Dragon Quest Clones/Inspired games on Steam? Posted: 20 Jun 2020 10:09 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm doing some research on games inspired by DQ, preferably on Steam that I could check out. I'm looking for retro styled turn based games with the DQ aesthetic, and I'm looking for lesser known titles that most people haven't heard of. You guys heard of any good ones? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Jun 2020 10:00 AM PDT Okay so I'm curious dose anyone actually enjoy free form fighting in Dragon Quest IX because personally in my opinion I just think it looks boring and slow. [link] [comments]

Has snyone let AI handle boss battle? Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:49 PM PDT Just want to know. AI is pretty smart, I has won Jasper Unbound using AI to fight and I only switch character or control Hero to use item. Edit: sorry for my grammar [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Jun 2020 09:30 PM PDT So I've been playing Chrono Trigger and it hit me that the only reason this game isn't related in some way to the Dragon Quest franchise is because Squaresoft and Enix were not merged at the time of its release. But it follows the same guidelines as DQ: -Akira Toriyama art style? Check -Silent protagonist? Check -Traditional combat system? Somewhat check if you choose "Wait" over "Active," though still more Final Fantasy than Dragon Quest. -Fantasy setting? Somewhat check, though the setting changes due to time travel. -Similar writing style and tone? Check. When you consider why we haven't gotten a new Chrono game, it's because of sales. Chrono Trigger for SNES sold well, but was still beaten by Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Super Mario RPG. Chrono Cross sold like crap, considering the resources put into it--even Parasite Eve outsold it. Chrono Trigger for DS sold horribly because, frankly, most people weren't willing to buy a port of a game they can play for free on emulator. Bottom line, there's no incentive for working towards this franchise when they can just make a new Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Moving onto Dragon Quest, this is one of the best-selling JRPG franchises in the world, only most of these sales come from Japan. So why not try to somewhat fix this? It might sound crazy, but what if Dragon Quest 12, for example, was actually a real Chrono Trigger sequel? The novelty of this being a surprise sequel to one of the most highly acclaimed JRPGs would attract curious newcomers. The Dragon Quest brand would also attract staple fans, making this, potentially, the best selling game of that series if they put in the same love they did for Chrono Trigger and DQXI. They could even promote it by releasing a remaster of the original Chrono Trigger for the console eShops before release. So how would a game like this work? Easy. It would have an original story with an original silent protagonist, the slime monsters, and all you come to expect from a DQ game. In essence, this would wholeheartedly be a new Dragon Quest, but the similarities between the two series would make this so seamless that it would concurrently be a fully fledged and faithful sequel to Chrono Trigger, set shortly before Chrono's Fall of Guardia (see DS version epilogue), feature both new and returning characters you can recruit (e.g. Frog, Robo, and Lucca), have returning villains like Dalton and an amnesiac Magus, and involve time travel (and/or possible space exploration, given Lavos' nature). Combat should be turn-based and perfectly blend Trigger's with DQXI's. As in, you can walk around the field like in DQXI, but it would feature the ATB system (optional) and dual/triple techs. With the freedom of movement, there would be more creative ways to align your attacks so you can attack multiple enemies at once without waiting for them to move first (as was the case in Trigger). Is this crazy? Or does anyone agree that these two series would compliment each other very well for one new mainline DQ game/CT sequel? Could a game like this potentially break the sales barrier in the west? [link] [comments]
What is the intended order for Act 2? Posted: 19 Jun 2020 12:35 PM PDT I know you're supposed to go to Arboria but I've just been going all around the map seeing what I can uncover and I actually got all the party members back except 1. When i got to the boss fight in hotto i realized im missing serena. So i stopped following the events in Hotto and went to sniflheim. Is this breaking the sequence of the game or does it not matter at all and I can just do it in any order I want to? [link] [comments] |
