After casino grinding a lot and level grinding more, I finally completed DQV DS. I did put it off for quite awhile. Great game. Monster recruiting RNG not so much. Will eventually start DQMTW before heading to 6.

Done Trying out the DQXI demo and have some thoughts and questions

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 08:51 AM PDT

Ok. So first off, this is my first DQ game I'm trying other than the DQM:J and DQM:J2 games and let me just say this is one of the better experiences with games I've recently tried based on suggestions from other gamers. I think it's because I enjoy the JRPG that DQM brings and it has the same concept in this game too but slightly different.

I don't think I missed anything gameplay wise in the first part before the portal to the Sauna village area with team members 3 and 4 but I think that is debatable on my part. I also managed to get some decent levels into my team (level 13) but I still think I wanna grind levels and pearls while I wait for my next income to buy the full game. My experience so far has been enjoyable and I love the voice acting but I can see why this game is a grind in some cases.

    ...

    My only questions are:

    1) what level should I be to be in line with the next companion's Level?

    2) does this game level everyone or just the main team fighting for experience?

    3) what skills are beneficial around this point (or possibly around level the next companion's starting level)?

    4) Anything I need to prepare for past the Spa and Volcano area?

    5) Any tips for past this point (where I'm stuck at with demo)?

Looking to Buy a Case (the case only) for DQ8 3DS

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 10:30 AM PDT

I've recently won a copy of Dragon Quest VIII for the 3DS on eBay, but it doesn't come with the case.

I was wondering if anyone here would willing to sell me or give me a case for the game.

Screw you too Square Enix [spoilers]

    Posted: 14 Sep 2021 07:19 PM PDT

Awesome game so far. But middle finger to Square Enix for the Tentacular fight in XI. Here I was thinking the game was a little too easy and then BOOM skill check. Honestly guys, I was sitting here like " How in the hell do they expect you to do this?" After the 10th time of getting my ass completely handed to me I creeped the interwebs and lo and behold I find out about the cannon. Now as far as I know they give you no indication that you can go borrow a blank cannon that turns that IMPOSSIBLE fight into actually doable. Like wtf.

Seriously tho I'm just a tad bit butthurt. I feel like this was definitely a troll move on their part and I kinda simultaneously both love them and hate them for it. 😆

Wow DQXI turned from a really fun game to a chore RNG fest pretty quickly...

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:05 AM PDT

The game is full of RNG, it is like a roulette but seriously up to the Restless knight the game is fine and it is a quite good challenge and nothing feels unfair, but them this part of the game comes up and it really just feels like the game just starts cheating on you, the first offender is this Restless knight but now I am on the Jade+Booga combo battles and the Jade one is tolerable but the Booga one is another example of bad game design or maybe not bad game design but outright cheating from the cpu.

It just feels lame that you get CC'd constantly without nothing to do is just a really cheap way to try to make things difficult for the player, I honestly don't believe things will become better because this to me clearly shows that from this point forward many fights will become this circus RNG slot machine of status effects thrown at you constantly... maybe I am wrong but that is what I am feeling currently.

What's the consensus on Blue Dragon from DQ fans?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2021 08:50 PM PDT

I thought Blue Dragon was great. While it contained quite different gameplay, the party and battle system were really fun for me. I actually like it better than some DQ games. The game didn't recurve the best reviews, but it absolutely felt like I was playing some alternate timeline Dragonquest game.

Wondering if anyone knows where I can find this...

Hey r/dragonquest, I just started the DQ series and my girlfriend is a super big fan of the series. I wanted to try and get her a slime plush as a surprise gift and I was wondering if maybe you guys had any idea on where to get a good quality one. I'd like it to be a good size, but I guess it doesnt matter too much as long the quality is good.

    Thanks again

The HexaDrive recruitment site job description "welcome skills" seemingly suggests DQ12 will have both action and turn-based elements??

The HexaDrive recruitment site job description "welcome skills" seemingly suggests DQ12 will have both action and turn-based elements??

Edit: I also noticed how "Command battle (turn-based battle)" is used. Yuji Horii also used the term "command battle" when DQ12 was first revealed so maybe it was just his way of saying "turn-based"

    thoughts on vocations vs skills?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2021 10:12 AM PDT

i'm of the camp that 7 has the best power system in it's vocations. the ability to build up a character with multiple facets and fine tune them exactly how i want has always appealed to me more than skill points. also the outfits from 7 are cute.

however i do see the other side, it may fit better for characterisation that say for example Serena dq11 can't be made into a gladiator. but part of me still wants to train her to punch people. just wondering people's general thoughts on this and hopes for the skill system of dragon quest 12?

What are the best builds for the Dragon Quest 8 party?

    Posted: 14 Sep 2021 02:35 PM PDT

    I am thinking:

Here: Swords (100), Fisticuffs (42), Spears (100), and Courage (100).

Yangus: Axes (100), Fisticuffs (42), Kindness (100), and Hammers (100).

Jessica: Fisticuffs (100), Staves (100), Whips (100), and... Idk there isn't really anything else that's good.

Angelo: Charisma (100), Bows (100), and Staves (100).

How are these for the original party?

I don't really know what is best for Red or Morrie. I think knives, and her signature skill are a must but I have never recruited Morrie so I have no idea what the best options are.
