Playing a Dragon Quest game for the first time ever and I was brought to tears within the first few minutes

Sandy was the name of my childhood dog who we had to put down just a couple months ago. I had no idea that the dog in XI would be named Sandy too, and it caught me off guard. Miss you girl ❤❤❤

Platinum Trophy. Such an awesome game, I loved every second of it. One of the most challenging trophies for sure.

Overall, DQ is a far stronger series than FF.

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 04:10 PM PDT

I've played most of the Dragon Quests (including the "Dragon Warriors!") between my nintendo, game boys, iPhone, and Playstations. I've also played a majority of the FFs across the same platforms.

DQ is just consistently good. Even the early games have stellar senses of humor and deep storylines (I'm constantly impressed with the one where you travel back in time... "Hand of the Heavenly Bride?"). DQ VII was for the longest time my favorite game on the planet. It's still amazing. I don't know why it's not as popular here in the USA as other RPGs... it absolutely knocks the socks off the competition. The only JRPG that I'd say is as impressive is Persona, which is very different.

I can't wait for the next DQ. It's always a huge deal to me when a new one is released. In the meantime, I may have to go back to the beginning and start again...!!

DQ8: Near Chateaux Felix and the seaside church I keep seeing this huge stone monument on top of a mountain that I can’t find a way to access no matter how hard I try. I can’t find any videos online about it so I was wondering if anyone would know what it might be?

Dragon Warrior II(US) Stars Crests and Eye of Malroth

    Posted: 11 Aug 2021 06:13 AM PDT

Getting these two items is a royal pain….yet this game is sooo much fun!! Having the water flying cloth saved my butt in the sea cave.

If anyone is interested, I'm playing through the entire game on my YT channel.

Which Dragon Quest game should I play next?

    Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:43 AM PDT

So my DQ journey started a long time ago with DQ VIII on PS2. Then, before DQXIS release, with DQ I, II and III on IOS. Then DQIV on DS. Third, DQXIS on Switch. Finally, DQ V.

How do I beat the Winter Queen?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:24 PM PDT

im about level 8 right now with the copper sword and that boneshard (forgot the name) for the cat. In total we do about 40 total damage. But she keeps healing and some of her attacks would do like 40+ damage to me. Any advice for this fight?

    Also, does decrease stack?

Weird thing I found in Gondolia

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:03 PM PDT

I was wondering around in Gondolia and I discovered something weird. On the northwest part between the central stage and the tower there is a bottom path with four alcoves, one lets you loop around to the other side and the other three have fences overlooking the water. The middle of the three has two rats in it and whenever I approach the rats they get an explanation point above their heads and come to my position.

Anyone have an idea as to why. I can't seem to interact with them in anyway.

Edit: I figured out what was going on. It was the Golden Claws. After taking them off the rats aren't effected anymore.

[spoiler] Just finished DQ 1, the Switch version. My first impressions here.

    Posted: 10 Aug 2021 02:30 PM PDT

Hello, a while ago I purchased DQ 1,2,3 cartridge for Switch. The advice in this sub was to play them in order.
I found DQ 1 as fun and as addictive as the other DQ games I played: it sucked a bit that the "Zoom" spell only worked to the main castle and not between cities like in the later games (I finished 4 and 11, I am stuck in 5 on the DS) but it was bearable.
I managed to finish the game without any guides, just on my own (the only two pieces of advice I requested from this sub were "play the games in order" and "you can toss warrior's ring". )
The main problems I encountered were (1) finding the mark of Erdrick (2) finding the sunstone This was a blocker for several days, after which I finally find the fellow in the inn who told me the location. Before I found him I was mistakenly examining the dungeon between mountains, I thought it was there, no luck (3) there was a long time in which I was trying to find Erdrick's sword before I built the bridge with no luck.
Beating the Dragonlord succeeded on first try, I was on level 26 (I did some grinding in the meantime when I did not know what to do).

    Just finished Act 2

    Posted: 11 Aug 2021 01:43 AM PDT

I finished Act 2 yesterday and I'm wondering what to do. I know the rest of the story starts at the tower and I know there aren't any missable things in this game so I don't HAVE to do anything in particular before going but I'm wondering if there is anything I SHOULD do. Also, I don't know if I'm under-leveled for Act 3 with my hero at 53 and the rest of my party ranging from 50 to 52. Btw : I'm playing Definitive Edition on Switch and I don't have any Draconian Quest options enabled.
