Dragon Quest VI is criminally underrated and underappreciated (SPOILERS) Posted: 24 Sep 2021 04:55 AM PDT I recently played the zenithian trilogy again (for the fifth time), and after having played those games so much and after having changed my mind so many times, i came to the conclusione that DQ 6 is the best of the trilogy for me. But why you may ask? DQ6 is notorious to be the black sheep of the entire series. Vague and underdeveloped characters, a non-linear story after Murdaw's death, and the "grindy" job system. Simply to me DQ6 has the vast majority of things that DQ4 and DQ5 have. It's a great adventure. You pass from the deepest oceans (All the explorations of the oceans of the Real World) to the tallest mountain (Destiny Drop). If the job system of DQ6 is grindy, then both DQ3 and DQ7 are grindy, especially DQ3 where you return to level 1 for each class change with the halved stats. The characters (except Carver and Nevan) have character development and complex backstories (Sorceria, the birthplace of Ashlynn, was first destroyed by Mortamor, then sealed by Gracos in the Dream's realm. Literally Ashlynn escapes from this double course and turn out that she loses her memories. Milly was a slave from Felonia with a tragic backstory with Terry, and so on.) DQ6 has a two big maps, a great adventure, and memorable and enjoyable characters. The Dread Realm, in comparison to the Nadiria of DQ4 and DQ5 stomps, and Mortamor has more development in comparison to Nimzo. Nimzo literally is carried by Ladja all the time. Dq6 suffers from a linearity point. Someone to truly appreciate the game has to explore and talk with all the npcs, and for the casual player is not easy. This game doesn't deserve to be the black sheep because it can compete with the other two of the triology Dq6 has the sense of adventure and diversity of DQ4 and a deep development like DQ5. Dq5 is the pinnacle of the plot that suffers from a gameplay point of view. A luck based recruitment system, a little world to explore and so little room of spells and ability to learn even with monsters. Dq4 is more balanced, but suffers from the non-chat team's response. I want to know your opinion as well. [link] [comments]
5 Spoiler Tips I learned from DQXI (FYI: For Fun) Posted: 24 Sep 2021 05:51 PM PDT 1) Never wear a Mardi Gras outfit 2) Don't give a tall buff guy a Sword… Give him an even BIGGER Sword 3) Grandpas should never go to an Archive let alone by themselves. 4) thieves with blue spiky hair are just as Dorky as You 5) Jesters are worse ring leaders than clowns Bonus: this is no relation to my gameplay Wink Wink [link] [comments]
My Rankings Of Each Dragon Quest Game (Except for 10)! Posted: 24 Sep 2021 10:19 AM PDT Everyone has their favorites, and their reasons for liking each game might be different from anyone else's! But what makes a game more fun is a subjective opinion. I'd love to see everyone else's rankings, but here's mine. 10 - Dragon Quest 2: Hoo boy. The one entry in the series I can confidently say I actually dislike. Way too grindy, almost useless companions, nigh-unjustifiable difficulty spikes... I played through it twice, and I don't plan to revisit it in any upcoming remasters. 9 - Dragon Quest 1: I still like this one! But it hasn't aged well. It's like a DnD campaign, except you're all alone and the DM is kind of checked out. Ambitious for its time, and still short enough to knock out over a lazy weekend. 8 - Dragon Quest 7: The best Dragon Quest game, this far down the list?! I know right? I understand this is a fan favorite. And I can see where everyone is coming from. But I never enjoyed it. It's a hundred hour endeavor, but only because the story drags you along with the pacing of a paralyzed snail. The story is separated into chunks for each piece of the world you get... but none of them were fun to me. You don't unlock classes until WAY too late in the game, which is a shame for such a robust and fun spin on the system. I just feel like there's too much backtracking, the world feels empty even after certain events, and it just never resonated with me. Absolutely adore the postgame though. 