attack, but the users are stuck with their only damage dealing option being the basic "Attack" command, unless they came from being in a previous class. Which honestly makes them very boring to bring along compared to any magical or gimmicky class. Sequels and future installments have a added a ton of non-magic skills that characters like Yangus, DQ8's Morrie in the 3DS version, Jade, DQ11's Eight Hendrik or the physical-based classes of DQ6, 7 and 9 have became users of, making them much more fun to bring along for battles. The re-releases of DQ3 never avoided updating or adding features, it did on the Super Famicom and the Game Boy Color versions. It was after the questionable mobile version (Which later on was ported to current consoles) that the game became stagnant and didn't update the its features anymore. So, would be a good idea to retroactively add more skills from the newest games to the 2D-HD version of DQ3? Or maybe it screws up the balance of the game too much? I would like to hear opinions. I think it would make the game fresher to play at least, having warriors performing actual skills to defend the party, thieves that can actively steal and monks hitting with guaranteed crit skills would be so much fun. Not to mention that we'd be able to kill Metal Slimes in this game, it's so frustrating to not be able to deal with them and see them run away after playing more recent titles. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Sep 2021 01:42 PM PDT Hey all, I'm gonna be playing through Dragon Quest IX again in a few days, and was making characters based off of my friends. This included having them pick out their character's vocation, and a lot of them chose vocations that you unlock later on via quests. I know what to start my eventual paladin and sage as (warrior and mage/priest respectively) . Problem is, I'm not sure which vocations to have the eventual luminary, armamentalist, and ranger start out with? Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
