I really hated the ending of 11 Posted: 04 Mar 2020 08:00 AM PST Before I say anything if you think the ending is beating Mordegon, turn back now, you've got more to do. I don't like time travel in stories, in my opinion it's not worth the headaches it can cause, and every time travel story ignores the moral issues with time travel which infuriates me. Stories that completely revolve around time travel I like, such as Doctor Who, because from the start you know there isn't going to be consistency. And with what I've seen I'd probably enjoy DQ7 since it falls into that category, and the time travel in DQ5 is minor enough that I don't mind. After the first third of DQ11 I would have been happy with time travel to undo the tree of life falling, because things seemed desperate enough that it was worth it. By the end of the second third I wasn't because for that entire journey I felt like I was learning to hope again, and that things could be fixed. And I did fix things, and if the game wanted to make me think the loss of life was large enough to warrant changing things it did a terrible job, because every town still feels populated, even Nautica which I assumed was completely destroyed, they just come back like "yeah, things are good now and the Queen amazingly didn't die." Then we get to the time tower and there's two things I hate about it. For starters there's already a time travel method in the game, the yggdrasil which is much more reliable if you can master it. Why not use that instead to hide veronica somewhere you can find her in the present and leave a decoy body everyone finds? Two I completely agree with every single party member that it's not worth the risk. This is where I should mention I'm new to the franchise, DQ11 was the second game I played, I've played some of the 3DS version of 8. I've always been skeptical of the silent self insert protagonist, I've never been one to project myself onto game characters like that. But throughout the second act I found myself doing just that for the first time ever, and then had that completely shattered at the tower where you're forced to time travel to experience the rest of the game. I'm getting to the ending I swear, but this stuff is important. After playing a little bit of the third act I started to think "maybe this was worth it." Because according to Pang in the afterlife, everyone who died while the tree was gone had their soul dissipate into nothingness. Ok, I can get behind avoiding that. Then we get to the ending, we beat the dark one, no problems here. Then we restore Serenica and she travels back in time to be with Erdwin. Here's all the issues this creates for me: I was under the impression we actively changed time when we time traveled, not that we created a different timeline. I know one of the reviewers I saw assumed that when the choice came but I didn't. Not being able to return home to me meant "you're going to change things so you can't go back to a future that no longer exists." So the one argument I had for time travel is completely moot because there's still a timeline where all those souls were lost. Additionally, we abandoned everyone we care about in the most selfish move imaginable just so we could have our good future. That's not even the worst part, according to the final ending 11 is a prequel to the Erdrick Trilogy, a Trilogy that no longer has the sword of light, so we've doomed that timeline by leaving and shattering the sword, and there's no material left to build another one. I know in the original games the sword of light didn't exist, but this ending seems to retcon it so that it does and is important. Even if it's not exactly those games we've still doomed a timeline. The game isn't even consistent in how time travel works, because Serenica doesn't shatter the sword of light when she does it. And my last issue, Serenica does this to be united with Erdwin. We know from our heroes parents that souls still exist once they die. Serenica created an alternate timeline so she could live a life with Erdwin. But in the process doomed Erdwin's soul in her original timeline to be alone for all eternity. Imagine his perspective, you die from one of your closest friends, and you never get to be reunited with your love. The game tries to frame her going back as a happy thing but the second you start asking questions it all falls apart. Without that scene all those other issues go away. Despite how frustrated I am I don't hate the game. The gameplay was fantastic, and I loved exploring the world. I'm just frustrated now because the best game mechanically to me has the worst ending, and I'll definitely have trouble going back to 8. I'm not giving up on this franchise though. I do want to get Builders 2 and play that. If 9 gets a remake I'll definitely get it if it's on PC. I just really needed to rant about this, none of my friends are Dragon Quest people yet and I really needed to rant about this, they might play it in the future so I can't spoil it for them. Posted: 04 Mar 2020 10:03 AM PST AKA The Sword of Ruin is terrible... disgustingly bad. Did a perfect clear my second try (I think 12-13 turns out of 25 for perfect clear), first try one guy died at the very end. So now let me explain, the Sword of Ruin does not