Posted: 30 Jan 2022 04:29 AM PST Is there an in-game World Map for Alefgard (underworld)? Haven't come across it, and would have thought it's something you'd pick up by simply progressing the game. [link] [comments]
Mainly out of curiosity: was DQ 10 any good? Posted: 30 Jan 2022 07:28 AM PST I doubt I will get the chance to play it, or that it would be online if I did. But I heard the guy who made FF14 good made it, so I guess I was curious about it and wanted to hear more. Or seee some gameplay in English. I dunno. [link] [comments]
Do the missions get more interesting in Dragon Quest Heroes? Posted: 30 Jan 2022 10:20 AM PST I've played the game for a couple of hours, and it seems like every mission feels the same. Personally, what I loved about Hyrule Warriors was that every level was a giant, constantly moving war where you capture outposts and whatnot. It was fun, and it felt like the battlefield was constantly alive. All I wanted from Hereos was this but Dragon Quest, but it seems to be just the repetitive killing of monsters without much more of an objective than kill all things. Just for example, the giant cyclops fight was boring as hell as all you did was wail on a slow-moving target for like 10 minutes. I've been having a hard time wanting to really play more. Does the game get more interesting? Or should I just drop it? I also have Heroes 2, which I hear is a bit different. Should I try that one instead? [link] [comments]
Is DQ11 possible without any weapons? Posted: 30 Jan 2022 06:28 AM PST I did many challenges in this game and I got an idea. What about doing game without equiping any weapon at all? Spells can be used but wands and any catalysts to boost power cannot be used [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:36 AM PST I just finished DQ III and I have to say that it is a huuuuuge step up from DQ II. I didn't need a guide throughout the playthrough and also really enjoyed the flow that the game had. It really feels more like a modern JRPG and that was great. Now I get why people say this game has tons of replay value. All the combinations of characters you can have is weird ahaha The series just continue to improve and I can't wait to play the DS games [link] [comments]

DQIX: Falcon Slash or Blind Man’s Biff? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:39 PM PST I was just fighting a boss and I used Blind Man's Biff at max tension with Oomph…and let's just say I did stupid amounts of damage. Like, Final Fantasy levels of damage. This got me thinking, though: is Falcon Slash better than BMB? FS does 2 hits at 75% damage, while BMB does one hit at 150%…so it seems like they should do the same amount of total damage. I guess there's two things I'm wondering about FS: can one (or both) hits do critical damage? Also, do the effects of tension and Oomph apply to both hits? Are there any other factors I haven't considered? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:53 AM PST Dragon Quest IX seems to be almost universally adored, particularly in this sub. In no way do I mean this to be inflammatory, but I have to ask: why? I played it when it first came out and thought it was ok, but was glad to put it down after the main story (which I also found kind of mundane) and not participate in any of the more grind-heavy aspects of the game. Overall, I feel like I surely must have missed something with this entry to see so many people frequently including it in their top-3's or top-5's. For my part, my favorite entries in the series are 5,8 and 11, which all had a much heavier emphasis on characters and narrative, so perhaps that is the issue. Did you love 9? If so, what draws you to it? [link] [comments]

My personal issue with Dragon Quest Posted: 30 Jan 2022 02:25 AM PST I don't really know where to start, obviously I'm a fan of the series, otherwise I wouldn't be here. I have to say, I'm 22 now and I didn't grow up with DQ, Pokémon was my Childhood. DQ IX was my first game of the series and I got it when I was 11 I think. I absolutely love it to this day and obviously it made me curious about the other games. I watched a playthrough of DQ VIII and later finished DQ V and played DQ VI and Monster Joker 1 too. The issues I have are just that I don't feel nostalgia for the old games. I personally can't really hype up myself to play the Erdrick triology. I don't know if that makes sense but I want to like the games, I just can't. They feel old but not like Pokémon Emerald, which is still playable today, they feel outdated to me. I really want to play all the games to get a proper opinion but I feel like anything older than DQ IV won't be fun, even DQ VI was kinda meh, maybe it's because I started with IX which looks and feels way more modern. Is there any advice you can give me? I really don't want to hate on any of the games, I just wanna understand why they're great and appreciate them. [link] [comments]
Anyone else think DQ11 should’ve ended after Act 2? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:05 PM PST Ever since I played DQ11 I've thought this and I just wanted to see if anyone agrees. I mean I think it would've been the perfect book end to the game. You gather your party, go fight the big bad, lose and lose Veronica in the process, BAM darkest hour, but we're the hero so we persevere, regather our party while they get massive character development, we go fight the big bad one more time and win, we loved and lost, The End. But then… it's just kinda… keeps going. You leave this timeline to go to a different timeline to… IIRC save Veronica but the original timeline still exists so your not really saving anyone she's still dead. Not to mention none of your companions went through any of their developmental quests so they've just been reverted to blander versions of themselves. Specifically I really liked serana's arc of dealing with losing her sister and becoming Serenica, but you dip on this timeline and then serana's just back to normal. Lame. So yeah, I just like to headcannon that the hero never went did the time shenanigans and just lived happily ever after in his own timeline. [link] [comments]
Bonus dungeon in the post game worth it? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 04:45 PM PST I've been doing some metal slime grinding and my party is now high 70s - low 80s and I'm thinking about trying to tackle Drustan's labyrinth and trials. From those who have completed this dungeon, about how long does it take and would you consider it worth it? Am I at a good level to try and tackle it? Please let me know any details or advice you would consider useful. Thanks! [link] [comments]
DQ5: language trivia: names origin Posted: 29 Jan 2022 04:13 PM PST Somewhere during the game you meet those two thugs named "Kon" and "Slon" - at least those are their names in the DS version. As a matter of fact, "slon" means "elephant" in both Czech and Slovak and as for "Kon", it appears to mean "horse" - in Czech "horse" is "kůň" and in Slovak it's "kôň" which is totally identical to "Kon", when you ignore accents in the letters (which alter pronounciation). That means Czech, Slovak or another Slavic language is the place where the creators of DQ5 probably got their inspiration. [link] [comments]

A question about sellma's shop Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:08 PM PST I recently picked up the game again and discovered that I could access the DLC quests by using the DNS exploit thing, which is great, however after trying a few times to check sellma's shop 2 days in a row she says that she doesn't have anything to sell. Apparently she will only sell things in US and JP game cards? If that's the truth then what am I missing out on? I hope it's not something too important! [link] [comments]

how dark is DQXII going to be? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:27 PM PST upon finishing xi, and while i love it to death, i realized how i'd have been ok with suffering some casualties. now having played every DQ game, i'm just excited for the next entry, and hearing yuji horii describe it as an "adult dragon quest" is making me even more excited. but what do y'all think that means? will we finally see puff puff portrayed as it was initially intended and not as a running gag? will party members finally be able to say 'fuck'? seeing how our actions will affect the outcome of the game (possibly will lead to different endings), part of me wants to believe it will cause party members to leave or might even cause their death and we can't revive them. what y'all think?
