I think this Dragon Quest XI is gonna become my favorite video game of all time Posted: 11 Nov 2021 03:50 AM PST This is my first time ever playing the game, and I'm really glad I got it. I just got Jade and Rab on my team. And let me just say, that ceremony to put the Luminary's parents to rest, is one of the most emotional moments I've ever seen in a video game, then Jade saying she doesn't wanna let go of the Luminary while the two are both falling from the cliff again such a heartbreaking moment. This game is a true masterpiece. And I love it. [link] [comments]

Cryptic Catacombs is the worst dungeon in any video game, ever. Posted: 11 Nov 2021 09:47 AM PST I thought people's criticisms of this game were a bit harsh... until I found this god-forsaken, never-ending hell hole. It encapsulates every complaint into a single dungeon (extremely long mazelike dungeons, very high encounter rates, ridiculously convoluted in-game hints, shit tons of dead ends, rooms look identical). This is by far the worst dungeon in the entire series, if not any RPG ever. The legendary shield is located here (thus making it mandatory to complete). No in-game hint tells you this except a single line of dialogue from a random Soldier in a town at the other end of the world map... kind of. What he says is incredibly convoluted and could mean one of several locations. He says that the shield might be located in a cave at the end of a river. Guess how many caves are located at the end of a river? FIVE. Other NPCs hint that a crime family has it. Another NPC says they gave it to the king as a gift. Neither the crime family or the king have anything to say about the shield, so the entire run-around the town was essentially pointless. The NPCs are literally wrong and send you on a wild goose chase. Another NPC says that he read something about a golden dragon, a strange wall and a hidden staircase. Alright, this must have something to do with the shield. I'll remember this. After exploring literally every cave located near a river, I cheated and used a walkthrough. It was a cave I had already explored and found multiple mini medals and a suit of Spike Armor in previously. It was called Cryptic Catacombs. Once I cleared the cave of (seemingly) all treasure, I left and never came back until I checked the walkthrough after literal days of wandering around the map looking for more in-game hints about the shield. There are none. Apparently you need to navigate an impossible maze to find the real entrance to the cave. I managed to navigate far enough to find the Spike Armor the first time and naturally assumed it was the end; it took about an hour of exploring this enormous cave to find the Armor. This is where it gets confusing. You need to navigate an endless series of hallways perfectly to get to the bottom of the cave. It is unbelievably difficult. The exact path that you must follow is this: Up, left, right, up, up, right, left, down, left, down. If you mess up once, you return to the beginning of the cave. The first time I came here, I somehow managed to fumble my way through about halfway, found lots of treasure and was sent back to the beginning. I definitely thought that was it. No hint telling me otherwise and the dungeon was adamant about sending me back to the beginning. How silly of me, I just didn't follow the perfect path. Did I mention the cave is ENORMOUS? Once I used a walkthrough and finished the maze, I found another huge room filled with small hallways and multiple dead ends. In the middle is a golden dragon; jackpot, I read about this. Time to find the strange wall and find the hidden staircase. 45 minutes later and I don't see a weird wall. I cheat again. Obviously the hint was a fake like half of the others related to this quest because it's just plainly wrong. Apparently the "strange wall" is just a regular wall. It's completely normal and has no distinguishing features. I search around for a hidden staircase along basically every surface because I must be close. Takes about 10 minutes but I found it. I reach a small room with 2 staircases, one leading up and one leading down. Little did I know but this is also a fucking impossible puzzle. To actually progress, you need to go down 3 times the downward staircase (leads to nowhere, all rooms are identical. You can continue downwards forever, there is no end). If you do not go down 3 times exactly, you're sent back to the top. If you somehow manage to do this, you then need to climb back up two more times (do not go more or less than 2, because again, you'll have to restart). Again, all rooms are identical. Once you randomly go up and down the perfect amount of times, you finally get to the bottom floor (yes, by going upwards you somehow end up at the bottom). This entire segment is not hinted at ever in-game and relies on the player to fuck up hundreds of times until they get it right. It took about an hour of wandering up and down the stairs before I finally gave up and used a walkthrough (it seemed like a glitch more than a puzzle). Finally. I can see the shield. Two paths ahead; one leads to the shield and another goes on for 2 minutes and leads to a dead end with nothing. Guess which one I picked? I turned around and beeline to the shield. I haven't mentioned this yet but the monsters are at their strongest in this cave so far; every battle is difficult. I get maybe 3 steps away from the shield. Total party wipe. I'm sent back to town. The end. None of that was fun at any point. Unrelated questions: do you know anyone who has ever completed a blind playthrough? Do you find DQ games boring/frustrating without a walkthrough? I find that there is usually at least 1 instance of bad game design which leads to getting lost and overleveling in almost every DQ game. It seriously detracts from the experience when the only solution is to look up the answer online; imo, DQ games are a nightmare for blind playthroughs. [link] [comments]
Are king slimes worth leveling? Posted: 11 Nov 2021 11:46 AM PST I finally managed to snag a king slime outside the Dominicus Dominion and I'm leveling it alongside a golem, but I noticed its max stats are pretty subpar and it can't equip anything useful, are king slimes just for novelty or are they actually worth using? Do they get any useful skills later that I should watch out for? I just wanna know before I put hours into grinding. [link] [comments]
What’s your Dragon Quest III Hero personality? Posted: 11 Nov 2021 11:23 AM PST Just thought it would be fun to share our experiences with the game. I for example, if I complete the quiz legitimately, always get the Selfish personality. That happens in both the GBC and Super Famicom versions. What's the one you usually get in your playthrough? How to find gear and recipes in XI? Posted: 11 Nov 2021 08:23 AM PST Hi all. I'm in the second part of the game. In the first part of the game it was simple to know where to get new gear and recipes. Every time you visited a new town you would find the next level of recipes and armor/weapons. Once I got to part 2 of the game (I'm back in arboria atm) I've been having a hard time finding new recipes and gear. Lots of my characters are using 2* difficulty gear when the typical gear around my level should be 3* difficulty. This leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong. Is my problem that I'm not doing enough side quests? How do you find level-appropriate gear as you go throughout the game? [link] [comments]
Dragon quest heroes 2 weird sounding dialogue Posted: 11 Nov 2021 10:54 AM PST So I'm playing Heroes 2 on my ps5, and the dialogue for when they talk during gameplay in the top left of the screen sounds really weird? Like it's a bit distorted and sounds kinda robotic? Anyone have any clues? [link] [comments]
Normal is too easy, draconian quest is too hard (need help) Posted: 11 Nov 2021 11:07 AM PST I played the game for a bit, I am in love with it so far, my only problem is that this is way too easy and not sure how to adjust it to my own taste. I have just arrived at Arboria with all 6 orbs. Party level is c.a. 35. It is so easy that it's detracting from my experience since I can auto-duel big boss fights and for the small ones I likely win on the first turn. Never really have been threatened by anything. It is actually sad because I like crafting better items, finding better weapons and spending my gold but there is no point so why bother, I just win anyway. Therefore I tried to start a new draconian quest playthrough with (1) stronger monsters and (2) reduced exp from lower level monsters. However now it definitely feels like it's too hard, I just did the introductory part (currently retrieving the Red Orb in the Kingsbarrow) and I am dying several times. Can't grind my way out of this because of the reduced exp option. I am now considering disabling one of these two draconian quest options, but which one? [link] [comments]
Text-Based Combat Update/Finished Posted: 11 Nov 2021 04:55 AM PST This is the link to the post I made for the combat test: https://replit.com/@dg9875/DW1-Combat-User-Version?c=135623. You'll have to find a list of enemies (like on a wiki here), because I added in manual enemy selection, as well as custom enemy creation. I was up kinda late finishing it last night, so if you'd like to try it out, any feedback, like on bugs or inconsistencies with the original game would be welcome. Credit to the biggest help in this whole project, Ryan8bit's Formula Guide on GameFAQs, also, because this would be extremely bootleg without it. [link] [comments]

