After doing some research on the sales history of Dragon Quest XI through the years worldwide, I wanted to clear up some misinformation and explain how well the game sold here and in Japan overall. And why this is the best selling DQ ever in the West more than you think and the future is bright for Dragon Quest as a whole here in the West moving forward. Enjoy the post and tell me what you think.

Overall the original game, on PS4 and 3DS peaked at around 3.4 million and on the Vgsales site and GameDatalibrary it through the years peaked at 3.6 million sales today for the original release of Dragon Quest XI on PS4 and 3DS. So those sales stayed steady and only grew a little bit through the years since it blew up in Japan on its initial release. The rest of major sales from Japan after the DQ 11 initial boom there, was DQ XI S. Which boomed at 300k in its first week and by the end of 2019 made it to 463k sales on the Switch upon release as said by Famitsu at the time. In August 23rd, 2020 ending week, Famitsu said the sales of games that week in Japan as usual and Dragon Quest XI S sales on the Switch in Japan were 545,836 in late Aug 2020. By the end 2019 DQ XI S sold 460, 000 units. In December 2019, Dragon Quest XI was said to have sold 5.5 million copies worldwide, the PS4/3DS sales were probably still around 3.4 million copies at this point to simplify and make it easier and the Switch Japan release was at 460k. So doing the math Japan by the end of December 2019 sold 3.86 million copies of DQ XI and S included on release there to that point. Subtracting 5.5 million there and Dragon Quest XI with S included sold 1.64 million copies in the West by December 2019 in total outside of Japan alone. 1.64 million copies of Dragon Quest XI sold in the West by December 2019. Incredible huge numbers for DQ and the best sales of Dragon Quest in the West ever, and were not even done yet. It's 2021 now mind you. Now to keep going.

    https://twitter.com/dragonquest/status/1208024503831257088?lang=en

August 23, 2020 Famitsu said in the weekly and total sales of games that week, Dragon Quest XI S on the Switch sold a total of 545,836 sales on the Switch in Japan for DQ XI S. By this point in 2020 of August we can assume the original PS4/3DS release of DQ XI probably sold a total of 3.5 million copies now by this point. And literally a month later we hear that Dragon Quest XI has sold 6 million copies worldwide. The article below says from Gematsu on Famitsu weekly sales records, states that DQ XI S in Japan sold about 1,400 copies that week. So we can assume DQ XI S in Japan sells about a 1000 copies on average every week at this point in late August 2020 range and forward. So a literal month later, easily can assume DQ XI S in Japan went from 545,000 copies to 550,000 sold copies on Switch easily in a months time at that rate and sold that much in total average around September 2020, when the 6 million total worldwide sales was also recorded for DQ XI as a whole.

    https://www.gematsu.com/2020/08/famitsu-sales-8-17-20-8-23-20

    https://www.siliconera.com/dragon-quest-xi-and-xi-s-surpass-6-million-units-in-digital-and-physical-sales-worldwide/

So if we do the math at this point, with those numbers above and adding Japanese sales up and subtracting from 6 million. The Japanese sales at this point of time were about 4 million and 50 thousand sold copies in total in Japan by September 2020. These articles said Dragon Quest XI and XI S at this point in September 2020 range sold over a 6 million copies worldwide. So if we round the Japanese DQ XI and S total sales to 4 million sold, math in Sept 2020 and take the over 6 million sold worldwide sales numbers facts told to us. Then subtracting all that easily. That makes the Western Dragon Quest XI total sales to be over 2 million copies sold in the West, outside of Japan alone by the point of time of September 2020. That's amazing, and way more than Dragon Quest IX or Dragon Quest VIII ever did in the West, Dragon Quest XI's insane sales Western success easily surpassed them.

    https://www.rpgsite.net/news/10267-dragon-quest-xi-and-xi-s-surpass-6-million-in-shipments-and-digital-sales-worldwide

With obvious reasons being the PS4 version of the game, Steam release, and Hero in Smash representation and the free 10 hour demo helping too and Dragon Quest XI S release on Switch of course all helping to that. All these things and the marketing from Square and especially Nintendo mostly led to the amazing success were seeing here today. And Dragon Quest XI S even came to Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass? Of course it sold this much and did better today even though RPGs don't usually sell much on Xbox of course, it still helped I'm sure with DQ XI's exposure and reach along with the other things that mostly did it for its success more I'm sure. Nintendo always had a great relationship with Dragon Quest and Yuji Horii.

And now for the big one, the huge final sales it has today. Dragon Quest XI in total has sold over 6.5 million copies in sales worldwide. Truly phenomenal and amazing job and fantastic news to hear. This website says Dragon Quest XI sales peaked now to 4.2 million sales in Japan in total for the original XI and S. Which means if you subtract this, 2.3 million sales in total have sold in the West alone for Dragon Quest XI and S in total. Truly phenomenal numbers and amazing news to hear. We've come a long way and Dragon Quest will only get bigger from here with XII and its eventual release forward. The future is very bright for DQ, both in the West and East alike. I hope you enjoyed my analysis here and tell me thoughts on it all down below. Here are the links to everything for the final parts to it.

    METAL SLIME DQXI

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 02:41 AM PDT

Hi, I just started my first Dragon Quest (finished the demo two times for a stupid reason ) and i knew that the Metal Slime is the the one who keeps all the EXP. btw, in the last 2 hours i was casually playing and by sudden it appeared two of them outside of Gallopolis but they ran away and got a little mad hehe... and then I thought maybe i'll meet more so i kept running through Prestidigitator and caught another one but he attacked then ran away...... so i tried with another Prestidigitator and caught two of them and got that 4070 EXP and now i'm happy....

