- So I recently finished DQ11S on PS4 and am getting DQH1&2 next......but what I really want is DQ8 on PS4 since I hear its one of the best in the series. Sadly its only on PS2 and 3DS and I'm not gonna buy an old console just to play one game.

Dragon Quest VIII vs XI Comparison Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:57 AM PST As a kid I played DQ I and II on the NES. Recently started catching up on all of the fun I've missed in this series and in the last year or so have played DQ VIII on the 3DS and DQ XI on the Switch. I'm honestly torn on which is my favorite. Curious what the consensus is on this board? XI was a beautiful looking game and wonderful story. On paper, it should be the best. My only complaints about XI: 1) I hated spending time forging weapons and didn't like that it basically removed all need to grind for gold to purchase weapons and armor in shops. Managing resources and deciding when and on what to spend your hard earned gold on to upgrade equipment is a key element to the old DQ games that I miss. The excitement of seeing what new items I could buy in a new town was gone. 2) I absolutely loved the final ending of ACT 3 but I hated grinding through it. It got repetitive visiting the same towns and just felt like one big to-do list, unlike ACTS 1 & 2 which always stayed interesting and had good pacing. I wish there was a way to include the story and ending to ACT 3 into the main game without dragging things out like that. I don't even know why they consider that ending to be "post-game" as it is beautiful and needs to be experienced. Some may not have even known about it. With VIII, the pacing was perfect throughout and I think the story was almost as good. Obviously the graphics aren't as good but considering the year it came out...wow, what an adventure. While I didn't like the alchemy, I prefer it to the forge and at least felt like I had to manage my gold to purchase upgraded equipment. The difficulty of VIII was also more in line with what I expect from a DQ game compared to XI. No need for Draconian mode which I guess is needed in XI if you want any sort of challenge. I also enjoyed exploration more in VIII compared to XI which seemed too segmented. Overall, both are my favorite RPG's of all time along with DQ I (nostalgia.) Wish they remade I, II, and III into one 3D game using the DQ XI engine. Also hope that DQ XII follows the same style as VIII and XI which I think is the winning formula. So help me decide...VIII or XI...which is the better overall game? [link] [comments]

Anyone have know why the DQVIII android port runs so poorly ? Posted: 23 Dec 2020 10:27 AM PST I changed from iphone to android before I could beat it and have been waiting for a sale so I could finish it. I picked it up last night, and it felt like it was running at 15 FPS. I have a brand new Pixel 5, but don't remember the iOS port being anywhere near as bad. Is there some fix or anything I could do to increase the frame rate? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

A question about the post-game content Posted: 23 Dec 2020 10:25 AM PST So apperently there are several hidden bosses and quests that can be found by revisiting areas (I learned that the hard way when I fought the Malicious Grey Gordon and got destroyed) So I wanted to ask all of you: Where exactly are these optional encounters, and in what order would you suggest doing them in? New to the Dragon Quest universe... can anyone explain to me how in-universe fighting works? Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:41 AM PST I know it's a rated E videogame, but I've been noticing that within the universe (cutscnes) no one actually gets "hurt" or even bruised to say the least. I was playing DQ11 and got up to the battle royale thing with Vince and was wondering how are the characters fighting with blades, knives, and sharp claws within the tournament? If it's not fight to the death why would they be using actual weapons to fight within the tournament? Or are all weapons within the Dragon Quest universe just considered a blunt weapon? If so, wouldn't it just of make more sense for everyone to use fists as their main fighting style within the series like Dragon Ball? Like what's the point of any weapon within the universe? Aside from magic that is. Maybe I'm just thinking about this too hard, but was just curious. [link] [comments]
