Dragon Quest I-III on iOS or Switch?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 10:08 AM PST

I recently started playing XI S, I've been really enjoying it, and I want to play more DQ games. I figure the best place to start is with the first game, which I could play on either iPhone XR or Switch. My question is: for those of you who have played the Dragon Quest games on mobile, does it hinder the experience, or does it still feel good to play?

DQXI - First RPG of this tipe and I need help

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 08:19 AM PST

Hello! I'm having a blast, the game is better than I anticipated. I'm currently at Jaspier in the Venezia-style city (I think it's Gondolia) and I'm managing to get him to yellow but I feel I'm underleveled. I'm using quite good equipment (forging and exploring a lot) so I don't know if I should just grind or I'm just bad. I'm playing with stronger monsters and, while I beat the Slayer of the sands at party level 15 (it was hard AF, almost dropped the game because of the insta kills), Jaspier is kinda being the same wall for me because I think my party is at 16 right now. I use follow orders on all party members, I'm using aceleratle twice with sylv and sap/decelerate with Veronica. The only downside to these types of games for me really is the meaningless grind (I know I'll be hated for saying this but maybe one of you can change my mindset? idk) Thanks in advance!

Do initial levels stay the same in the Draconian Quest (Stronger Enemies)?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 07:38 AM PST

I'm asking because I'm replaying it on switch and wondering if my party member's initial levels change. Like how Erik's is LVL 5 does it change to 6 or 7 due to the stronger enemies

Any news on Dai no daiboken, new anime and game?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 06:45 AM PST

Last mention I can find is from December, teasing something in the fall of 2020. I expected more to have come out, or at least an announcement of an announcement. Does anyone have more intel on this?

I'm at the final dungeon of the main story of DQXI (S:DE). I've been avoiding sidequests for the most part up to this point. What are the big ones I should focus on before tackling the final stretch of the game?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2020 06:11 AM PST

I've just forged the Sword of Light, entered Mordegon's keep, and fought the gatemaster and found it rough enough that I figured I should look into hitting some sidequests and getting my party equipped, and possibly looming great with alt-costumes, before going through this dungeon (unless the is about to throw a plot twist on me and there's an even more final dungeon after this).

What are the best sidequests to hit?

It's been a couple days where I'm stuck on this asshole. I'm around level 50, and he keeps outlasting everyone in phase two. Phase one is a mixed bag he one shots my teammates randomly and it's frustrating. Any tips? Do I really have to grind out battles and level up? Also what's a good farming strategy to level up?? Thanks in advance!!!

DQ11 Wheel of Harma Final Trial: Guide to beating it in about 23 turns [Possible spoilers as I did this in post-game]

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:25 PM PST

Edit: I totally forgot Draconian settings are a thing. I don't have any turned on. Apologies for any confusion!

Thanks to u/cereal_bawks for reminding me!

I had to do some digging and tinkering to arrive at this method, so if anyone's stuck like I was, I figured it'd be cool to share it here.

Some caveats before we get started:

    • Most of my characters are almost at max level and have almost all their skills unlocked on the character builder. That may or may not have helped.

    • Make sure to teach Erik Divide. This multiplies the number of times some of his moves hit.

    • Make sure to teach Veronica Magic Burst (it's in her character builder if I remember correctly) in order to unlock the "Mighty Magic Burst" Pep Power.

    • Have Veronica and Serena pepped up before you begin.

    • Equip Erik with an accessory that will protect him from the Dazzle status effect (ex. Torc of Truth).

Round One: Erik (dual-wielding boomerangs) and Sylvando

    1. Have Erik use Divide.
    2. Have Sylvando cast Oomphle on Erik.
    3. Use Twomerang or Double Down (I prefer the latter), aimed mainly at the Shadeshifter enemy.
    4. You can have Sylvando attack as well if needed but you shouldn't have to.

    Round Two: Veronica and Serena

    1. Mighty Magic Burst. Enjoy your freshly-prepared takoyaki.

    Round Three: [Eight] and Rab

    1. Have Rab cast Sap on the Mimic enemy.
    2. Have [Eight] cast Double Up.
    3. Have Rab use his AoE abilities- either Kacrackle or Pearly Gates- I favor the latter.
    4. Have [Eight] use his strongest single-target multi-hit attack on the Mimic. For me, this was A Cut Above using the strongest axe I currently have.
    5. Cycle steps 3 and 4 until the Mimic is dead, then mop up whatever's left.

    Round Four: Hero and Jade

    1. If Jade goes first, have her use Femme Fatale. If Hero, use Gigagash.
    2. Whoever goes second, refer to the previous step to see what they should do.
    3. Cycle through these until you win.

This method helped me win in 23 moves- 7 under the 30-move cap to unlock all prizes for this trial.

I hope this helps folks. I know the final trial was frustrating to me, lol....

If one dragon quest game between 1-6 could get a FF7 quality remake, which one deserves it and why?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:23 PM PST

For me, I'd say 1. A cool solo adventure with (maybe) a way to summon a playable character to fight against a boss would make it an enjoyable quest. You could pick from any class to for your hero. I want to see a full circle of development from the DQ team seeing what they've learned from their 30+ years working in the industry.

    DQ11: question about Erik

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 08:20 PM PST

Hello all, I've posted about DQ11 before here and absolutely love it on Switch! Quick question, without spoilers, can someone give me a hint as to when I get Erik's extra skill tree? And is there a reason as to why he gets it but others don't? I've focused on knives and I'm quite happy with it so far, and want to expand but can't now. (Currently at what I'll dub for no spoilers "the mural")

    Thank you in advance!

    Dqs question

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 05:12 PM PST

Does anyone know the weapon symbol meanings in careers? Most of them are self explanatory like hammers and wipes but I'm not sure which sword is heavy and which is light weapons like daggers.

Are the Dragon Quest Heroes games similar to regular Dragon Quest RPG’s?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 12:04 PM PST

I love the Dragon Quest main series.

    I've nearly finished 11.

I may pick up Final Fantasy X having never played any of the series but love a good westernised, colourful RPG.

(I've played and loved both builders games)

Also loved the Bravely Default series and am a huge LoZ fan.

Just not sure what the Dragon Quest Heroes games entail.

Want to restart DQ11 on hard mode. Question about how far in the game I am.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2020 12:00 PM PST

So I didn't know about hard mode when I started the game, and it's just way too easy so far. Especially for a DQ game which I expect to be hard.

I'm at the part where you can take your boat under water, and just went to the medal school.

I was wondering percentage wise, how far in the game is this?

    Is hardmode worth it?

I might just start a separate save and not delete where I'm at in this one.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not but

I picked up dragonquest 11 for the switch and I'm around 2 hours and it seems to be an enjoyable and quality made game! I'd recommend trying it out
