After 2 Years I have a way to play every Dragon Quest game. Btw these games were much more expensive than I thought.

Dragon Quest VIII question (containers spoilers)

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:26 AM PDT

I'm playing the PS2 version of DQ8 and I'm nearly at the end. I just beat Rhapthorne's first form, and now I have to collect the 7 orbs to get to the final battle.

    How long does this take?

Also, what level should I be at? Hero is at 42 and I think everyone else is 41.

Part of me wants to beat the game, but I'm also not as excited for the game as I was before.

Newcomer to DQ! Playing Dragon Quest 5 on SNES first!

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 09:36 PM PDT

Decided to play the fan translation of 5 for my first entry. I'm just comfortable for the snes and I hear Aeon Genesis did a great job translating the game. I'm loving a lot about the game despite how early this game is in the SNES's lifespan (8-bit styled graphics, instrumentation is a little weak for the music, no run button). It's a charming game, I just got transported into the fairy world. While the story concept and charm are holding me to the game, I find the gameplay to be way too simple. I know it's the begining of the game, but the most I've had to strategize in battle is debuffing the first boss a few times and maybe choosing when to heal or use items.

I hear the games are simple like this in general but this game basically requires you to grind to win battles early on. Does this get better in this version of the game?

Since Dragon Quest 12 is in development, what new features do you think they are going to add in that game?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 10:54 AM PDT

My answer is that they could add amiibo functionality, if they are going to release that game on a Nintendo console. You can scan any amiibo, and you can get items or gold. If you scan the DQ11 hero amiibo(Smash Ultimate) you can unlock a Luminary costume for your Dragon Quest 12 Hero.

Should I skip to Dragon Quest XI and not play Dragon Quest III?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:44 PM PDT

It seems tedious and I'm not sure if I'm missing out on much for the story? I got to the pyramid, climbed to the top, and there's like no where to go? This is where I told myself that maybe I'm best skipping the iOS/NES games if the game is going to be bad at giving me hints on where to go next.

    What do you think?

Does the Japanese physical release have English subtitles?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 12:02 AM PDT

My Switch collection follows a strict rule- the game has to be a physical game. I love the cartridges and want to keep supporting them. I want Heroes but it hasnt been released in North America (at least on Switch). So my question is does the physical Japanese game have English subtitles? Or is there more recent news of localizing it?

DQXI post game ending question spoilers

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 10:48 PM PDT

I'm really confused. Did the hero lose the power of the luminary (meaning he became a normal human) giving it to serenica? i really don't understand what happened when the hero showed the mark of the luminary to her because his mark faded away and serenica got one. does that mean serenica became the luminary and the hero became a normal person?

I came across a thread recently where someone stated they play DQX with an auto translator. Is this possible?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 11:48 AM PDT

I can't find as much info as I want on it but I have come across a few things where people get the text on a text box in game and translate it.

Apparently there are many ways to do this but I don't know if this is a reliable way to play the entire game. I very much want to play dqx to the point I'm willing to learn Japanese even though it's a beast of a language
