This’ll be my second Dragon Quest game, but probably my first to beat

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 08:28 PM PDT

After playing and completing all the Dragon Quest games, i've decided to make a ranking of the imo most stand out games in the series!

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 04:48 AM PDT

I've played all the mainline games from I to XI and i have to say they're all fantastic games and i'm impresed how Yuji Hori manages to spice things up with some entries without changing the turn based formula.
Note: The ranking isn't about which game i like better, it's a ranking made in which games in the series stand out more.

X: It's a MMO, that atomatically makes it the most diferent main game i suposse.

V: This is probably one of the most unique/diferent main games in the series, the whole generation thing it's pretty unique and i have never seen it in other JRPGs....i think Tales of Graces was the other one that did something similar but this game came out like a decade after V.
The story was also pretty dark for the usual DQ game also it was the first game in the series to introduce monster taming and your family was a big plot point.

VII: This game is tied with V as the 2nd most diferent in the main series imo, there's not any monsters in the first hours and you don't eally go to other places with a ship or just walking like the other games, you have to find fragments to go to the past and restore the islands to make them apparear in the present, that's also really unique honestly.

VI: At first glance looks like a typical Dragon Quest game, but when you play it and go some hours into it you start to notice how much of a diferent experiencie it is from the traditional games, the whole 2 worlds gimmick it's really interesting since you have the dream world and the real world sometimes the story can be a bit confusing since you'll have to double check a location two times since they hardly ever specify in what realm it is so this game really encourages adventure and exploring moreso than DQ2 i'd say.

IX: Like X this game is mainly focused in multiplayer and it was also the first game in the series to have custom characters, this alone makes it one of the most diferent games in the series however i'd say the whole celestrian thing also makes it pretty unique i have never really seen another JRPG where you're an angel that lost it's halo/wings that has a faishon crazed fairy as a companion...., so it deserves 4th place i think.

I: Yes, the original it's 5th place to me as the most unique game...the fact that you only have one party member and most the battles are 1v1 makes it pretty unique in the series, pretty interesting since it the game that started it all.

IV: The whole chapter system is something i have never seen before IV came out and back in the NES era it was pretty interesting to have a game that detailed your companions backgrounds before joinin your party, Chapter 5 is however a normal Dragon Quest game, probably why i place it 6th.

VIII: This is probably my favourite Dragon Quest game and it's also probably one of the most traditional games in the series, it introduced some new stuff to the series like tension, alchemy or skill point system that probably makes it more diferent than III, XI and II, however i feel the game still manages to be a pretty traditional DQ which is impresive since it was the first 3D DQ, i rank it 7th in the ranking.

III: The whole class system makes it really stand out from other DQ games, however i feel like it's story. characters and plot points being used in other games as homenage makes the game lose a bit of standing out, but it's still up there i rank it 8th in the ranking.

XI: This game is beautiful but i also consider it to be the most traditional game in the DQ series, since the whole game is a trowback to SNES JRPGs in general

II: It introduced the party system, but the whole game is pretty normal DQ game, nothing really stands out about it other than it's dificulty, so it ranks as the least unique DQ game.

Is the Hero bad in DQIII?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 03:19 AM PDT

I just started DQIII and my Hero keeps dying over and over again. I always heal him with my priest and it doesn't make a difference. The personality is show off and he is level 9 (lower than all my other party members). The HP is 45, defense is 26 and resilience is 23.

Is their anything I'm doing wrong? My Hero is male so it can't learn certain personalities (correct me if I am wrong).

I need tips pls, it's driving me nuts whenever I want to grind or even progress in the game.

Has anyone done a "White Mage" Challenge in Dragon Quest?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 07:47 AM PDT

I remember some years ago I found out that in Final Fantasy, my favorite franchise, many people play some of the games with a self imposed challenge, a White Mage Challenge.
You pretty much use only White Mages during the entire game and see if you can beat it. Of course, for that the game needs to allow you to choose classes, like FFI, FFII, FFIII, FXII (the Zodiac Version) and perhaps a few spinoffs, such as FF Tactics.

So, as the title says, Has anyone done a "White Mage" Challenge in Dragon Quest?

Of course, in Dragon Quest we don't have White Mages but we have Priests or depending on the game other classes that also fit into the role, like Druids.
Also, I'm not as well versed in Dragon Quest as in Final Fantasy but to my knowledge, you can choose classes in DQIII, DQVI, DVII, DQIX.

In the case that healing only classes may be too hard, maybe a mix of spellcasters only.

I'd love to hear people's opinions on this. I for one am yet to plat DQIII and DQVI, so maybe I could try it, depending on the experience of the veterans.

    Best Dragon Quest for iPhone..?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 12:51 AM PDT

    Hey!

So I'll start by saying that I recently rediscovered my 10+ year old NDSi and a dragon quest ix game that I got exactly 10 years ago! I loved everything about this game; the story, the characters etc.

Now I fell back in love and I want a DQ for my iPhone but some are pretty pricey so I want to make the right choice. What do you all recommend?

    Thank you!

How does this game compare to Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 05:20 PM PDT

Just bought the game (DQX1), played JRPG's since I was a kid.

I loved Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, BBS and CoM, didn't like 3 at all.

Final Fantasy can be a hit or miss for me. But gonna say FF7R is the best game I have played in my life, didn't like FFXV.

    How does DQ compare?

Just bought DQXI - does the game have any elements of platforming?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 08:26 PM PDT

I know it probably won't, but I mean platforming similar to the original Kingdom Hearts 1, a little bit of flavour.

Final fantasy usually outside of combat is very simple movement, no jumping etc..

Does it have some form of platforming?

    DQXI: Dual-wielding wands.

Does this only increase physical attack or does it double magical might and mending?

It was emotional watching (the end)and finishing that great great story. . I think I did well with the record of 43 hours, the Final boss with second try took me godamn 13 minutes to beat. Anyway. I'm going all the way to the next one which I decided to go with 4 because I like the concept with the chapters. Do you have any tips and tricks to tell before I start play dragon quest 4??

How should I play the original trilogy?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 11:05 AM PDT

How should I play the original trilogy? I have all three on my NES Classic. Is the Switch port worth it? What are the merits of each?

Best way to get a few thousand casino tokens to start? [DQ11]

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 12:39 PM PDT

I just got to the casino and I want some of the gear there but all the farming methods I've seen require you to start with at least a few thousand and I don't have a lot of gold so the 1 token slot machines are a pain in the ass to play. Is there a quest or something that gives you some tokens as a reward?

    Choices matter

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 12:02 PM PDT

So I played trough XI's story a second time and while I told Michelle (the Mermaid) the truth about Kai in my first run (because I didn't think it would make a difference), I kinda accidentally lied to her in my second run. I don't know if the scenario is exclusively for the Switch Version, but damn, that really surprised me how much my decision made a difference. While telling her the truth results in a lil (but sad) sequence where you get a lot more information about those two and their background, lying to her just prolongs her suffering and there's not much more about her afterwards.

Scenario if you dont lie to her.

DQ11, just got 6th and 7th party members

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 11:55 AM PDT

Both the new party members are much higher level than any of my characters. Erik is 17, the girls are 18 and Hero and Sylvando are 19, but the new members are 23, should I be grinding more? There wasn't a level disparity between new and old party members before for me, and I was just wondering if Im underleveled. Thanks!