Insulatle seems a little less valuable in later games Posted: 10 Nov 2021 04:13 PM PST In III to around VII-ish, Insulatle was invaluable for guarding against powerful breath attacks, and it would usually be the first buff I'd try to reapply after a Disruptive Wave. But after that I kind of feel like it got less valuable. I don't know if the spell is weaker, if the breath attacks got weaker or less frequent, or if I'm just wrong, but I almost never use it in VIII, IX, or XI. [link] [comments]
[MAJOR SPOILER] DQ3: I have the Yellow Orb! I have the Yellow Orb! That was soooo subtle... Posted: 10 Nov 2021 11:20 AM PST Finally I got the Yellow Orb. I thought vocation changing is not compulsory, but just an interesting add-on to the game: but the old man demanded a merchant so I decided to give it a try - now my former figther is in jail in his own city and brought me the fifth orb. Still one orb to go, not sure where to look for it, but maybe some other subtle stuff will reveal itself. I am glad I found this on my own. Please no spoilers or hints in the comments, I want to solve everything myself, if possible :) The echo flute was useless so far, but maybe that's the way to go, I just don't know where to start yet. WOW, this game is INGENIOUS. [link] [comments]

Never has an end game grind made me more angry than this game's Posted: 10 Nov 2021 12:01 PM PST I get that the liquid metal slimes are supposed to be slippery little bastards and run away a lot that's part of why they give such good XP. But why why why is one of the most frequent encounter they spawn in one with the annoying asshole wrecktors that just look laugh to themselves and go "time to add some more hatred to the world" and revive the little puddle of mercury only for it to immediately leave afterwards? Who the hell thought letting enemies revive each other was a good idea? Hitting level 30 in DQ1 was a cake walk compared to trying to get everyone to 50 in 2, I can only hope it's not this frustrating once I hit the endgame of 3. [link] [comments] |
