There is no Dragon Quest merch in my country so I have to make it myself — here's Shadow drawn with a 3D pen!

Finally decided to get the import of 1, 2, and 3. Having all these on physical copies makes me unreasonably happy!

    Defense of the DQ movie

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 03:59 AM PDT

Now I am a newcomer to this franchise. I'm playing 3 right now as my first but I wanted to add my thoughts for this movie.

I know that it is definitely not the best and the story differs quite a bit from the OG. And that ending was a big oof. BUT I think it did some things pretty well, as a newcomer's opinion.

Despite what I know are obvious cuts and changes, it still told a pretty cohesive story for the most part with many satisfying moments. All the twists in the movie worked for me at least and the bits of foreshadowing before the twists in the middle was spot on. Save for the last 15 minutes. We don't talk about that.

The voice acting for both versions were phenomenal and worked for their perspective language.

While the art design was different than the OG, I think that it does hold up to the original. Not better but it does still exude the charm of the original designs while redesigning it for the modern age.

Most importantly for me at least, it actually made me try DQ. When the Luminary/Hero was added to Smash, I acknowledged his and the series importance to the gaming world. Without DQ, many RPG games today wouldn't have gotten their start in the way that they did. But I didn't want to make the time investment to try a DQ game as personally I didn't really vibe with the art style and music that was present in the games.

What the DQ movie did for me, was show the phenomenal writing and adventure that was held in these games. I knew that the movie was not the entire story and it made me clamor for more which I think is it's biggest strong suit.

It may not be the most faithful interpretation of DQ (especially if that ending is anything to go by) but I do think that it'll have a special place in my brain next to Sword Art Online. It may have been bad, but it introduced me to a lot of good in the long run.

P.S I'm on Team Bianca. May change when I get to playing DQ5. Probably not tho.

How would you feel about DQ12 being a sequel to DQ11?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 08:46 AM PDT

In the ending we found out that 11 is actually a prequel to Dragon Quest 3 and that the hero in 11 is the first Erdrick. This was a great twist (again) and also creates some questions for the original game. So on the condition that DQ12 does NOT require you to play DQ11 would you like it to be a sequel?

Hypothetically this would take place after DQ2 and Builders 2. And revolve around re-connecting the overworld from DQ3 and Alefgard. And during the game the hero would figure out how the world got split in the first place, what happened to the yggdrasil tree, who took the sword of light from the heart of yggdrasil so it could be used in DQ3, and what happened to the supreme sword of light.

Would you guys want DQ12 to be a game like that?

    Help defeating Zuma in DQ3

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 08:38 AM PDT

I need help defeating Zuma, do I need to grind more or are these levels and equipment doable? Any tips and tricks will help. I use Light Orb on the first turn and I don't know where to go from there.

    Lv.35 Hero:

    - Sword of Kings

    - Auroral Armor

    -Hero's Shield

    -Great Helm

    -Mighty Armlet

    -Sage Stone

    Lv.34 Warrior:

    -Headman's Axe

    -Spiked Armor

    -Silver Shield

    -Great Helm

    -Weightlifter's Belt

    Lv.33 Fighter:

    -Dragon Claws

    -Stealth Suit

    -Tempest Shield

    -Black Bandana

    -Doh-Hican

    Lv.31 Sage:

    -Dragontail Whip

    -Dragon Robe

    -Silver Shield

    -Mythril Helm

    -Meteorite Bracer

EDIT: I beat Zoma, I had the Fighter do the Soul's Stone and had Sage buff each turn. Eventually, the fighter when down but I continued longer and not long before after, I defeated him! Now I can officially say I beat DQ1-3! It was an amazing game to end or the start of the Erdrick legend!

    Thanks

Can dragon quest 11 be played without grinding?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 10:24 AM PDT

I just finished a play through of ff7 but running from all non story battles. It's a really fun way to play through, because every little decision you make matters when you cannot grind to get past difficult challenges. And you can still do all the cool quests and secret bosses, just never grinding at all.

If I played through dragon quest 11 without grinding at all, would the game be possible still? Would it remain fun in the same way that ffvii does? For instance. In ffvii you must be very deliberate about the equipment and materia you bring to each boss fight because there is only a limited amount of spell xp available without grinding. Does dragon quest 11 have anything like that?

If dragon quest 11 isn't suitable to such a playthrough, any recommendations are welcome. I was also considering doing a run like this in ff xii...

DQ-11 : What's everyones choice when they get wiped?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 10:17 AM PDT

I'm deffo a save-every-chance kinda guy and coming from older RPG's it's my natural conditioning, so I always just goto a previous save and re-do any work.

