I was told by this subreddit to play the Switch version. Only made me want to beat the NES more

Hero released as a playable character for SSBU today 2 years ago

Years ago, I tried DQ8 and hated it; fast-forward a decade later on the 3DS...

And I'm having a real good time! I'm surprised by how much the 2x battle speed actually improve the game, it makes the game's pacing a hella more acceptable.

Now, the game would be even better if your could walk 1.2-1.5x faster (especially on the overworld), and if you could break pots/barrels in a fraction of a seconds instead of this baffingly longwinded animation. But hey, this is Dragon Quest after all, they will only add a few QoL improvements on each successive version!

    Dragon Warrior 3 tips?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:03 AM PDT

I beat the first two games on the NES, and I'm starting the third. Any tips I should keep in mind from a veteran? I know there's multiple classes/parties, I'm thinking I should go with the party that I can start with. I just got 3 additional party members in a bar.

How much should I be grinding? Is it like how I played the first two, grind to buy all the new weapons and armor, move to the next town, repeat?

Should I buy the first 3 DQ Games on Switch?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 12:52 PM PDT

Hello, I'm new to Dragon Quest as I practically just beat DQ11 and I liked it a lot.

However, as a high schooler, I unfortunately do not have the income to afford the likes of DQ VII AND DQ VII on the 3DS which highly interest me. But, I recently found on Amazon the first three DQ games bundled into 1 Cart (From PlayAsia I'm pretty sure) Being interested in DQ in general, I'm wondering if I should pick it up?

Please let me know your opinions on this and it is well appreciated from all of you.

Does anyone know why the physical copy so expensive and hard to find in Canada?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 06:10 PM PDT

You can buy the digital copy for $64.99 but the why are the physical copys selling for around $80? I know EB games sells the physical copy for $64.99 but you can only collect it in store and the only places that sell them seem to be 3 stores in Ontario.

Dragon Quest VI final battle doable without the Hero class? (SNES version)

    Posted: 30 Jul 2021 04:32 PM PDT

I've gotten up to the final boss fight in DQ6 but have completely stalled out on the final boss fight, which seems like a massive and kind of unreasonable spike in difficulty. I can manage to get through the first phase, but the second phase seems utterly insane. His occasional triple-attack turns and multiple-target attacks can kill 3/4 of my party in a single round, and the buff spells he stacks make him almost completely undamageable outside of spells, which isn't a viable way of fighting him given that my casters die even faster than my physical attackers and have to stay on top of healing.

Looking up guides, most people recommend using the Hero class and its skill that removes enemy buffs. However, there's no way you could ever get the Hero class without an obscene amount of grinding; even at this point in the game I would have to do something like five hundred more battles to get that skill. Absolutely nothing in the game has required any kind of grinding so far, I haven't had any real difficulty with anything up until this point, and I'd like to believe the game had some thought put into its design and that strategy should be more viable than grinding - so what other options are there for overcoming Deathtamoor phase 2's strong physical attacks and defensive buff spells?

Again, I'm on the SNES version, not the DS version, which sounds like it was rebalanced (I've seen people say magical attacks like Wind Slash are good ways for physical classes to get good hits in on Deathtamoor, though in the SNES version they're completely useless).
