Dragon Quest You do not want to know how long this took! Ended up finishing Act 2 on Level 68 (perhaps a tad over levelled but required as some bosses kept kicking my butt even then). Now to start the postgame!

The inventory system in DQ XI is SO GOOD.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:43 AM PST

Developers: please copy this inventory system.

    • Items have unique icons with color and designs that make it quick to discern what they are.
    • The interface is straightforward: lists are easy to read and navigation feels solid instead of floaty.
    • Each character carries stuff, not just their armor/weapons. This is both immersive and convenient during battle. You also have a "bag" with communal resources that everyone can use.
    • Lettering, color, and button prompts help you to navigate menus even if you haven't played for a while and forgot which button does what.
    • Loot, recipes, and crafting are straightforward. Tutorials are short and to the point.

I've played dozens of RPGs and many of them have sloppy, unintuitive menus and inventory systems (looking at you, Mass Effect Andromeda).

One of the reasons I can't put this game down is the attention to the meta design. It's so simple to play. I don't have to remember how to craft or where my items are. It's apparent in the core inventory design.

I hope other RPG franchise take note, because I often quit games that feel like menu simulators.

    Veronica's levelled spell-list?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 09:46 AM PST

Does anyone have a list of what level Veronica learns what spells at? I feel like she doesn't have anything more powerful than Bang or Crack at the moment...

    Octagonia theory

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 07:30 AM PST

Okay, hear me out. I've played the first arc of DQ XI about 6 times now at this point, and every single time I get to the masked warriors competition, no matter what level I am, I ALWAYS lose on the first attempt to whambalina and sinderella, but then win the next time I try to fight them. It's literally the only fight in that area I've never beaten on the first attempt, and last night my friend got to that area and the exact same thing happened to him.

I've even beaten the 5 guards with Erik before they capture him and you have to save him, so I really don't think it's my strategy (but I realize it totally could be)

My theory is that you are meant to lose that fight so that you can see that Vince unnaturally will keep the fight going until the ref calls a rematch. Let me know what you think! I realize this is probably not true, but it seems a little too coincidental..

    Tips for DQ3?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 10:56 AM PST

I'm playing through the Android version of DQ3 and having a really bad time right now. I went through the first continent just fine, but now that I'm in the second continent I can barely leave the first town without getting party wiped.

My party is around level 8, I have a Hero, Priest, Warrior and Mage, and I just spent all of my gold to get good gear for them. Even so, there only seems to be two kinds of encounters - encounters with baby enemies that barely give any XP and aren't a threat, and encounters with 4+ enemies all of which kick my ass and kill my whole party.

What am I supposed to do here? I can't even grind properly

DQ3 no stat increase on leveling up after class change?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 06:04 AM PST

So I just changed my level 39 thief to a sage, and started leveling her outside Rimuldar, but for the first 8 levels I got +0 in literally every stat. Level 9 and 10 I got like +1 in strength. This didn't happen when I changed my level 21 mage to a sage earlier.

Is this normal? Is it some sort of stat growth cap that needs her level to catch up to her bonus stats from the thief class, or what?

[DQXI Switch] Rod of Rapidity/Staff of Salvation glitch?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:37 PM PST

I have the Rod of Rapidity equipped to Veronica, and I have her AI tactic in battle set to Fight Wisely. However, when she uses the item in battle, it shows as her using the Staff of Salvation (which I don't own) which heals when used as an item. The Rod is supposed to increase agility when used. Has this happened to anyone else or is just a random glitch on my end? I googled it and didn't see anything besides the individual wiki entries for the weapons.

    Treated Myself for Christmas

Posting these a bit late, but they came in the day after Christmas. Really excited to play the Nes originals of Dragon Quest 2 and 3. They even came with sleeves, which is great considering what I paid for both... I might keep Dragon Quest IV on my radar for 2021. Dragon Quest 3 might be my favorite in the series, honestly.

    Serious question about monsters

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:05 PM PST

i just delivered perfume from a zombie to that same zombies daughter, who attends a school with other monsters and humans

are the monsters the player fights like wild animals or crazy or something, and these nice monsters are few and far between

if zombies and slimes and bats can be polite and courteous im damn sure old man with shell on his head can be too and doesn't have to attack me on sight

is it ever explained why one slime decides to be nice and the other decides to be mean, or is it just a part of the game
