Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:19 AM PDT I used to love JRPGs, but over the years I kind of stopped caring about them. Too many of them were going towards being more interactive movies with tediously long cut scenes. I guess that is kind of true for games in general and why my interest in video gaming has waned over the years. I have played a few of the older Dragon Quest games, but not that many of them. The only one that I remember beating was Dragon Warrior on the NES a really long time ago. However, I decided to try out the Switch demo for 11 since it looked like a really old school JRPG and I loved it. Last night, I beat the true final boss after more than 75 hours of playing the game. This is my favorite game of this decade. It really captured a pure sense of epic adventure and fun that is sadly missing from most modern games in any genre. It really feels like a game from the 90s made with modern technology. I am intending to play through I-IX, but maybe not in that order. I have already started playing the Switch port of I and it is really good. I'm hoping IV-VI come out for the Switch soon so I can play them on a big screen instead of a mobile device. I already miss the world and characters of XI, but I am excited to play through I-IX. I just wanted to thank Dragon Quest XI S for recapturing my love for JRPGs as well as video games in general. My Thoughts on the definitive edition of Dragon Quest 11 [ACT 3 SPOILERS] Posted: 29 Oct 2019 05:27 AM PDT I 100% the PC version of XI with all accolades before XIS came out, and I'm about half way through XIS's act 3. Honestly, I think I like the two versions about equal, instead of prefering XIS like I expected I would. The switch version's new content is great, tokkles, new costumes and the various QOL changes all are much appreciated. Unfortunately I think some of the QOL changes make the game worse. In particular, being able to buy materials directly from the forge. This was a ... poorly implemented feature. It doesn't take into account if you can actually buy that material at that point in the game. This means, aside from like... 10 materials that can't be bought, there is no point to finding materials on the field. It kills the exploration in a number of areas since sparkly spots can be worth like 50 gold from the forge so are barely worth picking up. Another gripe I had was that there is now NO reason to use campsites since you don't need to visit their shops or their forge, which is kinda sad since their atmosphere was fantastic. Instead of making items while your buds sit in the background training or just simply resting, the vast majority of crafting goes on in a strange tiled void. Finally, I think the new stories were good... except for hendrik's. Don't get me wrong, the scene and fight were fantastic but it felt like a slap in the face to jasper for hendrik to say "we both fight for you together now" only for the only form that took was a crappy piece of armor. Literally - if you'd given hendrik access to the zam family of spells, it'd have been way more meaningful of a scene since that would've been something you'd use a lot, rather than armor that sits in the inventory collecting dust. I hope I don't come off as too incredibly salty. I've been having a blast reliving the original, and the 2D mode, tokkles and better costume system put this on par with the original for me. Heck, even just playing it without lag unlike my 6 year old PC was a special experience. I just found some of the changes rubbed up against the spirit of the original. [link] [comments]
I think I may be done with this after the first postgame trial but just to get some advice please Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:12 AM PDT Hi all, First off, loved the game up until this point. I am playing on normal mode as I am not great at these games, and have found it challenging in places (end of "normal" game boss took me several goes) but am mainly enjoying the world, story and characters. [DQ11 SPOILERS] I Found a Weird Glitch Involving Photo Mode and Dying Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:04 AM PDT Not sure if this has been found yet, I imagine it has since the game is a couple years old at this point, but I couldn't find anything by Googling it. I was behind the Ultimate Key door in the Battleground, and I fought the Crystalotl. As I seem to be horribly under-leveled (first time ever playing the game, it's amazing by the way), I died pretty quickly. I somehow activated photo mode during the fade to black to pick how I want to respawn, and I selected to start at the camp in the Battleground. As the screen faded back in, I was in the dialogue with the statue, but the camera was still in photo mode in the room behind the Ultimate Key door. When I exited the text box and photo mode, I just plopped out of nowhere and was back behind the door! I didn't get a good video of the first time it happened, but I was able to re-create the glitch by just mashing up on the D-Pad like crazy when I died. I'm wondering what might happen if this glitch is performed when the last save is in a different zone entirely. [link] [comments]
Who uses the Dragon Quest XI "Tactics" feature to the fullest extent? Posted: 29 Oct 2019 01:16 AM PDT I find the AI to be fairly efficient when it comes to battling the enemies. Generally I have it set to "Fight Wisely" with Rab and Serena set to "Focus on Healing". This is generally my setup and it hasn't failed me much. However, I only take manual control when I need to do something specific, such as use specific pep powers or am farming items through Half-Inch or something like that. Beyond that, I generally just watch as the party I've set up goes on to fight bosses and such. They generally do a good job. Especially since I do a pretty good job of being overleveled. One such example is, my second playthrough to rectify many of my mistakes, I have my party all above 60+ and the Hero at 69 and they utterly dunked the second to last boss of Act 2. Drain Quest 11 S with Dragon Quest 8 Music Posted: 29 Oct 2019 03:36 AM PDT I appreciate that Dragon Quest 11 S came with a symphonic soundtrack, however the actual compositions sorta got boring after a while. I decided to switch to the Dragon Quest 8 soundtrack and the compositions are so much better I'm that game. It makes the entire thing more atmospheric and enjoyable. Is anyone else doing this? Just beat DQ XI. Don't know what to play next... Posted: 28 Oct 2019 04:26 PM PDT Just got finished beating the true ending of DQ XI and I loved everything about it. I'm in a turn based rpg kind of mood, so I want to find another game similar to it, but I'm at a loss for a new one I haven't played yet. Anyone have any recommendations? I have ps4, switch, and pc. Here's what I've already beaten that I can think of right now Chrono Trigger Most FFs Persona 4-5 Octopath Traveler DQ XI [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Oct 2019 01:37 AM PDT I tried completing the monster and item lists as I went through each area, but there are a few places where I couldn't find everything. When I played the interludes and started act 2 I noticed a lot of the monsters on the list had been replaced with new ones. Have I missed my chance to complete the bestiary? Or will I still be able to get those missing monsters in acts 2 and 3? [link] [comments]
