I definitely wanted to know why no one is interested in this manga? They only translated 4 chapters of it and stopped, the story is very good, I hope someone will translate one day.

    Dragon Warrior Monsters 1 Review

My original script had about 23 differences and I ended up cutting it down because the video was 40 minutes long. I think when I continue it with my next review "Dragon Quest Monsters 1" I'll add more, and then when I get around to the second game Ill add the remaining differences

Dragon Quest III Solo Challenge - Part 5 "Boss Time!"

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:16 AM PST

In the last part I received the ship, collected the blue and the red orb and escorted a merchant to the immigrant town in order to set up events for the yellow orb. We also got the ultimate key.

    Battle against Orochi

Now that Rocky has the ultimate key, he first picks up the green orb from Theddon. Now we have only two orbs missing - the purple one and the silver one - and that means there is no way around fighting Orochi in the cave near Jipang.

Thankfully, Rocky learned Fullheal a while ago, otherwise this wouldn't have been possible. I also put the Mask of Implacability into my equipment so that I could switch into it mid-battle to try it out. This would boost my defence from 100 something to 400 something ... clearly the fire-breathing serpent wouldn't be able to scratch me anymore, right?

Wrong. I don't know why but there was hardly any difference in damage output on Orochi's part. I'm talking about physical attacks here, not fire breath. The damage calculation in this game is absolute jank, I feel betrayed. The good news is that Rocky could still use spells and items in the battle despite being confused. He only refuses to do it outside of combat.

So after chasing Orochi back to Jipang and finishing her off for good, Rocky gets the purple orb and leaves to remove that annoying mask. However, removing a cursed item doesn't just unequip it in this game as it does in DQ9, it destroys the item.

So I basically wasted my Mask of Implacability. No matter, I think, that thing was garbage anyway. False advertisement. It didn't protect sh*t.

    Battle against Boss Troll

This one is very intriguing. After exploring the teleportal shrines littered throughout Not-Earth, Rocky eventually winds up in Manoza where a tyrant keeps tormenting the people. In order to expose the king as a fake, our hero enters the southeastern cave to retrieve Ra's Mirror. The dungeon is a thorn in my belly because the voodoogooders keep draining my MP to 0. I also suffered two defeats in here: Once to a mimic's Thwack, once to a skeleton swordsman after being put to sleep by the wyrtles. But I still get a lot of valuable stuff, including the mirror.

The fight against the impostor is interesting because I used a bug that I discovered only minutes prior: Every time Rocky switches his weapon and attacks with it in the same turn, his status will have reset. This bug basically saved his life because the boss troll kept using Kasap to lower his defence. Being an already heavy hitter, this would've been it but switching weapons removed the debuff. I imagine this must be due to some programming error: Since changing equipment changes stats, the game has to run a calculation every time I do it and it overwrites any debuffs while doing so. I fail to understand why I also have to attack with the weapon though, this is really weird.

So Rocky gets the mod rod, buys a prayer ring in the elven village and then hands the rod over to an old man in Not-Greenland who most definitely doesn't have any lewd intentions concerning the item. And with the lover's locket in the ghost ship, Olivia is put to rest and I can finally enter the Necrogond, the most disgusting place so far.

    Awakening of the Everbird

The dungeon leading up to the silver orb is pretty hard, mostly due to one monster: The armful. This godforsaken abomination can attack twice per turn and likes to use the burning breath which can very well paralyze me ... and paralysis, as you may remember, means insta-death.

And yet - perhaps because I went through this dungeon many times before so I know the shortest route - I can weasel my way through and acquire the silver orb, but not without picking up the spiked armour and the thunderbolt blade along the way. It is ironically during the grinding session where I get killed here, twice by the armful (for the prophecised reason) and once by a troll after two minidemons were unexpectedly quicker than me and set me up for the kill.

Ramia awakens at last and after hitting level 38, I decide to snoop around in Baramos's Lair already. The living statues can really tank hits and after almost every battle I need to heal but the encounter rate is surprisingly low. The dungeon itself is also somewhat short, it's a delight. Rocky quickly stands before Baramos and decides to ... just do it. Let's test the waters, why not.

    Battle against the Archfiend Baramos

The first battle is absolutely futile. Since the NES version, Baramos's HP have been increased from 900 to a whopping 3000! To make things worse, he has a passive healing ability that restores 80-110 HP inbetween turns. This is the reason why the first battle is pointless: I forgot to put Orochi's Sword into my equipment so I can't lower his defence. I only deal like 70 something damage.

I challenge Baramos again after hitting level 40. This time I bring everything I need and my tactic went so: First Rocky wears the magic shield and armour to reduce incoming magic damage while trying to seal the demon's magic with the Antimagic Staff. After Baramos is forced to switch to physical attacks, Rocky equips the spiked armor and the dragon shield and starts using Orochi's Sword to cut the fiend's defence down to a crippling 3 points. Then he starts slaying.

But ... it doesn't work. Rocky deals around 100 damage per attack and the spiked armour adds around 20-30 more but that's it. I often have to Fullheal instead of attacking (roughly every 3 turns) so even if we assume that Baramos regenerates always only 80 HP and always hurts himself on the spikes of my armour, this would be 130+130+30 (=290) damage minus 240 (=50) every 3 turns. 3000 divided by 50 is 60, multiplied by 3 it's 180. I WOULD NEED 180 TURNS AT THIS PACE!

I-I'm sorry ... I can't do it. I must concede. Baramos, thou hast bested me, good job. The run is over. Jesus Christ, I doubt I could make this even with the Mask of Implacability.

    Roto/Erdrick in the anime adaptations

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 09:29 PM PST

So a while back, I remember seeing a bit from an older anime where a character that looked almost exactly like Roto/Erdrick showed up and acted like a smug bastard. I'm just trying to figure out what anime it was.

    Tips for DQ11

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 02:42 AM PST

    Hi all!

Just playing the demo on Xbox and it's really good. I'm also mindful it comes to Xbox Game Pass next week and is probably going to be very popular there for sure. With the release of the new consoles, the uptake of Game Pass and the Xbox being a western RPG machine, having a JPRPG on here is going to be very cool.

That being said, for those that have played the game start to finish, are there any tips you'd recommend, things to look out for and things to keep in mind for new players to the series?

    Thanks!!

Should I get DQ11 for Switch? I finished it on PS4 last year

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 10:26 PM PST

What the title says really, I loved 11 and finished it on PS4. Was my first dragon quest and can't believe how great it felt. I'm a massive rpg fan (ff, fire emblem etc) Just wondering if there's anything missing, is there more content and is it worth buying again? I recently got a switch few weeks ago and I'm on the fence whether to buy it or buy other games I'm yet to play. (Unrelated but it's a crime persona isn't on switch)

I just beat DQ4 should I start playing DQ7 next?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 04:55 PM PST

    Sorry for the long post but here goes;

My friend who introduced me to DQ did a really good job linking us together because I ADORE the series. I have played DQ 1 to 3 and then 11 last year and this year I just started with 4 which I just beat. I loved every single one of them so much.

I bought DQ 7 on the 3DS and i'm really considering playing it next because I still didn't quite scratch that itch even after beating DQ4. My friend recommends that I play something else preferably not JRPG to avoid burnout but i'm thinking I just wanna jump again. So what would you guys say?

I gotta admit I hate the feeling of burnout but I really love these games.

Side note: if you're wondering why the jump from DQ4 to DQ7 it's because both DQ 5 and 6 cost an arm and a leg for the DS and even though i'm saving up for them I went ahead and bought DQ 7 for the 3DS because sale.

And please don't suggest emulation because it's high time we respect the developer of these gorgeous games.
