Can someone please further confirm this for me: So the "Definite" version of the PS4 is basically just a port of the Switch version and has the same worse graphics??

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 06:17 AM PDT

The "Definite" version of Dragon Quest X1 for the PS4 i mean...

    ...am I hearing that right???

I just bought DQXI: Definite Edition for my PS4 because I assumed the "Definite Edition" is the one to get with all the bell and whistles and I didn't bother to do any research whatsoever. So I was told today that the "Definite Edition" of the PS4 is just a straight port of the Switch version with the same worse graphics of the Switch version. Wow.... Is that really true??? So they didn't bother to just add in the extra contents for the OG PS4 version, so they just port the Switch over??

I'm so upset right now and feel cheated... >_> Then again it was probably my fault for not doing any research fist..

    Soldiers of Smile achievement

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 05:09 AM PDT

Currently playing through and really enjoying this game. I am also quite the achievement Hunter.

At the beginning of Act 2 where you have each of the characters' side lines I did the part with the circus and also killed the monster near Hotto yet the achievement didn't pop.

Have I missed something or will it pop further down the line? I just don't like the thought of having to play all the way through again to get the achievement.

Dragon Quest X - Japanese Physical Copy

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 04:18 AM PDT

Can you play the Japanese physical version of Dragon Quest 10 on a US account on a US Switch? Do you need to make a Japanese account to play it or does that just apply if you are buying it digitally?

How often do you use Party Talk in DQ11?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:40 AM PDT

I've been playing through 11 and had become aware of how much optional dialog there is. Being a JRPG, I expected stuff like, but idk, it seems to me that 11 seems pretty in-depth. Maybe I'm just numb to basic ass Pokemon dialog, but I still find it surprising how much effort is put into something some players will most likely miss. I've found that even places like towns, were your party isn't visible, they still have a good amount of things to say. Although it is used to make sure that the player is on track with the main quest, I find it very charming and think it adds a little to each of the members personality. Just thought it was a cool feature.

Secondary question, did the older games have something similar to this? Relatively new to DQ, it's the first one I've owned personally.

Act 3 beginning question, spoilers for act 2 ahead

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 05:11 PM PDT

So do you lose everything if you travel to the past? A.K.A. levels, casino coins, coins in bank, equipment, medals, etc? Or do you regain all of that later? And Hendrick do still join your party or it's gone forever?

    Dragon Quest Multiverse theory

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 02:00 PM PDT

    https://preview.redd.it/i9uan21ez7r61.png?width=2120&format=png&auto=webp&s=66fc9570afa427d21abda0826ef7144d9f43f871

After playing DQ Heroes, I thought of something.

DQ Heroes "explains" how the DQ universe works, which is actually not a universe, but a multiverse.

Be warned, spoilers ahead (about many DQ titles: but of course they're just "spoilers" about anything that concerns the timeline, no event of any specific story will be spoiler if it has no connection to this theory at all).

Besides DQ1, 2, 3 and the "fourth one" (which take place in the same world, just in different ages), all the other chapters take place in a different world, with different cities, different kingdoms, even different gods (dq1-2-3 has Rubiss, who is a goddess, dq7 has literally God, dq8 has an unnamed goddess, dq9 has The Almighty...), something that can't be just explained with the passing of time (for example, DQ7's world is a bunch of relatively small islands. No matter how much time has passed or will pass, it can't take place in the same worlds that have "regular" giant land masses and continents like in the other DQs). So a "DQ continuity" just isn't possible, isn't a thing, and we all know that. Until now I not only didn't find, but never even SEARCHED for an in-game explanation of the DQ Universe. I just thought "every game has it's own fictional world and has nothing to do with the others except the name on the cover, the gameplay, the medieval fantasy setting, the light-hearted mood and the fact they're all made by the same guy".

But what happens in DQ Heroes actually makes sense.

It's explicitly stated that the characters come from different WORLDS, and they've been brought in that world by Empyrea to save it from destruction. They even come from different TIMES in their respective stories: the four DQ4 characters come from their world AFTER the events of DQ4 (Alena, Kyril and Maya are already in friendly terms with Psaro when they meet him, which means that they have discovered that the real villain was Aamon and Psaro was just manipulated), while instead Bianca and Nera have been "kidnapped" the night before DQ5 Hero chose one of them, which means that while they're not in their world "time doesn't flow" in it, since of course in DQ5 there is no such thing of Bianca and Nera disappearing for days, or another possible explanation is that since Empyrea can also travel through time, she just left them at the same time she picked them up initially. Jessica and Yangus made some comments that implied that Raphtorne was already taken care of in their world, so they too were "done" with their own journey when they were taken into DQH's world, much like DQ4's dudes.

And not only the fact that Empyrea can travel (and make others travel on her back) through different planes of existence is part of her lore, but we even saw it first hand in DQ8 when we went into the dark version of DQ8's world: that was another universe, another plane of existence, not a place in that same world.

And to top it all, another game agrees with this argument:

in the gacha game Dragon Quest of the Stars, there are events related to main DQ titles (DQI event, DQII event, DQIII event and so on). In those games too the characters of the main DQs claim to come from "another world", and Empyrea, the same DQ8 Empyrea, IS in that game too.

And in DQ6, another game where the concept of "plane of existence" is, like in DQ8, part of the story of that game itself (with the Realm of the Dreams), we can meet the heroes of DQ4 and 5.

Not to mention DQ9 and the fact that you can meet a lot of characters from other DQs, and find weapons and armor that shouldn't exist in DQ9's world like Erdrick's sword. Until now I just thought of them as easter eggs, optional fanservice content, and they sure are, but what if they're MORE than that? What if they ALSO make sense and aren't just a "buddy, take this Nostalgia Sword"?

And last but not least, the 3ds release of DQ XI and the XI S re-release: you can, again, visit the worlds of the other DQs.

Now, maybe I'm trying too much to get some sense out of spin offs that maybe aren't even canon, and maybe each DQ IS a completely, totally separated work of fiction that has no connection whatsoever to any other chapter (besides 1-2-3 and their... "fourth buddy", of course, and the zenithian trilogy even though connections there are already really vague), but the multiverse theory at this point just makes sense. It's consistent, maybe even more than the "there's no connection at all" argument, since it explains the spin offs and the small connections that could be here and there, plus DQ 9.

"A universe" made of different planes of existence, where every world we saw in each game exists together with the others, but unable to connect with them, unless Empyrea, the Godbird who can travel through those planes, meddles with them. That would explain everything, even more than just saying "there's no connection at all".

    Dragon Quest 11 help (kinda)(Spoilers)

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 03:13 PM PDT

    Hey!

I'm currently around 55 hours in, I'm just collecting the pieces I need for the sword. Found the ore and currently in the celestial sands as we speak. Could someone give me a rough idea of how long I have left? I'm going through main quests only really. Not that I am bored of the game, I think it is actually one of the better JRPGs I've played however, I am ready to move on now and just want a rough estimate on how long I will be playing for before I move on to other games. I have a backlog the length of my leg as most of us probably have lol thanks in advance!

    Dragon Quest 12 Gameplay Idea.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 03:08 PM PDT

So my idea is to give monsters elemental strengths and weaknesses. Along with the obvious thing of dealing more or less damage based on what elements you hit the monster with, hitting them with certain elements will either fill up or deplete a meter for a character to get pepped up...
