    First play through DQ11

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 08:04 AM PDT

Just playing my first DQ game ever. DQ11 on the switch. Only 4 hours in, but just returned to Cobblestone and was like OMG! Sometimes the game mechanics feel a bit old-fashioned, but I have so much fun!

Hey guys, I just finished my first dragon quest game, which is VIII.

Felt in love with the game. One of best JRPG I've played! I can now probably say, I'm one of you cool guys now! :D

Which DQ should I play next?

Dude dragon quest builders 2 is now one of my favorite dragon quest games

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 02:45 AM PDT

I still think dragon quest 5 and 11 are my favorites but I think more people need to look past the minecraftyness of builders and enjoy the story and gameplay of this game. It's a REAL dragon quest game. Do you guys consider these games cannon?

    I’m 8 hours in, loving this game(dq11)

Tbh most of the time I don't like turn based game but I feel like this game somehow does it the best. In my opinion, the graphics make the game so much better. The art style is so pleasant in the eyes and every enemy has something unique about it.

Help with Dragon Quest III boss

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 07:35 AM PDT

I am trying to kill Orochi, but keep dying. The guide I have been following says my team should be at least level 50, but they are only 22. Do you really have to grind until 50 or am I missing something? Is there another path I could take and come back to Orochi later?

    At A Loss For Words

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 05:52 PM PDT

I just finished the main story in DQ11 on the Nintendo Switch and I don't have enough superlatives for how I feel about this game. This is my first JRPG since FF7 way back in the day and I never finished it. I was looking for a really good JRPG for the new system and picked up DQ11 on the strength of the reviews and some videos I'd watched on YouTube. I'm so glad I did!

In all, it took about 120 hours to get through the main story and most of the side quests. By the time I left the Fortress of Fear, I was at level 56 and was actually surprised that I wasn't dying left and right. The ending had me totally emotional, especially with the scenes that played during the credits. I was really impressed by the maturity displayed in this game. It may look like a kids game but it's anything but and it was a joy to play through.

The ability to craft gear was definitely interesting and exciting. I loved having my skills upgraded as time went on, and I crafted nearly everything that I used in the game. Not just to save money, but also give me the ability to rework items that I'd picked up along the way to make them stronger. I didn't need to grind a whole lot in the game, either. I never felt like the monsters and bosses were too strong for me to handle.

I have just a few nitpicks about an otherwise stellar game. Mainly I wish that it was more open-world than it is, but I guess that's what JRPGs do best. I'm used to games like Skyrim and The Witcher giving me the ability to go anywhere and do anything, whereas DQ11 is far more linear. There are things that you can get to but cannot access because it's just not the right time for you yet. I've been interleaving BOTW between play sessions of DQ11 and the ability to just GO in BOTW totally spoiled me. Also, I would have liked the Hero to actually, you know, TALK. But, again, I understand that this is a thing in JRPGs as well so I'm just going to have to get used to it if I plan on diving into another.

I'm going to go ahead and keep playing to see where this final act takes me and my team. So far this has been an experience both rewarding and heartbreaking. I'm almost tempted to go buy me a 2DS XL just to play the previous games in the series because I'm horribly addicted now.

Thanks for letting me come here and be a part of this group, and I hope that everyone who hasn't played this yet will pick it up and give it a shot.

(MILD SPOILERS FOR THE FILM) Would the Dragon Quest V movie be better as a tv series?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 07:58 PM PDT

I felt like this could of worked out so well and would make the story alot more impact-like it was in the games. Maybe get rid of their weird ending (which was still OK in my opinion) and I think DQ V would be a hit.

Like a tv series can help lay out the foundations alot and it would feel less rushed

Honestly I remembered running home from school to watch this film the day it came out in the west

But what do you guys think?

    DS cases?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 03:09 PM PDT

I'm missing the cases for DQ9 and DQ5 both for the DS. Does anyone know a place where I can buy just the case somewhere? Even if it's just a remake of the case where someone took an old case and put the cover art in it?

Getting my shit handed to me more than any other boss. My party is around 50-52, playing on stronger monsters

Running 8, Hero, Sylv, and Serena. Doing all the normal shit, buffing/debuffing/healing. Kinda at a loss and I really don't want to grind another 100k exp
