The balance of grinding requirements Posted: 03 Feb 2020 04:50 AM PST I believe the key to DQ success is how the grind loop - Go to area, grind monsters, level up, get new gear, repeat is done perfectly. Progression doesnt feel like a slog, the more you play the more powerful you feel relatively quickly and its a good feeling. I think its why they are able to stretch out a single player game 80+ hours if people are looking to be completionists. I know people knock on DQ for being a "grind" but compared to anything else its the most relaxing and low stress fun grind for me. Even from DQ1 there is something about sitting down for a couple hours and actually gaining some levels or getting enough gold for new equipment that makes you end the play session feeling accomplished. If you look at other forms of "grind" media like MMOs and other RPGs I really feel they miss the mark on what they ask of the player. Leveling up in a MMO is a slogggg imo. Any korean RPG asks hundreds and hundreds of hours of you to get anywhere. If you go back to early pokemon games, I felt that was even more grindy than DQ without exp share. Having to level every pokemon individually if you were looking to tackle competitive and end game stuff was a big hill to climb. Gacha games, oh boy even worse. Curious how dragon quest of the stars and DQ Walk will pan out. I just feel DQ has nailed the loop, making the grind fun and addicting. The only other game I feel that has made an addicting gameplay loop like DQ for me is Monster Hunter. Another game that makes you feel like you are progressing every play session(unless you need a god damn elder dragon gem). [link] [comments]
Do all special abilities affect main hand only? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 09:41 AM PST Further, they seem to only benefit the first attack with the dominant hand. Extra attacks from items like falcon blade add Erik's earring dagger don't get extra damage. So the question is does this hold when combined with skills higher up in the tree like Twomerang? I'm assuming you only get one extra throw with the main hand and off hand gets nothing. [link] [comments]

I'm new to Dragon Quest where should I start? Posted: 03 Feb 2020 08:25 AM PST I got into Dragon Quest because it lookd like a pretty fun franchise, also because of Hero in smash LMAO. I'm think of buying Dragon Quest XI Definitive Edition, but I dont know if this is a good place to start. [link] [comments]

God I love the dragon quest theme Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:32 AM PST It's such a good song that inspires adventure and hope and makes me want to sit on the title screen forever. [link] [comments]
Dragon Quest XI S Calasmos Questions Posted: 02 Feb 2020 06:49 PM PST So I've completed basically everything and have the most powerful weapons for each character (Brilliant Blade, Galaxarang, Split-Pot Poker, Sceptre of Time, Rod of Paradise, Hypernova Sword, Galaxy Axe, and Aurora Staff) and Mediocre to Good Armor for everyone. I'm also not on any Draconian Quests bc I suck at JRPGs and everyone is at level 99. Am I ready to face him? I also know that if I use the Super Sword of Light, it will be easier, but can I just use my Supreme Sword of Light instead? It is more powerful and would make it easier. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:18 PM PST So I just beat the final boss Calasmos and Yggragon gives the Hero the name "Erdrick." But I thought that was the name of the guy from DQIII? Or was it Erdwin? I am so confused. Were all those visions of Erdwin and Serenica from DQIII or were they just random people that aren't from a DQ game? What about the hero we see at the very end picking up the Sword of Light? Do we know him? DQ XI is the only DQ game I've played, so I am naturally incredibly confused. [link] [comments]
DQ6 via NoProgress/DeJap translation? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:31 PM PST If my options are the SNES version and the phone version, which one do you guys recommend? I don't usually like playing games via phone, but I did DQ 1 and 2 on it last year so I could maybe get behind it. I'm aware of the numerous issues with the translation patching, but having it on the SNES Classic also sounds pretty nice. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:28 AM PST Hi there fellow dragon questers I'm playing DQ8 and have been stuck in the herb grotto. I'm on level 4 of the dungeon where you're supposed to find Marek by these icicles But for some reason hes not popping up. Is there something important I missed in order for this scene to trigger? I've tried playing through this three times and cant fugure out what's going on. [link] [comments] |