7 - Dragon Quest 4: On its own, perfectly serviceable. With the exception of a certain Merchant, you can get away with pretty much any party member you like and have a blast. The prologue is a tad too long, but it does a great job in getting you acquainted with your future party members. In the remake, you get an extra party member for the postgame. Said postgame is... meh. It does have a great superboss though. I would recommend the DS version for this one, as it genuinely adds a lot. 6 - Dragon Quest 6: I love this game. Of the Zenithian trilogy, it's the only one with a class system, and it does it stunningly. The characters are a bit one note, but hey, we get to recruit Terry and a dinosaur! That's enough for me. The postgame 'wish' after you defeat the superboss is also cathartic. Plus, you can fly around on a magic carpet. How cool is that?! 5 - Dragon Quest 3: Fantastic game, easily the best of the original trilogy by a country mile. Decent class system, massive world that opens up beautifully once you get the boat, and a soundtrack that wows even if you're playing the NES version. The story isn't anything out of this world, but it helps enhance some aspects of the game. It's simply marvelous, can't wait for the Octopath style remake. 4 - Dragon Quest 5: You almost never see games that follow your protagonist from his birth to his happily ever after. But that's what this game does. It's like playing through a super interactive visual novel. Your main choice is picking your wife, and that alone adds replayability to an already stunningly experience (even if it does go out of your way to guilt trip you if you don't marry Bianca). With the introduction of monster capturing to cap it off, this one is the best of the Zenith trilogy. 3 - Dragon Quest 9: Hot off the tail of Dragon Quest 8, I was surprised and dismayed to see the newest main entry on the DS. My fears were unfounded. Easily the best class system in the series. Bar none. It's not even close. Great story with a nice twist villain towards the end, and a lot of memorable locations. The Grottoes add so much to an already great experience, to boot. Super lengthy, but rarely does it feel repetitive. The only thing dragging it down is how Stella treats you early on. She gets a bit better though. 2 - Dragon Quest 11: I had high hopes, and Dragon Quest 11 exceeded most of them. Then S came out and exceeded ALL of them. 11 is a great game with a wonderful (if limited) soundtrack, and engaging story, and the biggest postgame in the series. It's an incredible game, well worth slogging through 15 minutes of playing as a stupid looking fish. Each character has a backstory, and in S, you spend time with each character for a while during the midgame, so you can see things from their perspective. Breaks the pace a bit, but it's a fun distraction. 1 - Dragon Quest 8: I experienced this game as a demo first. Absolutely blew me away. And then the actual game dropped. To this day it is one of the best games I have ever played, with the 3ds port lacking certain features (orchestral soundtrack) but gaining waaaay more content. Each character seems carefully crafted, the story is intense and intriguing with a few good twists, and the pacing is nearly flawless except for one tiny complaint right after the Dark Ruins, but that's fine. Monster catching, introduction of the skill points, huge story based postgame, multiple endings... it has it all. But what do you guys think of my rankings? And what are yours? [link] [comments]
PS4 - is it worth buying DQ11 definitive edition if I already bought the game before? Posted: 24 Sep 2021 09:46 AM PDT I haven't played it yet, it's still in my backlog. But the definitive edition is on sale now and I don't know if it's worth spending again. The main reason for me is the music, I'm not interested in the 2d mode. [link] [comments]

Luminary - Hero Build For Acts 1 and 2 Posted: 24 Sep 2021 12:48 PM PDT Hi, Going to be doing a replay with some Draconian Options on. Stronger monsters for sure, maybe no shopping. Haven't fully decided. I've beaten the normal game. My first playthrough I pretty much exclusively put my points in greatswords until I got Sword of Light. Sword Dance seemed pretty key for swords so I re-specced into that once I got the sword. Question for my replay though. I plan on using Greatswords again for the bulk of the game but thought I might build out the character different. I was pretty much all points in GS until last 3rd of act 2 but I barely used Frost Fangs, Gigacrash, or Gigasmash on my normal playthrough. On the other hand got a lot of mileage out of Cutting Edge, Helochopter, and Unbridled Blade. Had the thought that maybe building out Gswords for those three talents and skipping the crit talents since HC and UB can't crit and then going into Luminary for stat boosts would be just as, if not more, effective since I'm assuming STR boosts up the damage on those + the pep up on demand and 5% increase. Maybe pick up Zap for Lightning damage. Thoughts and/or has anyone built out their act 1/2 luminary like that? