    [spoiler] a DQ3 "Zoom" question

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 04:02 AM PDT

Hello, now playing the Switch version of DQ 3: I got the ship and now I explore the world, managed to kill Orochi and got a sphere from that. I got to several new places, but they do not show up in the "Zoom" menu: for example it's the pirates' hideout, or the village "at the end of the world": the last item in the "Zoom" menu is Jipang, even when I discovered those several new places - is this intentional, or did I hit some bug in the game? Thanks, please no spoilers.

Does this bug exist in the JP version as well?

Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart - Questions and Thoughts

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:30 AM PDT

So I finally broke down and started playing this game after years of avoiding it due to the criticisms you always see about it. The monsters series is what turned me into a DQ fan, so I wanted to give this one a chance. I've just made it to Chapter 3 and have collected around 10 monster hearts, and I'm getting a bit annoyed that I can't reform any of my monsters yet with the hearts. I'm like 5 hours in, and at this point, I would've thought I'd be making new monsters by now. I've just met the professor, but does anyone know when I can start reforming monsters? The game has been somewhat entertaining so far - I tend to hate the ration system though and keep the merchants in my wagons in order to keep up with the money demand for rations. I thought I'd hate having the human party members involved, but it's been actually kind of fun to customize the wagons with all the new recruits you find. It bothers me that you can't explore towns in typical DQ fashion, but I was able to accept and adapt to that. I also really love the random events that happen - feels super Dragon Questy and nostalgic. My only two real complaints are the ration system and the fact that I feel like I'm far enough along in the game that I should be utilizing the hearts I'm finding to make new monsters. Also, I'd like to rename my monsters like you could in the first two DQM games, but not sure if that comes later too? Either way, I will definitely keep playing, and I'd recommend you give it a shot if you were hesitant like me.

Does Anyone Know How to Get Ahold of Koichi Nakamura?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2021 09:28 AM PDT

With the recent, unfortunate passing of Koichi Sugiyama I realized that all of my idols are getting to the age where their lifespan is becoming less and less certain. Koichi Sugiyama will be sadly missed and I wish more people were talking about his contribution to the JRPG genre.

That having been said, I feel that when people pass, they sometime take knowledge that only they know with them. Koichi Nakamura, for me, may very well be one of those people. I have a question for him that I suspect only he can answer.

Does anyone know of any way whatsoever that I can ask him just one question that has been plaguing my mind for 35 years? Like a direct email address, or anything? I know this is a weird thing to ask...but I don't want to see another one of these heroes to pass in my lifetime (something I know is unrealistic) and I really want my question answered before he passes as well.

Need help figuring out which version of mainlines to play

    Posted: 07 Oct 2021 10:14 PM PDT

I just started Dragon Warrior on the NES and am liking it so far. I opted for it over later releases due to reading they make it easier and that there's no content differences (I like old game jank/grinding and don't necessarily care for QoL).

When it comes to further entries, which games would I be missing content/story out on if I went for the earliest English localization? I always gravitate towards earlier releases for reasons above but if there's story/neat content I'd be missing out on I'd more than likely gravitate towards those versions.

Thank you and I hope my question was clear enough!

I’m late to the news but RIP Koichi Sugiyama…

    Posted: 07 Oct 2021 07:45 PM PDT

I was working on a post talking about how Dragon Quest has affected me personally but then this happened….I'll just get this out there anyway out of respect. I'm a new Dragon Quest fan. I became a fan around January of last year when I played XI but since then I went on and played the other games in the series and it was some of the best experiences I had in my life…most of it was due to the incredible score of each game. Koichi Sugiyama's music are works of art and touched me deeply when I was playing. His work on Dragon Quest V will always be my favorite in the entire series….Sugiyama helped created an entire genre that many gamers, including myself still enjoy today. His work on the Dragon Quest games will not go unnoticed…RIP Koichi Sugiyama…you are and will forever be a legend!

How does DQ VI's vocation system actually work?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2021 07:30 PM PDT

I picked this game up and recently unlocked altrades abbey. I've played DQIX's vocation system but this one definitely works differently. What I understand is: Better vocations are locked behind combos of easier vocations. Mage+priest both mastered let's you start sage. When you complete a battle you gain a flat increase to your vocation progression. The difficulty of the battle does not increase the progression you gain from it Different trades have different required amounts of battles.

Things I don't understand. What is the cut-off of no longer being able to gain progression from a battle that's too easy? How quickly am I expected to progress through vocation? At what point is it better to swap out of a vocation to begin levelling a new one. What vocations best suit the various party members?
