I had my gf, who's never played a dq game, come up with names for some of the characters. Here's the results:

And with that, Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, is complete. That game is going to be an impossible act to follow. What an amazing experience from start to finish. (plus now I've beaten half the series!)

Should've looked like this during Act 2 onward

Newbie here. Anything I should know before I sink my teeth in? (No offense) I have never played a DQ title; but I do know that it's a "big deal". That is, it laid foundations for JRPGs that we know and love today (NES, SNES, etc.). I skipped DQVIII, back on my old PS2.

GF ordered me some used games in “good” condition. They came CIB and in fantastic shape. Now time to get more!

OG DQ fan wondering if offline DQ IX worth it?

    Posted: 28 May 2020 10:08 AM PDT

First off, I'm DQ Old School. OLD SCHOOL. Like, Nintendo Power sent me my free copy of Dragon Warrior for NES back in 1989 Old School (nope, I don't still have it).

I came back to the series recently. I've beaten VIII and about to do the same with XI S. Next up is to tackle the ones I hadn't gotten to before: III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX. Obviously, IX exists (so far) on only one platform (DS), and it's designed to be played with others online. Also, as far as I know, that's an impossibility in 2020. I've gotten to that town early on where you're able to generate generic player after generic player, with different job settings. Suddenly the whole structure of the game felt kinda rudderless to me. I haven't picked it back up since that point.

Is IX a worthwhile one player experience? Should I try VII (prettier on the 3DS, although I've heard the complaints about story) or reach further back for a true classic?

Help me, I'm old and only have so much time left to spend grinding!!

    DQ9 Time Started?

    Posted: 28 May 2020 10:07 AM PDT

Is there a way to check what date I started the game on? I can only see play time, but I swear I remember seeing a "Adventure started on:" or something like that on the title screen. Is there anyway to know for sure?

If DRAGON QUEST Ⅲ is remade

AITA for struggling with the whole 'choose your own adventure' Veronica or Serena and Hendrick memories in DQ11? *spoilers?*

    Posted: 28 May 2020 12:29 AM PDT

I almost restarted DQ11 but then I remembered the part where bringing Veronica back (which I was beyond happy and relieved about) meant erasing everything about Hero's experiences with Serena and Hendrick. Our girl Serena cut off that hair and had epic revelations about who she was as a person 1000% glow up, and Hendrick became a brother and I have to erase all that to save the world and bring Veronica home where she belongs. 0/10. Do not prefer. I may have definitely rage paused the whole game (I get very attached to fictional characters don't@me). I remember talking to the 1 person I knew who was also playing the game at the time and he was completely unconcerned which was very concerning because it made me feel like this existential crisis was somehow just me being a big drama llama. Please tell me one of you out there also struggled with this. I need to play it again and finish it pls send help

Dragon Quest - Infinity Strash The Adventure of Dai

What would you want out a hypothetical Dragon Quest remake, for any game?

    Posted: 27 May 2020 08:22 PM PDT

Me and a friend were discussing the possibilities of a DQ3 remake, and what it could be like, how it would do, etc. Especially since the 35th anniversary is next year, they could honestly announce something like this for the future. You could just make it like a different FF7R in terms of scope, while still keeping a turn-based playstyle, and perhaps even make it episodic (covering the first 3 games). Something along those lines, I think it could do really well in both the West and especially Japan.

I figured I'd spread the question elsewhere though, because it really was interesting to think on. What would you want out of a remaster out of any DQ game? What game would you even pick to be remastered? Something smaller, something a lot more grand, etc.? Change the series gameplay up a lot or keep it as is? I feel like there's a lot of potential for a DQ remake, and I'd be surprised if they didn't announce one soon just to celebrate the series' legacy or something. Though, given how long FF7R took, I also wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't bother...
