Dragon Quest Small Dragon Quest themed preview. I think I'll make some changes on what should be the central gem but all in all, I'm happy with the result.

Completed my first ever DQ game and it made me feel nostalgic.

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 07:08 AM PST

I've just finished my first ever dragon quest game ever. Even tho I had a NES back in the day I never got around to playing these games. I usually stuck with mario. To be fair I never even played a lot of JRPG games. 1st gen Pokémon (if that counts) was the only one and I've played a bit of Xenoblade chronicles DE on switch and that's about it. I never even touched the final fantasy series, well I've tried 7 and 9 but couldn't get into it. I did however play a lot of western RPG games like baldurs gate, wasteland, vampire the masquerade redemption, pillars of eternity to name a few.

Well I recently had to upgrade my phone as the battery was dying and I had to recharge after leaving it on standby for half a day (it was an oldie). Combine that with the fact I watched "high score" on Netflix and the fact I googled for easy to play gun games on Android and Dragon Quest popped up.

And man, what a trip it's been. I played this game for 2 days straight. Because of covid I got a lot of free time at work. So I played at work, after work and today on my day off. I traveled the map from town to town and talked to everyone slowly uncovering where to go. I took screenshots of every piece of info an NPC shared that might be important and puzzled the pieces together. The game is pretty straightforward and grindy but fairly addictive. But the fact that your slowly uncovering where to go next was amazing to piece together.

And one point I was an idiot and forgot about the flute, thus I was grinding to beat the golem guarding the southern town of Mercado. I didn't even went to the eastern island yet but figured I needed to level up for it and ended up grinding to level 20 making the rest of the game a breeze until the final castle.

Like I said I beat the game today and I can't wait to start dragon quest ii. It might seem odd but I like the older games. Today we are being bombarded by mediocre games or have extremely high standards for new releases in case of graphics, story, quality of life aspects etc. At least I have, so I tend to forget what a game really should be about and that's having fun! I've been gaming since the early 90's and i remember being excited for new innovative games like Doom, Tomb Raider, Driver, diablo, Zelda OoT to name a few. Nowadays I'm too caught up at work and have more responsibilities and less time to play video games.

So when a gem like this comes by (by accident and coincidence) and I never played it before, it kind of takes me back to when I was young and had no worries and all the time in the world. To me that's priceless and I feel grateful, can't wait to play some of the later games in this series! I'm not sure if I'm going to play all of them or in order, but I am going to try to do exactly that. In case I can't I would like to know what everyone's favourite is and why so I can make a selection.

Thanks for listen to me ramble on about the good ole days and sorry if there are any spelling and grammar errors as I'm not a native English speaker. Also thanks for this awesome subreddit, I browsed through it and there's next to no toxicity in here :)

TL;dr: Just completed Dragon Quest I, which is my first ever Dragon Quest game ever! Made me feel nostalgic and can't wait to play some of the later games. For now I'm going straight to playing Dragon Quest II.

    TL;dr: TL;dr: DQ1 = 👌

Is Slime Knight the knight or the slime?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 06:40 PM PST

Basically title. I'm not sure as to which one is the actual slime knight. Some games say its the knight, and some say its the slime. Some games even say that they are different people, with a bond so strong that killing one makes the other drop dead. So which one is it really? I am legitimately confused.

Do the cursed orbs affect Psaro?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 10:15 AM PST

I don't remember trying in Dragon Quest Heroes. But in DQIV he can equip any of the cursed gear. If you equip him with a cursed orb does the curse affect him in DQH2?

    Dragon quest 2 iOS Tombola

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 01:08 AM PST

I have been trying and trying to get anything from the tombola tickets, on iOS the slots move too quick to see what's happening, is there a way to get these items? Or is it up to chance? I know with the switch version it moves slow enough, if someone could help me understand?

    How does dq11 look handheld?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 08:39 AM PST

I really wanna start it up but its a lot more comfortable to play games on my couch than in my room. How does the game look handheld? Is its super bad and blurry like xenoblade? I just want a good jrpg to play on my couch.

[Mini Rant] DQV has one of the most annoying starts so far

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 04:26 PM PST

So I have gotten through I-IV and have just started playing V and my freaking god...what a painful start. The ghost tower was so unnecessarily annoying. Its just grind. Grind grind grind. Can't grind in the castle easily because there aren't a lot of fights, and when you do get a fight its 5 monsters that just punish you. Then you rest and you're booted out of the tower every single time. Monsters outside give trash experience and trash gold and the boss hits like a truck. The tower itself is awesome, I love it...but dear god what a painful start...but hey I got through it.

But then there is the freakin sabrecat. I cannot stand having party members I can't control but its somewhat of a thing in DQ so not a big deal. But then there is sabrecat. You think you can control him but nope! Whats that? Use an herb? Nah I'll defend leading to someone dying. Oh attack this guy? Nahhh I'll attack this guy instead...or actually you know what? Defend.

I really want to like the game and I am trying to push through as I am sure it gets better but holy shit this is the first time I have just wanted to put the game down and just not play it. Its frustrating for frustrations sake. It adds nothing to the game except to annoy the hell out of you. Even the last area in I think its II that wasn't tested and amps up the difficulty wasn't as frustrating as this because this is the beginning of the damn game!

Anyways, rant over. I choose not to use walkthroughs or guides, not how I enjoy playing and maybe I am missing something because of that but good lord it has not been an enjoyable experience thus far. I need a hug lololol

Help setting up multiplayer in DQ Builder 2, please

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 02:45 PM PST

    Hi all,

I finished Furrowfield and returned to the Isle of Awakening. I did a few quests and the Hairy Hermit had me go to the portal for multiplayer. I chose my ID. I'm on PS5 and have PS+.

My kid finished Furrowfield, went back to the Isle, did a FEW quests and went to the portal where she chose her ID. Hairy did NOT tell her to go the portal yet, but she still could activate it. She's on the Switch with Nintendo Online activated.

When either of us tries to join via Net or locally, we don't see any games to join.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    TIA .

    Hero - Level 35 Sage - Level 29 Warrior - Level 30 Thief - Level 20

I'd imagine that I still need to do a bit of grinding with the Thief, but is this party considered ready yet?
