    Best platform for DQ4?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 05:12 AM PDT

Wanted to gauge my options for DQ4, I was lucky enough to snatch it on DS a few years ago but haven't played it yet. I've been playing through all the games now and I'm just finished 3.

I've heard some people say mobile is the best as it has all the party chat dialogue, but looking at the reviews it seems that it has a game breaking bug that hasn't been fixed.

I'm also a pretty lazy gamer tbh, I like the idea of having a quick save option I can reload so I don't have to redo hours of exploring if things get hairy (don't eat me pls). So I was thinking of just emulating it on my phone and playing with my razer kishi, that way the graphics can be upscaled too.

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Cloud Save not working in DQ5 for Android

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 06:46 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I bought Dragon Quest V for Android yesterday (the version of the app is 1.1.1).

Each time I tap on "Cloud Save" on the title screen, I end up with the following message after a few seconds:

    "Cloud authentication failed."

Do other users of the Android version get the same error and is there any way to get it working?

Thanks in advance for sharing knowledge

Unpopular opinion: Koichi Sugiyama sucks and the series will improve when he retires

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:58 AM PDT

His music is not good, it all sounds the same across every single game he's ever done. It was decent during the NES era but the dude has been resting on his laurels for decades. He's 90 years old now. Does he even still compose the music? Or do other people do it for him under his brand name? I hope he retires, though I know that the fans would have an aneurysm if he ever did (imagine John Williams not doing Star Wars) so they will keep using him until he is dead or physically can't work any more.

I recently played DQ8 on the PS2. There was only a handful of actual decent songs, one of which was reused from DQ3 (Ramia's theme). I had to mute the game after a while because the music was so generic and boring.

Though here's something nice to know: If you played the 3DS version of DQ8, you're not missing much with the MIDI soundtrack. 90% of the songs sound pretty much the same as the orchestral versions.

So do people actually like his music? Or is it just based on nostalgia? I know in Japan, Dragon Quest is basically the "comfort food" of RPGs. Every game is the same, the music is the same, the gameplay is the same, the monsters and spells are the same, the tone is the same, they all have the mini medal quest and the casino, etc. and these are all features and not bugs. But in the west, the nostalgia factor isn't that high since the series wasn't too popular over here. So I was wondering that without the nostalgia factor, do people enjoy his music on its own?

Do you think the prices of DQ IV, V, VI will ever come down?

Question about Aoe abilities or spells.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 02:45 AM PDT

I am a newcomer to the series, enjoying the game so far and I am currently in act 2, I can't seem to find an answer while searching. I do notice certain types of abilities only afflict enemies of the same type. Lets say I'm doing gigasmash and there is 3 different types of enemies, it only hits one type of monster instead of the whole group. Spells such as boom hits everything. Am I doing something wrong, I would assume gagasmash would hit the whole group. So far boom hits everything and other spells/abilities hits only one type of enemy while in a group. It's different when the enemy use a group spell such as sizzle would hit my whole group

Is Dragon Quest XI a good next step?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:55 AM PDT

Hi everyone. I recently got into the Dragon Quest games. In the past the only game I tried was Dragon Quest VIII. I liked it but never finished it. I also ddn't really got into the rich background of these games. I had a PS2 so DQ VIII was the only 1 I could play so who cares about the other games right.

No as an adult I have acces to other systems and other games. I Played and finished DQ 1 on my Nes classic and actually liked it a lot (I'm on a retro kick lately and finsihed of a bunch of old school RPG's). I started DQ 2 as well, but I remembered the new DQ that came out on PS4 (and had great reviews). I Always wanted to try the game but now it felt like a great opportunity, seeing how I was getting into the series more and more.

My question is. After only DQ 1, is it ok to immediatly jump to XI. I know, like in Final Fantasy that the stories are seperate, but I'm more talking about if I should maybe play other games first so I can enjoy XI or something? Or Can you easily jump from 1 t XI back to 2 then maybe VII etc?

Dragon Quest XI: Leveling from 40 to 50+

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:37 PM PDT

I am currently trying to make my way to Arborist and got TPKd against the once frozen serpent. Currently in the Celestial Sands area fighting everything that moves to level up, but is there somewhere more appropriate I should be?
