My open letter to the Dragon Quest XI Casino

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 07:49 AM PDT

Hey Dragon Quest, how is it going? Hear you have been getting more popular in the west, thats good. You are a great game but I need to ask you something (A Dragon Request, if you will). You need to be more generous with your casino. There I said it. So Dragon Quest XI, you are such an amazing game, so much so that I really want to 100% the game. Looking through the requirements it looked like a good time, except for the casino. Looking online people said that getting all the accolades in the Casino was "RNG Hell" but I wasn't scared. I knew the risks going in. What everyone said was the hardest part was getting a Royal Jelly Flush, a Royal Flush in the Slime suit. I knew it was going to be difficult but I walked into the casino with 2,000,000 tokens and hope in my heart. But after 5,000 games of poker its getting hard to continue on. Listen Dragon Quest, I know in real life the chances are 1 in 2,598,960 but you are a video game. You know what cards I'm getting. You know how many games I've played. You could give me the Royal Jelly Flush whenever you want and release me from the casino. I have other quests to go on. There is a great evil plaguing the land and I can't go stop it until I'm done with all the casino accolades. Not only that but I got other games to play. Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokémon Sword and Shield are right around the corner and I already have a backlog of other games. So Dragon Quest XI, this is my plea to you to please give me a Royal Jelly Flush and release me from your casinos so I can experience the rest of your game.

Dragon Quest 11 S How Long do I have left?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 07:12 AM PDT

I am in Hotto in Act 2. How many hours do I roughly have left if I am mainly just going through the story?

I take issue with Rule 7 of this subreddit.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 06:51 PM PDT

If we ruled half the world we could probably make that half very nice. Plus it's speciest to the monsters.

    DQ 4-6 location help

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 10:31 AM PDT

I went to my local game stop a few minutes ago to see where the closes DQ ds game ( specifically 5) is and the person said there arent any in a 100 mile radius. a bit disappointed I looked at amazon and ebay and man those prices are stupid high!. I then went to the apple phone store and they each sell around 14.99 which is decent sure but I want the ds games physically. So does anyone know where I can get these games at a reasonable price?

Rab vs Serena (Kacrackle vs Kaboomle)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 09:11 AM PDT

I want to use Rab but I heard Veronica does better AoE damage. Question is, both of these spells seem to be comparable, with kacrackle actually having a slightly higher cap? Not taking about Magic Burst. Just assuming both the casters have 800+ MM, won't Rab's Kacrackle best our Veronica's Kaboomle making him better for trash/farming?

I accidentally gave Erik a skill point even though his skill tree is already complete, and I meant to give it to Sylvando. Is there any way to undo this?

    How I finished DQXI underleveled

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 08:13 AM PDT

I'm pretty new to JRPGs in general, and I have never been a fan of grinding. And because of the fact that you can avoid any battle, my party was pretty underleved, about 5 to 15 levels. When I was about half way through the game, I couldn't really just brute force my way through, so I needed a strategy. I don't know if this is a commonly used strategy or not but...

Here's what I did to beat almost every boss:

Use the characters Hero, Hendrik , Sylvando, Rab. It would take usually a turn or two to set up, so Hero would be a healer if necessary. Sylvando would oomphle Hendrik, Rab would use sap, and Hendrik would use kabuff. Then the next turn, Hero and Rab would heal, Sylvando would either attack or acceleratle, and then Hendrik would use unbridled blade with a greatsword. The mix of oomphle, sap, maybe the power of pep and the power of unbridled blade would add up to about 500-1500 damage. Just do that a couple of times, reapplying buffs or healing if necessary, and the boss is dead.

I hate that it works, but at least I didn't have to grind. I was able to finish the game with everyone around level 70. No level 99 baby, not today!

Dragon Quest XI S: Question about visiting past DQ worlds

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 08:09 AM PDT

Hello! I just bought Dragon Quest XI S after completing the demo, and I'm wondering how 2D mode works. My plan so far is to play the game entirely in 3D mode, then entirely in 2D mode in a second playthrough. But trailers showed 2D mode allows you to visit past DQ worlds, which presumably don't have a 3D counterpart.

So, what rewards do you get by visiting past worlds? Should I visit these worlds on my 3D mode playthrough or save it for my 2D mode playthrough?

How to make Jade good? (DQ11S)

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 03:01 AM PDT

I'm about 50 hours in and i got Jade back into my party, yet she still feels lackluster. I've been investing my skill points in Spears mostly and the rest for allure. And yet most of her damaging abilities struggle to do good damage without buffs or debuffs on the enemy. Is there something i could do to make her better in battle?

Sudden realization: DQ11's easy digital availability put it in an unique situation for the franchise.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2019 02:19 PM PDT

Sure... before anyone raise those points, we have mobile phone remakes of previous games. But these remakes are A: on mobile phones(not the platform of choice for traditional-leaning gamers) and B: still came years after their original release.

But unlike previous gens, DQ11 and DQ11 S have released right away on platforms that perform digital purchases.

Originally, with DQ7 on PS1, DQ8 on PS2, DQ9 on DS.... even if you heard about word of mouth about the franchise, if your local stores didn't have any copies(used or otherwise) left, you were generally out of luck. Or had to go through online stores shipping process that wasn't always as mainstream friendly than it is today in the days of Amazon's near monopoly on this.

With DQ11/S... even if the stores run out of copies 1 year from now? People just getting into the franchise then can still... simply digitally purchase it straight from the store they can access straight from their console of choice(PC/PS4/Switch).

This means that even a lukewarm release doesn't mean the end for the game... and that the community has all the reasons to spread awareness of the games through word of mouth and so on. Because the ability to recruit new fans to the game isn't limited anymore to just release day but also the entire lifespan of the game(or at least, the entire time the online eshop will be accessible... which is still a whopping long time).
