rambling about my DQ experience so far! (long post)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:11 AM PST

** TL;DR i'm super new to the series!! hero being in ssbu and dqb2 sparked my interest and i'm very glad they did :) **

hi, i'm laying here absolutely tired and unable to sleep (it's like 11am, my sleep schedule is completely ruined) and i'm thinking about dragon quest SO i'm going to ramble about it here since i told all my friends i was going to bed over an hour ago!!

i'm really new to the series! like, very new. the trailers for dqxis + hero being added in smash really piqued my interest. (for some reason the way they revealed DQ3's protag in the hero's ssbu announcement trailer really got to me) my first DQ game was builders 2, absolutely fell in love with it. at first i was just all "haha anime minecraft!! it's not the first one but i wanna try it it looks cute!" and then things on the first island happend and i realized anime minecraft 2 goes in way deeper than i thought it could (i'm a very emotional person and i cried quite a bit through both playrthoughs this game lol). i've played through it twice and i've already been wanting a 3rd playthrough as of late xdd

thanks to builders 2 being such a good game, and akira toriyama being one of my big art inspirations, i started reading about the series a little bit and became more interested! i was never much of a JRPG person; i really only ever played the mario RPGs and pokemon. out of all the marios and pokemons i've played i only finished good ol' super mario RPG.. but given how much i enjoyed the 5 hours of the DQXIS i played i decided to buy DQ1 on my phone (like a week or so before the original trilogy was announced for the switch, F) and holy shit it sparked something in me. it's so fun!! what really drew me away from the marios and pokemons was farming levels, it felt like a chore to me, but for some reason i was actually having fun with it in DQ1

however i'm horrible and actually havent finished DQ1 yet (i'm particularly slow at playing older games) but since getting it on christmas i am over 24 hours into DQXI and goodness me it's one of the best games i've played. i heard it's on the easier side but i've beaten nearly every boss so far on my first try and it's really boosting my "Gamer Ego" lmao (for context of where i am, i just finished up at phnom nonh (and the boss there was a first try :)!!! )). though i am also thankful it's considered easy because i'm still not entirely used to JRPGs and i'm also not too great at video games in general... ANYWAYS it's definitely #3 game of the year for me so far (dqb2 at #2, sky: children of the light at #1). and yes i have cried a few times already lmao

is it possible to feel nostalgia for something you just got into a few months ago or am i just too passionate and emotional? lol. i'm excited to play more games in this series, especially 2, 3, and 8!! dragon quest is AWESOME and i'm very glad i'm into it now.. and yknow? it's funny, because many years ago i saw a DQ game for the 3ds i think? it was some nintendo system... i can't remember too many details other than me being all "wow the characters look like dragon ball characters!!! but the logo and name is so stupid lol dragon quest?? this is a baby game!!!" oh how absolutely wrong you were, teenage me... also how dare you go calling "dragon quest" a dumb name when you like a series called "dragon ball" you dumb idiot

anyways i think i've rambled enough lol. thank you if you read this far x'dd

Can it still rain after you finish the game?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:53 AM PST

I'm trying to complete the "Light it up" sidequest, but it doesn't seem to rain, I've rest on the camp and talk to the cow but nothing still. I finish the main story already. Should I keep resting in the camp? Or is there a better way to complete the quest?

I was using Cheat Engine in Dragon Quest 8 and I found something interesting

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:22 PM PST

I was fiddling with the cheat engine and I thought about going to Trodain Castle at the beginning of the game since it is a place only accessible very far in the game. when I came across this text saying that there are thorns and you can not pass yet, I am surprised how the developers thought that somehow we could sneak into the trodain castle with tricks ahead of time (that text and the doors with thorns never appear in the game, the moment you enter the trodain castle you can walk inside)

Photo 1 (translation): Some thorns curl around the door. It can't be opened

It's funny to see how they have nothing programmed to say in this situation

    Sorry for the bad english

Playing DQ1: I was super excited to find out how much exp you get when you beat a gold golem . (I was super low level and took forever) just to see "6 exp ) makes up for it in gold I guess.

Where does DQ go from here in west?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 06:14 AM PST

When I was a kid I walked into EBX and bought Dragon Quest Monsters for my gameboy with no prior knowledge, I was at mall with my mom and I guess I complained enough that she got me a game to calm me down. 20 years later the franchise as been the my favorite series, even during the years west was getting no dragon quest games, I would just replay my old games.

So we finally did it DQ11 sold exceptionally well in West, and to its credit it wasn't trashed too hard for its combat being "old"(I don't get why you need to innovate something that is not broken and proven to be enjoyable, like how have FPS games really evolved since half life besides like aiming down scope and a sprint button, but to each your own I guess.)

So now its proven west as an appetite for Dragon Quest manga like storytelling and turn based combat system, do you think future games will be global releases? Still holding out for a DQ10 localization but we will see. I'm curious what Square Enix wants to cook up seeing next gen around the corner.

Happy holidays from Lulu at Monterrey, Mexico!

I swear, DQ Heroes is the smoothest Warriors type game I’ve ever played.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:19 PM PST

I play on PS4, and for it being a 4 year old game at the beginning of a new console generation, it runs and looks perfect. Not to mention that it has a great cast of characters and the combat is refreshing. I traded it in and bought it back just recently, and man am I loving it.

[Spoiler] Need help with DQ 11.. Currently not sure if I should continue the game

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 04:23 AM PST

I'll try to keep this spoiler free, but I'll mark it as a spoiler just in case. I am currently starting part 2 of the game. I really loved the first part, but I am really not a fan of the direction this game is going now. I am starting to tire from all the backtracking and re-recruiting and I just want to go back to adventuring with my full team. How long does the whole side questy stuff last? I really do not want to grind another 20 or so hours like this. I also heard that I should expect even more backtracking for the final third of the game and that I have to repeat a lot of things post game, is this true? I'm really lost here and I'm trying to figure out if I will enjoy the rest of the story or if this game is not meant for me.

How do I get the FUCKING jackpot in roulette? (DQ11)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 10:30 PM PST

Bunny girl said she "had the feeling", I'm at the high roller table. I gambled away like half my tokens trying every strategy I could find, from betting on every square to putting everything on 14 and 12. What do? I'm on the PS4 version if that helps
