Classic RPG like Dragon Quest (I+II) and Final Fantasy with new 3D gameplay experience

Hmmm Red from 8 or Aishe from 7... Who's the deadliest (and do they shop in the same clothes shop)

Dai no Daibouken Volume 1 (OG on the left, 2020 'Perfect' version on the right)

Finishing DQ11 left a void, never played any other titles before so here’s hoping 8 is as great as people say. 3DS graphics could be better but I’ve heard it’s the only way to really play this title.

Finally picked up XI today during my lunch break. I am very pleased to unite it with its siblings.

How do I get back to the "sages in the pages" book?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 09:40 AM PST

So I am at the point where i can call back the realm of the mighty by speaking to Celestia. What is the way to the books from the start?

Just caught up with the 2020 anime and i have to say, as someone who watched the original anime and read the manga (as well as being a big DQ fan) - I love it!

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 09:34 AM PST

Late to the party i know! I just rewatched episode 9 twice and I love the new series! The animation and art style is just so great. I'm really happy that they didn't change the looks or try to do much to the base art style over all. It is so nostalgic!

I sincerely hope it follows the manga all the way through, because the series is awesome and I'd love to see the last arc animated!

I love the music as well, though I can't go comparing it to the original as I had watched it in Arabic dub (shout out to anyone who watched it on Space Toons lol)

I am really impressed and cannot wait to watch the series!

Dragon Quest III Solo Challenge - Part 4 "Oh no! Anyway ..."

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 03:27 AM PST

In the last part we wiped the floor with Robbin' 'Ood, got a magic key and set out to Not-Asia in order to get some black pepper for the king in Portoga.

    You again?

The journey to the east is far les treacherous than I anticipated. Staying alive is a trivial matter at this point in the game. It seems that the only major difficulty spike so far was between Aliahan and Not-Europe. The change of scenery from Not-Europe to Not-Asia is, by comparison, much more forgiving. After reaching Baharata and gleefully upgrading his equipment, Rocky has to make the choice to either save a man named Gupta from certain demise or to explore the rest of Not-Asia.

Obviously, he does the latter. There is the Tower of Transcendence north of Alltrades Abbey which is easily completed (but without a reward Rocky could use) as well as the village of Mur further to the northeast which holds a mighty helmet that is invaluable for him. Unfortunately, the game doesn't like that last part so it throws in these adorable buddies into our path and they absolutely DESTROY Rocky with their insane defence, their insane numbers and insane offensive magic.

Fine, maybe it's time to rescue that foolish young man who ran off to save his kidnapped girlfriend. The weirdly-structured hideout contains two mimics that end me without mercy but such is the price of robbing bandits, amiright? Indeed, here we meet Robbin' 'Ood again and his lackeys know Kasap now! The fight ensues and I suffer from the debuff right at the very start which means winning anyway because I can outheal Robbin' 'Oods damage.

So with that outta the way we finally receive our ship and the true journey begins ...

    Around the World

South, south, south we go ... the rivers allow us to make a stop at Theddon, the city closest to where Baramos dwells. As a result, it has been reduced to rubble and corpses but the spirits of the dead still linger during the night. One of the six orbs is here but we need the ultimate key to get it. Rocky leaves and sets sails for Jipang but we don't challenge the boss yet. Don't mind me, Orochi, I'm just here to get the Mask of Implacability! Smell you later!

The monsters on the open sea are just as harmless as in Not-India so we can use this to our advantage and access Mur by ship, thereby skipping the larger landmass. Interestingly, the devs expected this to happen: There is an old man here who will mock us if we claim to have come by foot whereas he will congratulate us for our wit if we do it by ship instead. The more you know.

The first order of business is finding the ultimate key. The village of Lanson is located in Not-Australia and they sell "Fading Jenny" which allows us to enter Edina in Not-Britain. The bottomless pot (and I don't remember how anyone is supposed to figure this out on their own) must be brought to a reef between Not-Siberia and Not-North America where the ultimate key is located.

    Oh no! Anyway ...

Back in Lanson, Rocky can finally enter the local shrine and take on a dangerous challenge: He must descend Gaia's Navel and traverse a dungeon ... but without his allies! Oh no, the humanity!

Needless to say that the dungeon is as easy as it gets, that's why I chose this one first. Rocky does get tricked by a mimic and is forced into a battle but interestingly the fiend wastes its time on Thwack and draining MP so it's actually easier defeated than the cannibox ... odd. The blue orb is quickly found, as is this armor with the cool artwork.

In Not-South America there is a band of dudebro pirates who are were in the possession of the red orb hidden under a very unsuspicious rock in their backyard. And in Not-North America there is immigrant town which requires a merchant to get into shape. So I create "Chiffron" and escort him across the sea (he gets one-hit KO'd twice) and that's the yellow orb for you.

This part has been pure progress. If I can keep this going, we'll be able to enter the Necrogond at the end of Part 5 and enter the most heinous dungeon in this game!

Total number of deaths so far: 23

Current level as of writing: 28

What's your favorite and least favorite main DQ? And why?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST

Curious to hear what reasons people have for the various games.

Can't really comment myself, only finished IX so far years ago and am currently playing XI.

I'm a big fan of Dragon Quest but never played XI, so I opened it up in this video I made and had a little recap of the series from games in the past. Check it out.

I always thought that orichalcum was orichalum my whole life until just recently when Erik in Dragonquest11 started calling it orichalcum. I was completely surprised when I heard him call it that because I always read it as orichalum. Am I the only one that thought it was orichalum?

Does anyone have a DQIV save file that's at the beginning of chapter 5?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 09:32 PM PST

I don't know if it's possible to swap saves for this game, but my mobile version crashed and erased all my progress. I can just emulate a DS version's save if that works. Thanks!

DQXIS: Game Pass PC Saves Between Steam?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:15 PM PST

Any way of knowing if I could transfer my saves between the Game Pass PC version and Steam version? I planned on starting it on Game Pass first and then buying it on Steam later.
