    Dragon Quest Timeline - (SPOILERS)

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 08:18 AM PDT

The Dragon Quest timeline has been a confusing topic for years, but I believe I have come up with an actual timeline that fits as many games in as possible.

So the timeline starts with Edwin's Story and then following onto Dragon Quest XI. Here it is made clear that the timeline splits into 3, The Timeline the Hero Wins at Yggdrasil, The Timeline the Hero Looses at Yggdrasil and The timeline Serenica returns to.

Firstly I believe that the timeline Serenica returned to had no actual impact on the overall story and the way things followed because as she was the keeper of time for so long, she knew the impact it would have if they defeated Calasmos and perhaps getting herself in a nasty time loop. So she instead went back to be with Erdwin, the person she loved and had not seen since the age of heroes so we can rule out that timeline leaving two.

The Timeline In Which the Hero Looses at Yggdrasil

In this timeline the Hero leaves the timeline and the only sword of light is broken and the sword of shadows going back with the Hero. I believe that the Sword of Lights tip was later forged into the Sword of Ramias leading us into the two monster games featuring Terry and Milly as kids then Dragon Quest VI, Then Dragon Quest IV, Then Tornekos Trilogy finally leading into Dragon Quest V.

The Timeline In Which the Hero Wins at Yggdrasil

In this timeline The Hero arrives from the other timeline to win at Yggdrasil. This causes a chain of events and he gains the title of Erdrick leading us into the world of Dragon Quest III. Now Dragon Quest III is connected to Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest VI and Dragon Quest VIII. The problem here comes from the connection to Dragon Quest 6 through cloudsgate castle which shows in both. However I believe that since both games take place in the world of Dragon Quest XI that there are two Cloudsgate Castles and because of the peace after the Hero Wins timeline, the zenithians never had much of an impact whereas the destroyed world without the Hero needed the zenithians. So that means that the link between DQVI and DQIII was never a thing.

But Dragon Quest III is linked to Dragon Quest VIII and I belive that this is a seperate world where Ramia has visited as she states at the end of Dragon Quest VIII that she came from a 'far off land' meaning that Dragon Quest III splits in two, one being the world of Dragon Quest and one being the World of Young Yangus and Dragon Quest 8

(This one is a stretch) So Dragon Quest III is obviously linked to Dragon Quest but yet again in Dragon Quest does the timeline split, Either the Hero joins the DragonLord or defeats him. If defeated it leads to Dragon Quest II but if Joined forces with it leads to Dragon Quest Builders. I fully believe that Dragon Quest Builders 2 takes place after Dragon Quest II and is not an alternate timeline. I also believe that Dragon Quest Builders is linked to Dragon Quest Builders 2 which is were I found my first problem. In Dragon Quest Builders 2 the hairy hermit talked about once being a great builder but has lost his powers, I theorise that the Builder from Builders and the hairy hermit are the same meaning that either the two timelines form back together or they are not the same and DQB is just a single game in the timeline. However I believe that they join back together through Hargon's illusionary world and him dreaming of an amazing builder and that builder from Builders 1 takes form. I admit this is a big stretch but either way Dragon Quest Builders One and Two are both spin offs and not too important.

We then follow Dragon Quest to Dragon Quest II then Caravan Heart that has Kiefer from Dragon Quest VII and takes place in the world of Dragon Quest II then meaning that Dragon Quest VII follows Dragon Quest II. Then after Dragon Quest 7 we have The Monster Joker Trilogy...

Now I know that alot of you will be confused at that but hear me out. We know that in Monster Joker you play on a bunch of islands and the only other game that has so many islands is Dragon Quest VII. However I also believe that after the Monster Joker trilogy we have Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest X. All three of those games we're developed at the same time and they were planning a "train trilogy" including DQ9, 10 and another game. I think that game was Monster Joker and if following the normal tradition then I think the trilogy timeline would be Monster Joker, 9, 10 which would fit into the timeline as Monster Joker takes place on islands like Dragon Quest VII. Finally Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest IX both talk on the Almighty and are less goddess based.

    Few things to note

-DQ4, 8 and 9 all take place at the same time because Stella, Ragnar and Torneko all apear in 8

-I have not taken the characters from 2,4,5,6,7,8 or swords appearing into account because that would ruin the timeline

-This means that the later games allow time travel as shown in DQ5 so anything past or maybe including 4, 8 and 9 may include time travel. While Time Travel is in 11, each timeline has already broken their time sphere.

-I think DQB2 follows DQ2 because Builders 2 is also on islands which follows nicely to DQ7, Builders 2 brings in people masked as monsters which shows in DQ7 and The 3 heroes already beat hargon and malroth, that happened.

I believe that there are still alot of unanswered question and I hope future games like DQ12 help fix these problems.

My Timeline may not be perfect to some people and I should make it clear this is all my opinion, your look of the timeline is allowed to be completely different. This is how I see it.