Finally I finished the series. I got a bit burned out and skipped the treasure chests inside cave of rhone so I needed to use falcon blade against the final boss. I guess it wasn t a good idea lmao.

[DQ 11 SPOILER] Do we actually get to know what Rab said to...

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 09:14 AM PDT

Does the game reveal what Rab said to the tournament referee? I always try to talk to as many people as possible, but if this was revealed at any point, I'm afraid I missed it. I'm curious!

My speculation is that he promised them he would let them peek at that... Prestigious magazine of his. :D

Dragon Quest XI S Weapon Question

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 06:58 AM PDT

Wanted to find out if it is better for me to use the Falcon Blade for the double standard attack or to switch it for a stronger single hit sword. Zombiesbane would be my next one. Thanx.

Is it possible to overlevel and screw up stats/skill points of other party members before they join in DQ8?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 03:58 PM PDT

Right now Hero and Yangus are around level 15 and Jessica joined the party and is level 9 but doesn't have any skill points?

Is it possible I may have missed out on them because I'm too high of a level at this point in the game?

I know you can grind skill points in post-game but wondering if this will screw me over in the long run before I get to post-game?

    [DQXI] Pondering Casino-related questions...

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 10:55 PM PDT

I've been spending/wasting a lot of time in DQXI's casinos lately, trying to snap up all the casino-related Accolades. Some of them proved to be surprisingly easy. Others... not so much. On that note, there's a number of things I've found myself wondering about - can anyone answer this, or is it all still very mysterious?

Firstly, when the designated Jackpot Bunny of a given Casino says that she's got a feeling that someone will soon win the Jackpot, it supposedly increases your odds of hitting the Jackpot... but what, EXACTLY, qualifies as a 'Jackpot'? Five 7's during Silver Time on the regular slots and hitting the right space at the Roulette - those OBVIOUSLY do, fair enough, but does any of the things you can do in the remaining games count as a 'Jackpot'? Like, is there any way to win a Jackpot in the Slime Quest? What about Poker? Does Royal Jelly Flush or 10 Double-or-Nothings in a row count? Certainly, both of those provides jackpot-level payouts.

Secondly - somewhat related - is there ANY way to improve your odds of getting a Royal Jelly Flush or hitting 10 Double-of-Nothings in a row at the poker tables? Both seem to demand some fairly ridiculous levels of luck, on the face of it. Might the odds be better at the low-stakes tables than the high-stakes ones? Realistically, that wouldn't be the case, but since this IS a videogame, and there are fairly reliable indicators that the casino's (imperfectly) balanced to prevent you from earning too many tokens too quickly, it WOULD make sense...

Finally, a quick and simple Bonus Question: What is the 'Freeze' in Slime Quest? I initially assumed that it referred to the way the game shuts down on you if you hit 5000 spins in a day, but I tried that, and it didn't trigger the relevant Accolade, so... guess not?

How to make game less tedious?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 04:55 PM PDT

I need help, im playing 8 and im trying to get everybody to 99 and it's frustrating watching king metals run away all the time. Any tips to level effectively without burning me out? Or should i just take a break for a bit? I gotta say, 11 is a lot better in terms of xp and the time it takes to reach 99. 300,000 > 30,000

Question: What the tactics actually do?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 04:04 PM PDT

I have played Dq VII, VIII and XI and, I never fully grasped what some of the tactics do. Most of them are pretty straightforward or easy to understand:

    • Show No Mercy: frequent use of highly MP-costly abilities/spells, no use of support abilities/spells
    • Don't Use MP: simple attacks , no consume of MP whatsoever
    • Follow Orders : direct control on the actions
    • Focus on Healing: attack sparingly, make sure everyone is healthy

However I never figured it out on what Fight Wisely and Mix It Up really entail to, even less so what difference there is between the two of them and with Show No Mercy. Can anyone explain it to me? The brief description given for each of them in-game is really not enough (at least for me).

Furthermore, of all the AI tactics , which one enable the use of the supportive/defensive spells/abilities (oomph, magic barrier, Re-Vamp etc..)? I always had to manually use these types of abilities and i never seen the AI unleash them by itself.

Dragon Quest of the stars [Fake GPS]

    Posted: 10 Mar 2020 03:18 PM PDT

Dragon Quest of the stars [Fake GPS]

Hi, I'm playing Dragon Quest on my mobile phone and I want to ask if using a fake gps app is something against the Tems of Service of the game, in particular:

    • (l) use or distribute "auto" software programs, "macro" software programs or other "cheat utility" software program or applications;
    • (n) use the services in the device that are not compatible with the services;
    • (s) make false report to the company.

You may ask why I want to use a fake gps app and that's why:
"Wandering Adventures!" I can't find more that 2 players.
