    DQ 12 Female Protagonist

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:49 PM PDT

I recently saw an article on screen rant about how it was necessary for dq12 to have a female protagonist. I would like to personally know how the actual player base feels about this. Not that I think that we have an issue with or would be against a female protagonist more so that the author doesn't seem to understand the franchise by their argument on a fundamental level. First and foremost dragon quest/ warrior is an eastern franchise meaning that the western need for representation is basically irrelevant due to the fact that the author of said article is trying to impose western beliefs of equality as a measure to "revitalize" a franchise that is just now gaining a larger western audience as evidenced by the fact we got dq11s on switch and a port to ps4. Also the author makes the argument that voiced and scripted female characters (dq warriors) are a reason for what should be an unvoiced and unscripted female lead, following the trend of all previous dragon titles. I am not against a female lead I just believe that if that were to happen two things would be required. First and arguably most importantly Japan would want a female lead. Last I heard they literally closed for a week because a new dragon game launched. Second of all a relevant story is required around the need for a female protagonist versus a neutral or male gendered protagonist. The biggest argument for the games where you could pick a female lead is because the gender was irrelevant to the overarching narrative of who the character was (3&4). Whereas male leads typically point towards the significance of them being male or more so in older titles the primarily male audience. After all as a game where it tries its best to embrace role playing and the player assuming the role of the mc most players are male, meaning that because the player base is primarily male a male protagonist is more likely to be embraced regardless of motive compared to a female protagonist. Anyway that's my rant just curious about the opinion of others.

    Forging Accolades Busted?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 01:03 AM PDT

I'm about to face the End of Time and Timewyrm bosses, but I checked my accolade list out of curiosity and noticed that despite crafting every item to +3, only one category of items had the relevant accolade proc.

I have 105/105 recipe books and beat the main story, so in theory I've done everything and it's bugged.

The only possible explanation I have found is that reworking items you don't personally craft and can get as a drop also count, though I doubt it.

    All information is appreciated.

    Draconian Quests my playstyle?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 06:45 AM PDT

Hi, I played the Demo on the switch and loved it.

I ordered the game already and am unsure whether or not to play with stronger monsters.

On one hand, I like a challenge and am fine with dying against a new boss the first few times. I like to think about the builds, items and crafting.

But on the other hand: what I hate is grinding. I love to fight every enemy in the open field once or twice, but that is enough. I simply don't have the time to play a game for hundreds of hours because I have to reset regularly just to start again and again.

I read a few times that especially the end game is RNG dependent at times while using draconian Quests. Is it really that bad?

I played the demo with stronger monsters up until the dungeon where you have to fight the two griffons. I had to to buy a lot of healing herbs and grind quite a few levels just to explore the rooms before the boss. It was not really that much fun. Is ist that bad the whole game?

    Does Nevan have any story?

Playing through 6 for my third time. All other human party members have some nice side story, but Nevan seems pretty dull to me. Did I miss anything?

    Cobblestone Confusion (Early Game Spoiler)

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 10:37 PM PDT

When you revisit cobblestone during Act 1, and experience that weird sequence where you talk to past you, and Chalky before finding yourself in the now razed village, something occurred to me; What exactly happened and why/how did it happen?

So by this point in the game, the mechanics of using Yggdrasil saplings/roots to view past events to obtain info, solve puzzles, etc is introduced to the player.
This is is all well and fine, since all other instances of this mechanic behave the same way. ALL EXCEPT the one in cobblestone. For whatever reason this one didn't just have the player observing the events but actually being there with a visible presence. They got to talk to their past selves, Amber, young Gemma, and their now deceased grandfather. Then suddenly they are phased back into the present to learn of their village's destruction where Erik finds them in shock standing by the tree as the root stops glowing.

So what exactly happened here? Did the hero just "warp" back in time as soon as he stepped foot in Cobblestone, vanishing from Erik? Or did he walk through the rubble, completely in disbelief of the truth towards the tree where it sent his soul back in time while his body just stood there. Because I remember Erik mention how the hero was standing stock sill for a long while after returning to the present. Both options sound plausible to me, but I'm not sure. Regardless I know time travel was involved.

However, the one thing I don't get is why is this particular root so different from the ones in the rest of the game? Was there anything in the game that explains how this can happen? I've beaten the main game, and I don't think I saw anything.

So what exactly occurred here and why was it just this one time?

    DQ 11 question

    Question regarding difficulty..

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 02:01 AM PDT

So... as someone who's favorite jrpg series is SMT it was recommended that I played DQXI (my first DQ ever) with the Super Monsters Draconian setting. I'm now midway through act 2 and I'm having an absolute blast with how much I have to strategize, buff, debuff and ultimately, grind.

Which leads me to the question: Previous DQ games don't have difficulty settings right? How much easier are they compared to Super Monsters in DQXI? I'm intrigued because I completely lose interest in rpgs when its ridiculously easy like Pokemon for example, that gives you tons of moves, buffs and debuffs but never asks you to use any of them because you can beat the story by just spamming offensive moves.

Thank you a lot! I'm looking forward to playing DQ8, DQV, 7 and since I'm a fan of Monster Hunter (quest driven game with tons of post game) I'm also very excited to eventually play DQIX for hundreds of hours.

About the "Yuusha" culture in dragon quest and rpg-like stuff in Japanese culture.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 03:46 PM PDT

    Hey fellas!

Ok, so I in the process of making an video elaborating in why DQ is such an cultural icon in Japan and how defined the jrpg. And an factor that I'm yet to fully comprehend is the whole "yuusha" thing... to some extent. I do understand the meaning of it, but I'm when this whole thing of "I'm the self insert hero!" stared in Japanese culture... is this something that was already present for a long time, or was something that was brought over, in some capacity, from the west? Or was even DQ that was the one responsible for spreading this concept?

If some one is wheeling to help me out I would be really glad!

I got the ruby path of doom pastword. As someone who has never had this iconic map in dq9, I dont know where to look for the metal king slimes. Is it still in dq11, and if so what floor and part of the map?