Just wanted to share it with you my first experience with the Metal Slimes

In DQXI act II, what is the best party?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 06:15 AM PDT

So, i just got Eight and am thinking about changing up my party. In act 1, I've been using Hero, Jade, Veronica and Rab for normal fight and switched Veronica for Sylv.

Any need to change it, or does this party do well in act 2? I heard that Serena should replace Rab, but i wanna ask here first. Thank you!

I feel like there should be more decent XP options besides metals. Nothing else feels worth fighting when this is an option.

Just wanted to give a big thank you to the mods of this sub.

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 03:43 PM PDT

I can't imagine what a nightmare the mod queue looks like right now and I just wanted to thank all the mods here for making this sub one of the only places where you can discuss Dragon Quest without it getting derailed with other topics. I've never really made a Reddit account before but after the sad news that happened I really felt a sense of community among the DQ fans who are grieving about it. So again thank you for making this a good place for DQ.

    Models from DQIX

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 11:06 PM PDT

Hey, I'm new here. I've been a fan of Dragon Quest since I was young, finding IX randomly and having been playing it for years (still haven't beaten it lol, but I've been at the last boss). I really love the style of the game, and even after playing a few other DQ games, it's still my absolute favorite.

I was wondering if anyone had been able to pull a few of the 3D models from IX and was able to export them? If not, then recreated them?

I've been recently learning Blender, and I recently wanted to create some things in the style of IX, but finding the right kind of references and materials to study is insanely hard. I own a physical copy of the game, but even in-game with the Monster Bestiary (I think that's what its called) on my DS just doesn't feel like its enough. Does anyone have any ideas? If not I'll just try to keep using the Bestiary

anyone else feels like the "in-vince-ibles" storyline is a bit fishy?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 03:27 PM PDT

    this is a mild spoiler

rab and jade and the general public state that fighters go missing for years during the tournament and later we learn that vince delivers fighter to a monster spider so its safe to assume that the spider would eat them which in turn would make vince a serial killer however rab is instantly willing to forgive him because he did it for the orphans?!

i mean ok there were plenty of cocoons hanging from the ceiling but still, YEARS have passed so even if the spider just hoards the fighters to sqeeze a little juice from them, they would be dead by now!

also i find it sad that the game didnt explain why rab and jade were allowed to bypass the rules for the tournament, at first i thought they were undercover police or something but later they stole the price so... i am a bit disappointed in that story line :(

Here's my review of the first Dragon Quest as a noob to the series.

my main character is no longer grateful?!

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 01:43 PM PDT

hi, when i started to play the game i noticed that whenever my MC loots a chest he would "gratefully" put the item in his bag but nowadays he simply puts the items in his bag with no sign of gratefulness xD

whats up with that? i constantly say NO to every story decision, might that be the reason?

everyone getting character development scenes and jade gets subject to fetish material (rant kinda)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 10:03 AM PDT

this is one thing i can't stand about 11. even in general, jade gets horny powers because she's attractive but none of it fits her actual personality, which is serious, reserved and will kick ass to protect her loved ones. absolutely just shoehorned on for lazy sex appeal. i like women, i understand that she's hot but it's actually fucking embarassing.

finding our party again in act 2 gives us lots of development and backstory for everyone. except jade. clearly someone on the team had a hypnosis fetish and/or an "ugly bastard" fetish because what the fuck was that. playing that section subjected me to extreme levels of cringe, unsafe levels of cringe. i couldn't even enjoy vampire jade because there was this big fuck off r*pe monster poopenfarting about the place. the disrespect on our girl jade? not an ounce of emotion to be felt except"ew". did they run out of ideas? i know she had already been given some backstory, but everyone else had also had focus already and yet they still managed to give them impactful and important scenes. "haha hornyyy oh BOOBY heehee bunny girl WOAH guys keep looking at the screen BUTT BOUNCE uhm. no there's no time for development HORNYYY horny monster!!!"

i think they did a similar thing with jessica dq8, shoehorning on sex appeal skills when it didn't fit her personality at all, but imo they really upped the shitshow for 11. do they know women can be attractive without making sex appeal a core trait?

okay rant over. making horny old men illegal and putting them in the bear cube

edit: i think her part should've focused on her guilt over dropping the mc as a child. we'd been introduced to that struggle of hers but it wasn't explored very much. maybe a scenario where she has to help children? but it ends with her exhausted and she learns that it's okay to lean on others and she can't do everything herself.

How will Dragon Quest's music change now? Do you think Toriyama and Horii will end the series out of respect?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2021 03:15 AM PDT

My condolences to Koichi Sugiyama's family, friends and fans. Will they continue to make Dragon Quest games without the man behind the music, or do you think they'll find someone else? Keep in mind, Dragon Quest isn't like Final Fantasy where the series has a revolving door policy when it comes to directors, artists and music.

Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama speaks out about the death of Sugiyama!

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 12:52 PM PDT

Horii basically said that he is very sad about the news and Sugiyama made great music for 35 years and we will never forget the music you did. Once again, thanks for everything!

Toriyama says he is suprised about the news since he always thought he was in so good shape and that Sugiyama wrote masterpieces which cant be denied. And concluded with:It was an honor to work with you and we will pray for you.

Meanwhile.... jrpgs fans on reddit finding out he died: "He said some things I dont agree with !!!!!" no kidding thats what they responded with.

Are there any game similar to the Dragon Quest Monster series?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 11:14 AM PDT

Just wondering if anyone knew of any decent games that were similar to the monster series. I recently saw Monster Crown on the Nintendo eshop and it reminded me of the monster games. Sadly I looked into it Monster Crown a little bit more it seems to be more like Pokemon which is a bit of a disappointment.

    Thanks