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Does DQXI have relationship management of any kind? Posted: 24 Sep 2021 08:54 AM PDT Does Dragon Quest XI have relationship management of any kind, not necessarily romantic? I've never played a Dragon Quest game so I'm not sure what to expect. [link] [comments]
Dragon Quest Anthology on Vita ? (hacked) Posted: 24 Sep 2021 01:41 PM PDT Was wondering if it's possible to play all DQ (from 1 to 8) on a hacked Vita with RetroArch. If you have some leads boyz, I'm interested 👀 [link] [comments]
Having a hard time getting into DQVIII Posted: 24 Sep 2021 11:03 AM PDT NO SPOILERS PLEASE I've been playing all of the DQ games lately and I've been loving it. I have not been having a bad time whatsoever and I absolutely do not think this is burn out. Now the only games I have left in the main series are 8 and 9. And I am just not enjoying 8. I just had Angelo join my party and it's just not gripping me. I know all of these games are a bit of a slow burn but in all the other games I loved the beginning of the adventure because they did such a good job making it seem like that-the beginning of something grand. This just falls apart for me. I don't think it is helping that I am playing on the 3DS. I have never been the kind of guy to care about graphics whatsoever when it comes to game, but my god are these models ugly. If I look closely I can see where the models begin and where the face animation begins and it really takes me out of it. Anyway, again no spoilers, but can anyone share just some nice things they like or love about the game? I know it's a lot of people's favorite and I was excited to see why, but I have lost motivation to pick it up. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Any way to move iOS saves to new phone for DQ2? Posted: 24 Sep 2021 04:23 PM PDT Hi all, I'm pretty deep into DQ2 on iOS, but I just got a new phone and don't want to start all over. Is there any way to export/import the save? TIA! [link] [comments]
Help with Dragon Quest IX leveling and vocations Posted: 24 Sep 2021 10:50 AM PDT So I just got going with Dragon Quest IX and just unlocked Alltrades Abbey but am finding myself a bit confused on how best to use this system. Switching vocations clearly has benefits like extra skill points but seems to actively punish you to the point where it almost doesn't seem worth the trouble. When I switch I go back to level 1 can't equip half my gear, half the time I can't use my previous weapon, and I can't even level up quickly by only changing one character because the game nerfs how much experience they receive from fights even if I do face higher level enemies with the other leveled up characters. All of this for extra skill points which is nice but just doesn't seem worth it compared to all the downsides and hassle. Am I missing something? Can someone explain how this is supposed to work? Or is it really just designed to be one giant chore in order to squeeze out some extra skill points? [link] [comments]
Should I play DQ IX on DS? Can I? Posted: 24 Sep 2021 12:38 AM PDT It's insomnia time here in the states! Hope someone in Japan is enjoying their late afternoon and able to help me out. I've slowly been making my way through the DQ games since COVID started. And while emulation is a great option, I hate playing on my computer or phone. I really wanted to experience the games as intended on their official hardware. I did the OG trilogy on Switch. And I've been shelling out frankly way too much money on secondhand DS copies of the rest of these games. I'm now on DQ XI, which I have already paid for in full. How playable is the game actually going to be without all of its original wifi features? I've already given up on lots of the social aspects, since no one carries a DS around anymore. And I don't need to 100% anything, I'm just looking to get from the beginning of the story to the end. Is that possible with just a cartridge and a DS? Or am I going to need to get an action replay as well? [link] [comments]
