Why do my characters level up a different times? Posted: 12 Aug 2021 04:31 AM PDT I'm playing dragon quest iii (on the switch) and I just thought it was weird that my characters all level up at different times even thought they're getting the same xp (none of my characters have died yet) do classes or personalities effect how much xp is needed to level up?because my hero is only after getting to lvl 9 meanwhile my theif has just got lvl 11. How much longer do I have in Dragon Quest XI S? Posted: 11 Aug 2021 09:19 PM PDT I assume a pretty long way, but I just made it to Dundrasil after beating Vince. How much longer? [link] [comments]
Dragon Quest XI, I give you my first (and possibly only) Platinum - spoilers within Posted: 11 Aug 2021 03:41 PM PDT I beat DQ XI. Hella beat it. It took me months, but I did it. And I gt my first and probably only trophy out of it, too. I had owned a DQ game before, but it was in my backlog. It was one of the reissues for the 3DS, I believe. Nothing big stopped me from playing it, I just bought it on sale and because I heard good things. JRPGs are pretty much my favorite genre. I was on Twitter and saw a tweet by a guy who mentioned his friend platinuming the game after hours and hours. I asked if the game was good, and he said "very" or something like that. So I saw it was on sale on Amazon, and here we went. The Good: -I liked the artwork and style. Reminded me of old-school 80s anime. -I love classic turn-based JRPGs, so this was naturally right up my alley. -I love that you can choose to engage bad guys or avoid, without having to fight every ten seconds. Very convenient. -I got a lot of game for not a lot of price. Some of this might be me being a /r/patientgamers person, but for about $20 I got 240 hours of playtime. -The surprising darkness of the story. A lonely mermaid committing suicide. The little girl (who's actually a grown woman, but still) dying. And the weird stuff like the pervy grandpa and boob massages. They brought a lot of unexpected nuance to the story. -Sylvando. He kind of reminded me of my favorite GoT character, Oberyn. Sylvando is a pretty flamboyant guy, but he's also tough, clever, brave, kind. I thought he was fantastic. The Eh: -I'm not a huge fan of the "yeah, she looks 11 but she's really 22" trope. I mean, at no point is Veronica gonna change back to normal? We've seen her do it in a couple of cut scenes. C'mon folks. At least if you're gonna do that, don't make a marrying option. -The story was not exactly mind-blowing. There's a great evil, wants to destroy and/or take over the world, you're the Chosen One who's good at everything and everyone loves you. I don't know, I think it'd be neat to have a JRPG with smaller stakes, like simply saving a single village from a threat. Having a villain be a human, maybe one that uses magic and creatures, but not "oh, he's just a puppet for Cthulhu." It was pretty cliche. -Some of the gaming order was a little odd. You get an amazing suit for Jade... literally as the last big thing you do. What's she gonna do, use it to flex on those little baby slimes roaming around outside Cobblestone? -The romance option didn't seem all that necessary. There's a little more passion in romance options in games like Fire Emblem. This one is just kinda... "hey neato, we're married! Let's eat ice cream." I'm not saying I need some kinda Dragon Age Skinemax throwdown... but let's maybe have some running storyline behind the romance. Maybe the Hero is torn between Gemma and Serena. Maybe he is fighting unbrotherly feelings to his "sister(?)" Jade. Overall, I enjoyed it. Definitely gonna get number twelve, whenever that comes out, and definitely gonna try to go back and play the previous games. Preferably on handheld systems like 3DS and Switch, since I travel(ed) a lot. Thanks for everyone who helped me with the last two trophies! [link] [comments]

The sheer tediousness of Dragon Quest V's casino. Posted: 11 Aug 2021 02:53 PM PDT I miss DQXI's casino so bad after this. I've save scummed for 3 days now just trying to slug my way towards the 50k chip metal sword but oh my god does this feel rigged. I mean I know it's a casino and all but you don't have to make the odds match the actual odds of real life slots. [link] [comments]
