    Hi and welcome to r/dragonquest !

    Dragon Quest is a series of traditional turn-based Japanese Role-playing games (JRPGS) that feature colorful enemies, heartwarming music, a strong sense of character, intriguing stories, and solid gameplay. While traditional, Dragon Quest games have been quite influential, being among the first JRPGs for consoles and consistently featuring innovations (such as monster taming in Dragon Quest 5 years before Pokemon popularized it). There are also a large number of spinoffs in different categories -- Action RPG, Voxel Builder, monster raising, and more!

    Although the wiki is intended as an introduction to the series, you are still welcome to post your own "which Dragon Quest should I play" posts. Why? Because, just like every player is unique, so is every Dragon Quest. It's less about "Which Dragon Quest is Best" and more about "Which Dragon Quest might I enjoy the most?"

    So, while this post is hopefully a fun starting point for new members, please do feel free to ask questions and read through some recommendations from others in the comments below or in archived threads. (I'm relying on experts from this subreddit to help me out -- Please give feedback below! The task is too big for one person.)

    This subreddit is designed to be a welcoming place to discuss and share our love for the series. Of course, not everyone will love every game, but as fans we can critique the series without making it a personal attack on other fans.

    Could be either specifics about each game or one game in the series, or the series overall.

    For me, it's its overall charm. The simple yet enticing storytelling that never takes itself too seriously, on top of the fantastic art and music. Toriyama's art is perfect for the series and one aspect I especially love.

    Sylvando my beloved

    So, I'm a male. When i began my DQ11 journey, I was a STRAIGHT male. Jade, Serena, and Gemma solidified this. Then I talked to Sylvando more and more and now I'm pansexual. I attribute my sexuality entirely to sylvando because he is perfect.

    A question about some things in act 3. (Act 3 ending spoilers)

    So in act 3 when the hero travels back in time, I thought this was to undue the damage and suffering caused by mordegon, because he has killed so many including a companion. I thought he was literally undoing the timeline.

    Yet as part of the act 3 ending scenes, we see serenica do the same thing once gifted with luminary power and the sword of light, yet the timeline the heroes were in isn't destroyed, it's not reverted back to the 'age of heroes'

    Does this mean that the other timeline still exists, as in when mordegon destroyed erdrea, just now without the hero, and wouldn't that technically mean there should be now 2 hero's in the current timeline? Lol

    Honestly I know dragon quests strengths are not its narrative, so a lot of things don't bother me, but this seems a major piece of the story. I have now finished dq xi with my team level 99 and this has been bugging me xD.

    Also, this topic may have been beaten to death already, so sorry if I am late lol. I know the game came out in 2017.

    Just completed the main story of DQ11 - what is there to do in post game?

    Really enjoyed it. Only like level 46-48 so I was defo under levelled for the final boss but managed to win it.

    But yeah not sure if I missed it in game but I'm not sure what to do post/end game.

    Dragon quest 3 android crash at Ramia

    Dragon Quest XI edits, which one I should do next

    The DQ3 map is roughly the map of the "real" world - this make me think if this all happens in some post-apokalyptic future of the Earth, where magic emerged (similar to the Death Gate novel series for example, or Etrian Odyssey game). But DQ11 is a prequel to DQ3 and the shape of the world is different here, so this makes room for some additional thoughts or different explanation, or maybe DQ11 is way back in time, in Earth prehistory for example.

    Spoilers for endgame… regarding a certain sword.

    So this is only my second dq game, I played 8 when it released for ps2, so I am definitely new to the series. I think for the sword of light, the ones you can forge (not the one in the tree that was forged by erdwin ) you should have the option whether it's a sword or great sword.

    I've always been a great sword user in any rpg that has them, just like the look of them over regular swords. Iirc great swords as a class of sword is relatively new for dq. That portion of the game just felt weird, was using great swords for the game but that part clearly wanted you to use the sword of light, it felt weird for the first play through.

    Not a huge deal, and still love the game regardless , just a thought. I feel like by act 3 they definitely intended hero using swords (wielding a sword of light in each hand is badass also). Kind of like how Eight can also use great swords, but his best/ unique gear is around sword and shield.

    Looking for more dragon quest stuff

    So i'm nearly done dragon quest 11 and started playing dragon quest builders 2 and I love it. ( game mechanics are excellent and Malroth is cute and I love him)I'm looking for other dragon quest stuff,what do you reccomend?

    Also bonus: Found part of a dragon quest 11 Character book translated online,does anyone know where I can find the rest? Along with dragon quest books in general? What about drama Cds,etc ( Think there's one about Sylvia/ Sylvando out there). I like the game play and lore of dragon quest so I'm pretty interested in digging further into it.

    So, when i was Younger, jrpgs on snes and GBA would be like 90% of what i played. I just loved everything about them, even the grind didnt bother me ( granted, i was playing on emulator só i could just speed it up lol ). But some time after i started working full time, i Lost my love for them 😔, they just got repetitive and boring. I tried NiNo kuni 2 a while ago, and i enjoyed it quite a lot. Now recently, i played DQ xi...and oh boy, did i love it. I mean it has its flaws ( major one for me was the design for almost every single enemy being waaay too cute lol), but it was definitely a good experience, and it sort of revived my love for the genre.

    So, my question is, any good sugestions on games similar to DQ ??? I tried a couple on ps now, but they all had this low budget,indie,check out all this waifus, vibe.

    Hey everyone I'm a new comer to the dragon quest series and I have a question what game should I start with? I recently got a physical copy of the first trilogy of games on switch but I heard that I shouldn't play it. I really don't know what game I should play first and I really want to play these games.
