- Attempt #2 of this post. I put the wrong title for this game. I thank those that corrected me. You all have good eyes for detail. The quarantine, playing Dragon Quest 8 & 11, & kindness of this reddit forum has inspired me to find a copy of Dragon Quest 9. Time to revisit great memories.

I have arrived in Puerto Valor for the first time, and I have completed all of the quests there except the "Rush of Blood" quest. I greatly enjoy the combat in this game and I like a challenging rpg. This game plays perfectly with the Draconian Super Hard Enemies being on about 98% of the time, but Dora-in-Grey was a luck of the draw nightmare that she didn't spike down someone in the first turn, and Booga is about to make me turn the hard mode off. I've tried 6 times, and looked at the guides, got the charm amulet from the academy, am appropriately leveled, and whether or not I get far enough to actually fail from my own shortcomings is entirely dependent on whether or not he sleeps/dances everyone on his opening move. It is incredibly frustrating to beat the first boss attempting to conserve MP, and then immediately be sleeped, drained, and have my healer killed before anyone wakes up. It's the debuff bosses that are brutal and are insane difficulty spikes compared to everything else. /Rant P.S. I'm new to Dragon Quest games, is there a Ribbon equivalent that stops Status Effects and therefore fixes the last shitty 2% of this difficulty option? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 10 Jul 2020 04:11 AM PDT SPOILER is for the eighth character's name OK, so I'm playing the reduced experience from easy fights and all enemies are super strong parts of the draconian quest option on DQXI (switch version). I've been wondering about the max level caps for each part of the game. I've been looking for ages and haven't been able to find anything on it so does anyone know what the highest level you can be at certain points in the game where no enemies can give you any xp? Currently in mid game(?), Dundrasil region and have Hendrik, M/C, Rab, Sylvando and Erik on my team. Levels are 38, 36, 38, 39 and 40 respectively and I get the funny feeling I'm very far below the level cap since it's very easy to die if I'm not careful. | Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:01 PM PDT So I am trying to make sense of the whole Serenica thing and how XI ties into III and the Erdrick trilogy. Now I have no idea if Serenica going back changes the timeline or not because we obviously see the luminary and everyone afterwards for the final scenes where it's all happily ever after. When the Hero changes the timeline at the start of Act 3 it's clear that it makes a huge change in the timeline and the timeline is wiped over (hence the deja vu of characters etc). However that doesn't seem to happen when Serenica goes back. Now I know the main theories are that: 1) it is multiple timelines and there's a new timeline where Serenica/Erdwin defeat Calosmos and their descendant is Erdrick from DQIII, with DQXI either wiped out (regardless of the ending scenes) or a parallel timeline (echoes of an elusive age would make sense I guess and the story book). The big problem there is that it completely goes against the time travel rules set previously. Theory 2) Serenica either can't or won't change anything and ends up in a time loop. This to me is not possible. I've just rewatched the scene and after Erdwin is killed it is stated the reason they must in imprison Calasmos not destroy him is because there's no longer a luminary. Now, in this scenario not only does Serenica have forewarning of what's going to happen, she is ALSO a luminary now as well (which I also don't understand how that's possible) so even if she fail at saving Erdwin she should be able to defeat him herself. That would be a pretty cool twist actually if the original Luminary was her. 2 does seem the most plausible to me, that Erdwin and Serenica defeat Calosmos for good and none of the DQXI happens in that timeline. But, again, it makes no sense as that timeline should have been wiped out. It also means that this iconic moment of XI Hero being called Erdrick and being told future people would pick up his sword etc... doesn't even happen? It felt SO MUCH like a "SURPRISE PREQUEL" badass moment that it's kinda disappointing to have it be "surprise prequel via crazy time travel and alternate reality bullshit where the story's kind of remembered in a book" moment.
