    Looking for a dragon quest game for the GFs birthday!

    Hey all,

    My gf loves dragon quest. She was recently playing a one but she could only go soo far as it was a demo. For her Bday, I plan to buy her the full version. But I have no idea what one it was!

    The only thing I can remember is a cutscene where a little white blob walks into a village on a sunny day, but then the weather turns for the worse and the blob walks towards a castle and stares up intently at one the spires.

    Would anybody know what dragon quest this is? I also think I remember there being cucumber looking enemies! Also, if nobody knows, can you recommend which one I should buy her?

    I hope the post doesn't go against the rules of this subreddit.

    Hi there! In order to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the series with the community (and since my work for Rivals has come to an end), I decided to tackle a new project back in March: a complete English translation of the three-volume novel "The Legend of Rubiss" known in Japan as Dragon Quest: Seirei Rubiss Densetsu and published by Enix in 1990. It's basically the origin story of Rubiss, promoted as canon material by Enix back in the days, and follows the events that led her to become a goddess.

    Most of the details you can find either in the dedicated post on the blog or in the preface of the pdf itself, so I won't dwell too much on that here. The first volume is already available: I will leave the links to both the blog (from where you can read/download it) and my Twitter account, where I talk about it and other stuff.

    I tried playing DQX before because I've always wanted to play it but I couldn't get past not understanding anything.

    Someone in r/jrpg said people here have some tips on playing it for English speakers though so I was just curious.

    I really want to play the game, and with the recent announcement I was going to give it another go in Japanese since the hope for an english release was dashed, so any advice is appreciated.
