- “... DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has been released and loved by international fans beyond seas and languages.” Look like Square sees this as a success! Much deserved!
- I recently discovered DQ and fell in love, so I splurged on all of the physical copies. I also discovered a very hoppy beverage called Puff Puff.

- I came all the way to the Sub Reddit in order to say that this spider was by far one of the most annoying fights I have had in any RPG I have played.

Dragon Quest XI: Grinding on Insula Occidentalis, better than Electro Light? Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:11 AM PST I am on the verge of reaching lvl 99 on DQ11, and I have used the Electro Light pep trick only once; I found it really underwhelming, especially given the immense amount of set up and preparation needed to use it even once. I am sharing here my grinding method, which I personally believe to be easier, cheaper, more rewarding and perhaps even faster than the pep trick. In Act 3, Insula Occidentalis (the tiny island next to The Strand) has three types of monsters: Orcs, bunnies and manticores. The manticores give 3.5k Exp, the orcs a bit over 2k, and even the bunnies give a respectable amount. The best part, however, is that this tiny island is packed with monsters, the monsters almost always come in groups of 5, and you can kill an entire group in one hit or two. Which means you can just put your hard-hitters who can attack all the monsters (my personal team is Hero, Erik, Veronica and Rab), put them all on "Show no mercy" mode, and then just let the game play itself while the experience pours in. You never risk dying against the weak monsters, and there is a free bed right there to restore your mana, so you can go full ham on the monsters every time to make the process faster. On average, a single fight will net you 8-12k experience and lasts less than 10 seconds. That means that, in a couple minutes of fighting these basic monsters, you get as much experience as a group of metal slimes including a king metal slime. Avoid the manticores (they tend to be alone) and go for the orcs every time they respawn, while mowing down the rabbits in the meantime. If you manage to kill every monster, sleep in the house and they'll all be back. For reference, yesterday, I leveled up my party from lvl 75 to 90 in 1h30 of grinding on Insula Occidentalis. I grinded some more in the car during my 15 minute commute to work this morning, and my hero is currently lvl 93. When I play another 15 minutes on the way home tonight, I'll definitely reach 95-96. I share this because I have never seen anyone mention this method. The usual advice is either to grind in the Trial of the Luminary (the experience is comparable, but monsters are much stronger, much farther apart from each other, and there is no easy healing spot) or to use the Electro Light trick (which takes forever to set up and costs a fortune in pep pips, without even taking into account the fact it can fail and the results are unreliable, which can require reloading a save until you get the desired results, all for a few hundred thousand experience points). Both require your full attention as a player and are very unreliable overall; my method is 100% reliable and can easily be used while watching a Youtube video or chatting with a friend, which is how I do it. Just keep mashing A without even looking at your game, and next time you bother to look at your screen, you gained two levels! [link] [comments]
Is Maribel the worst party member in the series? Posted: 19 Dec 2019 07:04 AM PST I'm currently about 10 hours into the 3ds DQ7, and I don't think I've ever been as annoyed by a party member as I am by Maribel. She's great in battle but in dialogue she's just such a hater. I know this is a crazy long game, and maybe she gets better at some point, but man she's just a wet blanket. I have yet to play 11, but in my memory of the rest of the series, I have yet to encounter a party member I was more annoyed by. [link] [comments]

I wrote a short essay about the original Dragon Quest for my Art History course Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:05 PM PST I'm majoring in History at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (a renowned Brazilian university). This semester I attended an Art History course and one of the requirements was to write a short (1000 to 2000 words) essay analyzing a single work of art. I decided to be a little bold and, instead of choosing a more traditional form of art, I wrote about the original Dragon Quest and how it was able to articulate trends of an already established genre (the electronic RPGs) in a new way, setting a new regional trend that persists to this day. The essay is written in Portuguese, and I don't think I really did the game justice. Notwithstanding, I'd like to share it with you guys. Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yKo0rCN0ZW4AVpRAWgmd5RBwTMoUGJs_QCsKr5AKw7k/edit?usp=sharing P.S.: By the way, I got a 90% (equivalent to an "A") with this essay. :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:37 PM PST I just beat dragon quest 5 for the first time and I have to say it was amazing! The story is beautiful and the combat is dynamic! There were a couple bosses i was suprised about. Like slon before ladja. Ladja wiped the floor with me the first time but after that it was all uphill! Just beat the game and was wondering if the extra estark dungeon is worth playing. In dragon quest 4 the extra dungeon added more story and even brought back a favorite character of mine!! I'm just wondering if it adds to the story and is worth playing. Otherwise I'll just move on to chrono trigger/dragon quest 6😂 [link] [comments]

Is playing DRAGON QUEST 1-3 recommended before playing DQ11S? Posted: 19 Dec 2019 01:39 AM PST
Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:27 PM PST So I'm playing through the DQ series for the first time, and I decided to do it in chronological order. I already beat the first and second games, and I made it to Portoga in the third before my save file was corrupted. I really don't feel like replaying it all again, so I'm probably just gonna skip to DQIV. But I know that the plot of III is important to XI, so can someone give me a quick summary of what I missed? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:50 PM PST Im new to DQ 11 and was wondering if I should give Erik a dagger, sword, or boomerang? [link] [comments] |