    Challenge Idea for DQ 11

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 12:27 PM PDT

Basically: I have to use only moves that use MP (as soon as I learn them that is)...

Basically I'm gonna allow myself to use basic attacks'n'all before I get my first spells, but before I do this I want to know if there are any roadblocks that make this impossible.

    Too many vocations help dq6

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 12:21 PM PDT

So I'm playing dq 6 for the first time and I finally got ro alltrades Abbey. (I've completed 7, 9 and 5 so I have an idea on the vocabs) I was wondering which vocabs I should start with. When I play dq we're there is different vocations I prefer each charcter to have a different class and no characters the exact same. Yes I know there is no perfect answer for this but since this is the way I want to play it what do you guys advise that I should use for each characters:

    Hero Carver Nevon Asylenn Milly

These are who I have so far which class should I start for each of these?

    Thanks!

Thinking of naming my first born son, Erdrick. Is this too cliche for naming a child based off a video game character and/or dumb?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2021 12:28 PM PDT

First born son will be of Hispanic decent. I seriously enjoy the DQ series and this name is something I say repeatedly throughout the day.

    Any thoughts?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 07:20 PM PDT

I have been looking for deals on 4, 5, and 7(already own 6) but I cannot justify paying what they are going for. And I understand the rare status they have keeps the prices pretty high. I decided to download the mobile versions of 4 and 5, but it got me thinking. With the release of the first three games on switch and the upcoming remaster of 3, is it possible SE could release the second trilogy for next gen consoles? Or do you think they are moving forward and this will be like the SaGa and Mana releases where they only did the first few games?

Something else that I was curious about: the reviews I've read about the mobile versions say they are the same as the DS releases, but only cost $15. Are the prices for physical copies high simply because of collectability? Seems to me the prices would drop at least a little since there is an alternative to getting the same experience. Or maybe I just don't get it.

What the next Dragon Quest Builders game really needs: A Portable Town.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 08:46 PM PDT

Imagine this: You're exploring the latest world in the plot, and you see this awesome metal gate. You've just made the tool needed to grab it, and yoink.

Then you immediately drop into your portable world, place it in your bistro entrance, increasing its production level.

Then pop, back to the world.

As you go, you occasionally get popup text bubbles from villagers inside your portable world - you can go to a quick status screen and see if there's anything you care about or want to dismiss for now. Villagers can also jump out if there's quests involving them, things to build or fights you set them to help with.

Behind the scenes, each of the levels would just have an area outside the 'skybox' where the portable level always stays in residence - so there's never any load times to swap to it.

Part of the progression system would be expanding the tiles and capability of your portable world.

I know there were similar aspects to the world sharing aspects of Builders 2 - but having those as a thing you're carrying around with you, integrated into gameplay just seems like it would fit the style of the game a lot more.

As a bonus, you could have little allusions to Terranigma, since it had similar mechanic.

Just an idea - I claim no ownership in case anyone wants to use it, and a 'Thanks' in any credits would be more than enough. I'd just like to see that kind of thing exist, since it would be awesome.

Curious About the Actual length of the DQXIS Demo

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 12:25 PM PDT

All the descriptions I've seen for it just say "10 hours" of game play. Does this demo have an actual hard stopping point like the demo from the original release? I was curious if it was possible to get to either credits within the demo.

I only ask purely out curious. I platinum'd the game on the PS4 back in 2019 and understand speed running the definitive edition completely defeats the point of ignoring all that extra side content, but when I saw the demo for it on Steam it crossed my mind since I know its possible to beat the game within 10 hours of game play.

Don't you think DQ11 is quite dark already?(Spoiler alert)

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:36 PM PDT

Don't you think DQ11 is quite dark already?

    I think it's darker than DQ6 and DQ7 and DQ8 espcieally.

Also I even think not less darker than DQ5 possibly.

(Hostage things in DQ5, very late part of part 1)

    Most darkest one partially

(Very very last part of 11)

    DQ11

    1. (Very very last part of part 1) The one who can be possibly be lord of shadow near future grabs (or torture
?) some bodys neck or chest?

    2. (during part 2, king colluquism?) Gloomivore reminds that again...

I wonder what will shows up in DQ 12 more if there's rumor it can be more darker than previous games.

Question about what version of DQXI to get

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:13 PM PDT

So I have PC, PS5 and a Switch, and i know that:
-The switch has the poorest version in framerate and graphic quality, but very good for a portable console
-The PS5 runs the ps4 pro version, with 60fps target rate and ocasionally stuttering
-The PC version is the best version of all (I have an RTX 2060, capable of 1080p-120fps+/1440p-60 fps).

So my problem is, the price tag in US. Currently in my country the PC version costs $40-45 (depending if steam or epic) $25 for the PS4/PS5 and $65-70 for the Switch one. I really want to have the portable experience, but is it worth double the price tag? Should I buy the PS4 and that's pretty fine, or do I go to the best experience overall?
