DQ11: Earliest you can switch to 2d?

I have really bad motion sickness when it comes to 3d Games and DQ11 is no exception sadly. I was wondering what's the absolute earliest I can switch to 2D mode?

I just finished the introduction of climbing the rock in the beginning and I can't change to 2D at Cobblestone town in the church.

I played a lot of rpgs in my life and i can say that dragonquest is a series i ignored for a very long time. i played dragon quest 11 a while ago but didnt finish it. Not that i didnt like it but other things grabbed my attention. I dont really see the special thing in it. Yes the design is very unique but the music and story isnt that special compared to other rpgs. Its typical turn based combat. I dont say that it has not its charm but why do people love especialy THIS seres so much. Is it really the charm? Is it the story they tell because DQ 11 has some nice little sidestories to tell like the coward prince or the mermaid. So, what exactly is it that makes this series so popular exepcialy in japan?

Was debating playing DQ8 while i wait for the DQ3 HD-2D remake to come out, what's the best way to play it that's not excessively prohibitive (i.e. tracking down the appropriate console, etc).
