Can we talk about Kotaku’s review for a minute? Posted: 16 Dec 2020 10:42 PM PST The last (and only) game i had played in the DQ series was Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker maybe back in 2008. That's the only ever experience I've had with the series, and although it was a great one, I haven't played a game since or really had the desire to without the "building a team on monsters" mechanic. I watched Kotaku's review of Dragon Quest XI last night. It made me buy Dragon Quest XI this morning. Jeez man, how convincing of a review was that? I feel like that singular review, boasting 1.2 million views, has to have marketed this game more to the west than Square Enix itself. That video wasn't a review. It was a love letter. I am only 10 hours in and I can say it is a love letter to a fantastic game, one that deserves all the praise in the world. God bless Tim Rogers. Here's the review if you missed it (or just want to watch it again like me) [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Dec 2020 01:18 AM PST So I'm probably not the most obvious fan of DQ, and that's because before a last month I'd never played a DQ game. I'm mostly into competitive MP games: CoD, Halo, Rocket League, R6 Siege, Apex etc. I'm a pretty knowledgeable gamer - I've got a pretty deep knowledge of the industry, gaming history and everything else etc etc. So while I knew of DQ I'd never played one. Not until DQXI S came to game pass. Though I have a very eclectic taste in video games my weak spot would definitely be JRPGs - I've played 1 JRPG in the last 10 years. But when the demo popped up downloaded it and now I'm totally obsessed. I adore this game, its fantastic, I love the combat, I love the art style and the characters. So... Hi to the DQ community! Did Dragon Quest 11S just accidentally pioneer the future of "NG+"? Posted: 17 Dec 2020 08:49 AM PST This does not involve any story spoilers. It purely revolves around the ability to switch from 3D/2D. So, I started up my post-game file for Dragon Quest 11S and was curious about 2D mode, so I switched but then noticed it allowed you to jump to different "checkpoints" in your adventure while keeping your levels, non-story items and equipment, etc. This didn't make me question anything at first, until I thought to try and switch from 3D to 2D, and then back to 3D again while still being at the same part of the story. What this essentially allowed me to do is jump back to any arc in the story and essentially replay it, as opposed to starting an entirely new file with a few things being kept from the original adventure like other RPGs do like Persona or some of the latest Kingdom Hearts games. Maybe I am really overthinking this, but imagine if other games allowed you to "jump" to previous parts in the story once you completed the game so you could replay your favorite parts of the game, or maybe even "break" the game by re-grabbing items you normally could only grab once, like a special weapon from a quest. I'm just imagining the potential this could have in other games and honestly I don't think I've seen anyone talk about just how much potential this has for future NG+ features in games. I'm enjoying Dragon Quest XI but..... Posted: 16 Dec 2020 05:07 PM PST Just got Dragon Quest XI a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it and it's my first dragon quest game. I have taken a break from Pokemon since the recent games weren't that good. So far everything has been good but I have a few problems. Once while battling the muddy hands, they kept calling for back up every other turn. I spent 30 minutes trying to defeat them. Calling for back up is just plain annoying. Also the music seems very limited. I would have loved that every other city would have their own theme just like in Pokemon so that each city would be unique or each area of the map would also have different music. But this is more of "I need to stop thinking that I'm playing Pokemon". These are the only 2 problems that I have right now. Once I'm finish with the game, I'll post my final thoughts on it but I just needed to rant a bit here. Have a nice day/night. [link] [comments]
Need help with the first boss in act 3 Posted: 16 Dec 2020 01:19 PM PST So, I actually had a pretty easy time defeating Mordegon at the finale of act 2 (together with Jasper, both fights were very doable). But... ironically, now that I've traveled back in time and have to fight Mordegon in his normal form.... I'm getting destroyed. The purple mist move is the main culprit, it's extremely overpowered, my old team is pathetic, his HP is too much, etc. And he seems to have like infinite turns. What do I do? [link] [comments]
Tatsunaga is the worst boss in act 2 Posted: 16 Dec 2020 05:31 PM PST He get 3 sometimes 5 attacks per round and I die before I get him to red health. Everyone except 8 is 40+. I know it gets worse from here but im still mad. [link] [comments] |
