Dragon Quest V is rotten apple worth using?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 09:55 AM PDT

I'm on my way to get the fire ring and I gotta grind for a bit. Slime lost it's usefulness so I got out the rotten apple. He seems solid but I've read his lvl caps at 20 and while his dmg and defense isn't bad, is it worth using?

DQ11. Spoiler. That Serena scene in act 2 was fantastic.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:19 AM PDT

First off, this is my first mainline Dragon Quest game and Im playing it mostly blind. Im talking about Serena crying and cut her hair scene after Veronica's death. Veronica's deathwas sad, but I shrug it off quickly because I have a feeling that she will come back somehow later in the story. I mean, what am I supposed to do with the cat outfit if she doesn't come back.

I felt sad again when Serena started having flashbacks and talking about Veronica. But, her voice crack when she said "I think Im going to cry" made me shed a tear. Her voice acting was so good and the scene itself was very well done. It has been more than a decade since I cried in any media or video games, and I play a lot. What made it even more amazing was the fact that I was spoiled about Veronica's death but I somehow still cried during Serena's scene.

I made this post because I had to vent somewhere honestly.

What are your goals in Dragon Quest XI?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:19 AM PDT

I'm very interested in trying out the game but I was just wondering if someone could explain to me what your goals are in the game. For instance, in Breath of the Wild your goals are to take control of all the towers, complete the shrines, conquer the divine beasts and go to Hyrule castle to defeat Ganon and save Zelda.

What are the goals in Dragon Quest XI? When I'm playing a game I like the feeling of progression and that I am working towards accomplishing something, just wondering what that is in DQ XI.

    DQ8 best weapons?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:57 PM PDT

What are the best weapons for each character and why? My planned build was : -100 spears 100 courage then the rest in swords for hero -100 axes 100 humanity then the rest in scythes for yangus -100 staff 100 sex appeal then the rest on whips for jessica -100 bow/sword 100 charisma then rest on sword/bow for angelo. PS: I'm planning to 100% beat the game

    DQ11 Feels...Lacking

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:23 AM PDT

I've been a big Dragon Quest fan for years. I kinda use 8 as the standard cause it was the most technologically advanced for it's time and it was hands down the best RPG on the PS2 of that time.

When I heard 11 was going to be a thing I was over the moon, but after having sunk nearly 100 hours into it, I can't help but think it missed the mark in alot of waves. No orchestral soundtrack, main character lacks weapon variety, characters seem shallow, has too many modern elements and very less of what captures fhe medieval fantasy essense that 8 did such an amazing job capturing. It feels lacking in so many ways, and Drustan Trials rewards are just...insulting compared to the Dragovian Trials of old, and do I even need to mention the Fun Sized Forge?

The game is great, but it lacks so many things that could've made it a sequel worthy of its best one, 8, but doesn't. Granted, this is the first proper DQ we have had in years, but it still feels too cartoony at times. Even on parts where it's supposed to take itself seriously it doesn't. 8 had alot of dark and very serious parts and handled it perfectly. Alot of the character dialogue killed alot of the more serious and dark parts of the game.

Just my thoughts on the game after have a long period of time to play it.

DQ11 Explain the ending lol (spoilers)

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:34 PM PDT

So you beat the true final boss. You see the dq3 cooee in the end. So this game takes place before 3? Then how did we help serenica if she was in his timeline? Maybe because I ONLY know of this game I'm confused. Lol can someone break it down.

What is going on in this video?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:02 PM PDT

This is the video in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmjAtl3_0pc.

I spent about 500 hours in DQIX and have absolutely no clue on what is happening here: it looks like some kind of hard mod for the game (including new moves? I've never seen that vibrating dodging animation before). This is exciting as I've never heard of anything like this for DQIX, can anyone shed some light on this? I don't speak Japanese and both the video and the comments are all in it.

Would you be alright with a voiced protagonist in a mainline Dragon Quest game?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 01:33 PM PDT

I'm perfectly okay with silent protagonists, unlike certain people who think that having a silent protagonist in a JRPG is lazy, but since Horii apparently wants to shake things up in DQ XII, do you think he might make the protagonist voiced for the first time in a mainline game? I kind of doubt that it'll happen, but if it did would you be okay with that?
