OMG - First time playing it and I'm in love, this game is marvelous, a masterpiece.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 04:05 PM PST

Hello there. I just want to share my experience. I am a 34 year old male and I am playing Dragon Quest XI (first DQ game) and at first I thought... Well... this seems so unbelievably childish "Maybe I am the wrong crowd for this game?" "Maybe they aimed for another public and I shouldn't be here or playing it? My fault. I'm too old. :C"... The enemies looked silly at first but around 15 hours in I can't believe how relaxing, therapeutic and healthy this game has become. And the childish tone is actually part of this greatness. This game is magical, it relieved so much stress. And made me stop caring if I am 34 years old, or 15, or any age... It just made me a kid again, or an ageless person in a magical world.

I started playing with "Stronger monster" + "No exp from weak enemies" and this makes the game more fun to me because I take my time and pace, and explore everything, talk to all NPCs after every major event and I don't mind going slow even if I finish 100+ hours (that's what I actually enjoy in JRPGs LOOONG GAMES). This game is incredibly enchanting and sucked me in to its world in a way I didn't feel in so many years. I'm in awe. Have no words how beautiful this game is, and I feel I barely started! (15 hours in).

Who is your favorite Dragon Quest character?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2021 04:08 AM PST

For me, it's Sylvando. I like how sassy and flamboyant he is.

Just got these two for a deal of $70 usd for both together. Was it a good deal? Which should I play first? (Does it not matter story wise or is there a connection like I II and III)

Rankings from a Zoomer who blind marathoned all these games over 1.5 years of quarantine

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 07:13 PM PST

Title is pretty much all the context you need:

    11) DragonQuest II. It kinda just exists. It's fine, but it's a bit of a middle child. Still better than Final Fantasy II, I hate that game. For context I played the Switch version.

    10) DragonQuest VI. Again, another middle child IMO. DQV is legendarily good, and DQVII ended up being a brilliantly epic one IMO. This one? It's great, but it's sandwiched between two better ones for me.

    9) DragonQuest. The original. And honestly? It holds up really well. In many ways, I find this game easier to replay than some versions of Final Fantasy 1 (Though not the PSP version. Which still has never been ported. Frick you Square). It's just a really simple, relaxing RPG that was great for unwinding. I played the SFC version of this with a fan translation. I was gonna play the Switch version, but the spritework just looked awful to me.

    8) DragonQuest X. This might be near the top of the list if it could be localized. But I was persistent, I had a Hiragana chart and a list of Kanji ready. And I still had no idea what was going on. But I had a lot of fun with it! Unfortunately I've hit a wall with my meager translation abilities so, I'm gonna have to learn more Japanese before going further. Seriously though, localize this game Squeenix.

    7) DragonQuest IX. Another one that could be higher if it weren't for external circumstances, in this case the shutdown of DS Wifi. Cause I would have LOVED to play this co-op, the game clearly had that mentality. It was still a lot of fun solo, but I feel like I was missing out so much.

    6) DragonQuest IV (DS version). This was a really good one, though it has, again, kind of a middle child complex (Although far less than 2 and 6 IMO). It's still fantastic, and it was a great way to introduce a new type of world for the new trilogy. I also just love the 2D sprites-on-3D-world style. It's super charming.

    5) DragonQuest VII. This was the longest one, and in many ways I can see why some might not like it. But again, I NEEDED a long epic quest for the pandemic. I ended up also going with the longer PS1 version because I liked the art style more, but after a little bit of experience with the 3DS version, that is what I recommend.

    4) DragonQuest V (DS version). The one that brought me to tears with its focus on family. My favorite story of the series. And gameplay-wise, it was great too. An absolute classic.

    3) DragonQuest III. This is where I truly fell in love with the series. This is without a doubt, the best RPG from the 8-bit era I've ever played. It is a stunning game that managed to genuinely shock me at times with its storytelling. In fact, I'd say start here. It is the perfect place to begin, with a tight short pace but enough to get sucked into. I played the GBC version for the extra content, but I've since gone and played the Switch version, which is pretty good too. Can't wait for the HD 2D remake either.

    2) DragonQuest XI. Objectively, this is the best one. Hands down. It's basically DragonQuest presented at its most refined. It's incredibly charming, well-paced, and fun. But it's slightly beaten out by...

    1) DragonQuest VIII. This is now my favorite turn-based RPG of all time, a position previously held by Final Fantasy X (Which I grew up with, so I have a huge nostalgic connection to it). It is perfect. I played the 3DS version with an Orchestral Patch first, but I've also gone back and played the entire PS2 version. I can't get enough of this game.

[MAJOR Spoilers] [DQ XI S] So, about a certain boss fight...

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 12:35 PM PST

So, you know the fight with jasper at Ygdrasil right where his orb makes him have 9 mill.+ evasion? I was wondering: What exactly would happen if you turned on a cheat that made the effect of jaspers orb of darkness null and void, and one shotted him before he could do any REAL damage to you?

How much gold is amped up Jasper worth?

How much EXP does amped up jasper get you?

Would his death animation be recycled, or slightly different thanks to the orb?

DQ XI: Why is it so hard to find for the Switch?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2021 09:19 AM PST

A few months ago I ordered the physical copy from Best Buy, but the package got lost in transit and was never found or delivered. When I tried to order it again, it was sold out and has been since then!

This was super disappointing, since I try to get the physical versions of games when I can, and I nearly had this one in my grasp. But why is it so hard to find? It's not that old, right? It's available for the PS4 and XBox, so I'm confused...

    Thanks.

    Question about Pepper Army

    Posted: 09 Nov 2021 02:51 AM PST

For the Accolade «Pepper Army» in DQXI, do I also need to witness every pep power performed by monsters in the game or is it enough to just perform every pep power that your party can do?

Does anyone know about the glimpses of personality Eleven has in Dragon Quest XI mentioned through Party Chat?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 10:02 PM PST

I haven't played the game in a while, even though it was just the chunky demo, but it was still a very enjoyable experience and I can't wait to play the rest one day. I am asking this because I am making a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fanfic and want to include Eleven but need to figure out how he is like to try to be accurate to him without making him completely silent. And the personality summaries on the wikis didn't help much.

[Spoilers] [DQ XI S] [Mod request on nexus forums] All Shops offer EVERY item.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 04:52 PM PST

A simple request that all shops in DQ XI S offer literally every item.

Think of it as an legit new game + mode, where you can buy everything for everyone in your party as soon as you have access to the cobblestone store. All shops, regardless of type: Will offer every item in the game.

    Swords? You got it.

    Recipes? You know it.

    Costumes? Of course!

Consumables and misc like daemonds? Yup!

Unused / cut items? Right on the money.

Key items / keys: Sure, pesky magic locks will be snuffed out with this: No more needing to bolt to Phnom Noh and doing an extra lengthy dungeon for the magic key. Though I DO advise that, if possible: make the colored orbs buyable, and if so one chooses: Blitz to aboria and slot them in to blitz the game.

Let's see how many sequence breaks the game can account for for an any% run and really stress test it's limits.
