    Come play DQ11, we've got;

DQ8: Angelo is Best with Swords. Bow's Did Not Impress.

DQ8: Angelo is Best with Swords. Bow's Did Not Impress.

Played the game to level 50+ so far, and this is what I have concluded regarding Angelo's Sword versus Bow skills.

Sword Skills are awesome, on par with The Hero's. Bow skills are lackluster, would rather be using a sword.

I started with Swords and got Swords to 100. Angelo's Sword techniques are just as powerful as the Hero's. Once Hero and Angelo obtained the Falcon Blade from Baccarat casino they became DPS machines. I also upgraded them both to Ãœber falcon blade making them even stronger. And because both Hero and Angelo have the same Sword skill trees (except slightly different ultimate techniques), they both get Falcon Slash, which makes the Ãœber falcon blades strike four times in a row. They are dealing between 200-260 dmg to a monster, meaning most monsters die in one attack. Even if I unequip Ãœber falcon blade and equip Angelo with his ultimate class specific sword, The Shamshir of Light, and attack with Falcon Slash, Angelo deals around 160-200 damage (since it only attacks twice), which is still very good damage. And if for some reason I feel the need to use an AoE attack, and decide to use Angelo's ultimate sword technique, Lightning Storm, it deals around 200 dmg to every monster on the screen, usually clearing the entire screen. Very similar in damage to the Hero's ultimate sword technique, but arguably better since Angelo's hits All monsters, but the Hero's only hits the monsters in one group.

So I decided to try Bow out and compare. I maxing it out and crafted the ultimate bow, Odin's Bow, which in it's description says it deals devastating damage.

Comparison of attacks against a Tyrantosaurus

    1. basic attack a Tyrantosaurus

    Odin's Bow (base dmg +125): 140 dmg

Shamshir of Light (base dmg +110): 125 dmg

Ãœber falcon blade (base dmg +55): 146 dmg

    1. use weapons most powerful single target skill against Tyrantosaurus

    Odin's Bow (Seraph's Arrow): 135 dmg

Shamshir of Light (Falcon Slash): 195 dmg

Ãœber falcon blade (Falcon Slash): 230 dmg

Basic attacks are fairly similar but basic attacks are hardly ever used, so I just ignore that data. The meaningful data are from the skills. Clearly, Ãœber falcon blade is far superior.

Now, what about AoE attacks? The thing is, if I feel the need to use one, there are a bunch of them at my disposal that deal devastating dmg to groups of monsters or all monsters on the screen. And the ones that deal the least damage are the Bow skills. Both Angelo's and the Hero's ultimate sword techniques deal hundreds of dmg to every monster on the screen, and Jessica has spells like Kaboom that do the same thing. So those are the skills I would use to clear a screen, not the weaker Bow skills. Angelo's bow AoE skills, Shining Shot and Multishot, deal low damage in comparison. When spread among multiple monsters they deal around 70 dmg to each. Why would I ever even use that? If I wanna clear them immediately I would use Kaboom, Lightning Storm, Gigagash, Kazap, etc. Because they all deal 150+ dmg to each Monster. And if it's just a bunch of trash mobs with low health I'll just hit them with Jessica's Gringham Whip. Also, I should mention Angelo's ultimate bow skill, Needle Rain. It's terrible. It shoots 4 or 5 arrows that deal one dmg each and have a small chance to instantly kill their target. Talk about a junk ultimate, almost never works, and lots of late game monsters are immune... and one last thing. Multishot does excellent dmg to a single target but it sadly isn't a single target skill because it shoots 4 arrows that randomly seek out monsters on the screen, arguably it could be better against some high health Boss that is alone on the screen, but the trouble is for the majority of the game you are fighting random groups of mobs, and many bosses have buddies, so it usually ends up dealing 60-70 dmg per monster, which is ineffective. If you could choose where all the arrows went then it would out DPS Swords on single target, but you can't so it just doesn't work in the normal flow of the game.

Lastly, if your main argument for using a Bow is Seraph's arrow, to get back Magic Points, it takes 66 skill points invested into Bow. Yet, for a measly 12 skill points you can get that same MP drain from the Staff Skill Tree. And Staff actually has some nice skills you might use like Bounce, Caduseus, and Oomph.

So to me, Angelo kicks butt as a swordsman, but not with a bow.

Do you think shoji Meguro could do Dragon Quest 12 OST?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 08:42 AM PDT

If you don't know he is made the OST of Persona 3 , 4 and 5 and some Shin Megami Tensei games, he work for did work exclusively for atlus but now he is a freelancer which means that Square Enix could contact him to do the Dragon Quest 12 OST, considering the fact that DQ 12 will take a different direction from the other DQ games.

In my opinion Kenji Ito would also be a good choice.

"Where's the city? I just visited it!"

Spoiler, but something absolutely hilarious with the Wizz's spell. And a question.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 10:00 AM PDT

So, the Wizz guy and his Great Leveller that he created? I learnt it in the present by just reading his gravestone. So I thought, " Why not go back to the past after I got it?" I did, and it just absolutely bamboozled him. So I went back to the grave, and he made another spell, the Greater Leveller! That was so funny to me, I think thats it though, no Greatest Leveller or anything. Also kind of confirmed that just about everyone can use all spells, like Oomph, Kafrizzle and such. I had no idea. I have only played 8 and 11, and currently 7, will play the rest in due time.

One more thing, how do I get monster hearts, I have killed so many monsters that in the book says "Drops their heart", I wanted Healslime and Jawtoise, but got none from those 2. Only slimes and kingfishers have dropped hearts so far. Also how do Monster Vocations work exactly? Asking veterans or those who have played.

What enemies does the spell Poof work on?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2021 04:07 AM PDT

I'm currently in the post game and my MC has poof but every time I have tried it the monsters aren't affected. Can someone tell me a couple of monsters it works on?

    I just platinum’d 11s and I don’t think I will ever play a Dragon Quest again AMA

Jeez that was a task, did 99% of the game on Stronger Monsters only to drop it for the Timewyrm. I refuse to grind seeds or Pep Pops instead of grinding levels to beat a boss.

How hard is XI (with Super Strong Monsters enabled) compared to other Dragon Quest games?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2021 10:48 PM PDT

I'm just curious because I'm at least 10 hours in on a Strong Monsters playthrough and it's kicking my ass so much with just the group mob battles, and people say this brings XI's difficulty closer to previous games. Is the DQ series really that hard in general? No, I'm not asking this to vent because I'm struggling, I really am just curious.

Favourite Lp'er on Dragon Quest, genuinely loves the games, does voices for the characters and is an all around chill dude. This is currently Dragon Quest VI and is a random part in his let's play. If you like it check out the full play-through. :)
