Final thoughts after beating Dragon Quest 1, 2 and 3 | What to expect of the games that started all

As a long time fan of the series I always wanted to see what made the first games so special and after beating the three of them I can understand why players love them so much.

They act as a trilogy and the history and places merge beautiful once you beat them.

A guide I did to play the first one (tips, questions..) (The tips remains the same for the other two)

Note: I played them In the SNES version and In the order they were released

Main characters from the original Japanese boxart

    What I liked the most

Dragon Warrior 1: Surprisingly the game that I enjoyed / had more fun with It

    • Simple, concise and delivers a fantastic feeling of adventure
    • It has an insane way of immerse you In the world

Dragon Warrior art from Nintendo Power

Dragon Warrior 2: I liked how It manages to involucre your team members In the story

    • A huge step forward from the first one, overall a more complex experience
    • Your companions have a role In the story and you feel like a team

Dragon Warrior art from Nintendo Power

Dragon Warrior 3: A gift If you played the first ones and a fantastic entry point for the franchise

    • The most complete of all three, improve absolutely all and adds even more
    • The narrative, subquests, exploration, dungeons.. they are insane

The game managed to surprise me all the time, I can't imagine how It felt to play It In the release date

Note: DQ11 have a lot of references / similarities to DQ3 (even In the structure of the game)

Dragon Warrrior spells guide Nintendo Power

What you should consider before playing them

Every one Is focused on different things so you can't expect the same experiencie

But expect a lot of farming specially from the first two

DQ1 .- It don't have a narrative because Is focused on the journey

    • That Is not necesarely bad, I personally liked that freedom of exploring at your own will
    • Some things are absurdly hidden so you may need a guide to play the game

DQ2 .- Is more lineal with more focus on the narrative but with less freedom

    • You need to follow a certain path with more narrative elements
    • The map Is imense and some of the exploration Is an absolute mess (Specially In the sea)
    • Not so remarkable as the other games but It's still a really good experience

DQ3 .- Is a more complete experience and more similar to modern JRPGs

    • A lot of optional content with amazing plots and characters
    • Your companions don't take any role In the game (only being there for battles)
    • The class mechanics can be a little confusing at first because they are really complex

Trivia: In America the games where named Dragon Warrior instead of Dragon Quest

    Dragon Quest 3 Japanese art

Should I need to play every each of them?

Every one has It's unique things and I think It's worth It playing all of them but you can skip them If you want.

But If you can only play one I should go with 3, It's a fantastic entry to the trilogy / franchise and maybe It encourages you to play the other 2.

    Final thoughts

If I could go back before I played them I absolutely play them again

I really enjoyed all three games and all they had to offer. It helped me to have a broader vision of the franchise and how everything has evolved over the years

I didn't went that deep In every game because I don't want this post to be a encyclopedia but I could spend hours and hours talking about how much I loved the experience that games delivered me.

All the epic battles, music, moments, characters, cities, even the minigames.. I just loved exploring and discovering all of that. I can't see nothing more that all the love that were put into these games and how special they make you feel.

I can't say nothing more than give them a try! And Thank you for your attention!

Already played 8 and 11, but now I wanted to play all games in order. So I'm gonna start with DQ1

OMG, I had so much fun

The story they told, the companions I made. "It was real to me".

I still miss my friends I left behind after I shattered that Sphere.

Calosmas was a bitch, after you know the secret, killed him at level 87 with out no challenge on normal.

The regular metal slimes don't give enough experience

If you ever wanted to get into the series and don't know where to start, start with 4. It's short and not too hard. Plus, it's super easy to grind (mid to late game). Also the chapter format eases you into the gameplay. Plus it's a great game. Here's my 100% completed save less than 20 hours.

    Now i'm at Ygdrasil, again

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 01:30 AM PDT

I'm back in time and everyone is at around level 30, I'm at lv. 63 and i don't have any of the big swords abilities. (I'm italian so I don't know the english names of the game, like Kabuff...). What should I do? Farm?

    Finally, i've completed DQ XI

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:57 PM PDT

I had everyone at around level 65, the only thing I hated was that one part of the final boss could resurrect the other, but, luckily, it missed and i won. Now i'm watching the credits, so I don't know anything about Veronica in the post game (don't spoil), but i know that she will resurrect in some way.

Dragon Quest Players of Japan, what Dragon Quest rumors are true?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 04:02 PM PDT

I've heard truancy rates of students spike and adults call off in mass in Japan when a new DQ game releases. Is that true or is all the rumors exaggerated?

    Jackpot bunny girl

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 04:18 PM PDT

I've seen a lot of reference to this bunny girl and waiting till she says a special phrase before hitting the roulette table.

Apparently one is supposed to wait until she says a certain phrase before playing, but the thingy is no one has mentioned what exactly that phrase is. Most online guides say "something about someone winning soon" or something like that. Well, she almost always says something about someone winning soon, she has at least 2 variations of that.

Anyway, does anyone know off the top of their head the exact phrase I should be looking for?

    Thanks