need any evolution. You can get it straight up to +50 immediately. At +50 it will have 143 attack, effective against dragons and "higher crit and whiff rate." It's only available skill on weapon is Double-Edged Slash. At level 9/10 it has a 16 CD, 318% potency attack with 38% sustained to user as recoil. Meaning it will do a very large portion of your health on each use. I am a level 52 Battlemaster, so I thought maybe with Anger level 5 and other class skills it may be useful. NOPE. My +25 Metal weapon that has about 20 less attack, out damages the Sword of Ruin immensely, and with other weapons you can have other skills (Heals, other attacks, etc). My Metal weapon will have me doing about 600+ with Asteroid strike, while Sword of Ruin does....... 300-350 plus taking away half my health on each use. Recap: Sword of Ruin, 143 attack, only able to use one weapon/gear skill, and it practically kills you. You could not do a perfect clear with this weapon, unless you found three people to carry you while you only auto attack. Which would be very unlikely. You are going to need some type of heal along with items. My tips for the legendary event, perfect clear? Before starting make sure everyone has at least 280 defense, if they don't leave. Make sure you have at least two semi supportive teammates, as you're going to need heals for the very end of the quest, and desire actual defensive buffs (second phase of the boss goes into a incredibly powerful rage and does a certain skill whenever he reaches thresholds towards the end). Spam the chat about using or having items, everyone using and healing item helps immensely. Unless you're level 85-90 secondary vocation (not sure if that's really possible right now with pseudo-limited metal quests keys) I believe it would take 10x the amount of tries. The whole event is quite easy... it's just the last two life bars of the second phase of the final boss hit incredibly hard to everyone. If you don't heal up immediately someone will end up dying. With as little spoiler info as possible, approximately how far through DQXI am I? Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:33 AM PST I've gotten past the time skip where the world goes into darkness, thaats much I remember, although after joining forces with the Knight who was your enemy (Blanking on his name) I then took a break of maybe a year so some details may be hazy as the next bits were done in chunk of a couple hours across months. I went up the sacred mountain and rescued Rab, How much of the game do I still have left? am I at like 60%? 70, 90? (I assume the time skip was about 50%) Some of what I wrote may be necessary but I'm not sure how linear this part of the game is, it feel like it may be open, like maybe I could have skipped drab by accident?, dunno, anyway that's why I gave so much info. Question about difficulty (XI) Posted: 04 Mar 2020 05:15 AM PST Hey, I've been playing XI on that Super Strong Enemies setting. However I've reached a point where it just destroys me. I've made it to the Slayer of the Sands, and that guy is beating my face in with critical hits and confusion status. I crafted, bought and (maybe) found all the best equipment available, and turned a decent amount of it into +2 and +3, but not all of it due to limited pearls. At this point it's not really... fun? I use statuses (I'm used to jrpgs) to my advantage, Erich's sleep attack keeps getting fucked by Sylvando, and when RNGsus forsakes me a character straight up dies to a crit and sometimes the 2nd hit. Grinding super strong enemies aren't too exciting either. I'm level 15/15/14/14 right now and are considering just turning strong enemies of. But I've heard it's way too much of a breeze that way. So I guess I wonder, will all of "hard mode" be stopping every 1-2 hours to grind mobs - rest - pray for +3 equipment, and then die to crits? Or is the power curve in this game just very punishing in the beginning? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Any difference between the post game of XI and XI S for the Switch? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:25 PM PST So I beat Mordegon last night on my Switch and am ready to jump into the post-game, however I heard that S has some special stuff outside the original version like extra scenes with Jasper. However whenever I try to look a list up, all I can find is post game guides of the original game. Is there a lot of differences between the two and if there is, can someone link me to a good summary for the S version specifically? [link] [comments]

Dragon quest 5: How to Recruit Healslime? Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:13 PM PST Hey guys! I have recently gotten into this series through dragon quest 11, and I decided to play them all in order and completing some of the bigger milestones and such before moving onto each successive entry. Dragon quest 1 to 4 were a great time, but now I'm a little stuck on 5. I'm trying to recruit a heal slime at abovitall tower, but I've killed quite a few in the tower with no avail. Can I recruit in towers and dungeons and such? Is there a location to find one on the world map that I should wait for? I'm not sure how I should approach this. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
