Dragon Quest VI is really fun

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:21 AM PST

I know the game's not that popular, but it's one of my favourite DQ games by far!
Sure. the story isn't award winner or something, but i don't think any DQ game is, the story is good and epic enough for what it is, the characters are also pretty fun with the party chat features, their interations are always quirky and fun!

The gameplay is super adicting and fun, even if it's simple it has a surprising amount of deep with all those diferent vocations and the natural stats of your characters, plus a bunch of boss fights require strategy (unless you're overleveled or something), making some boss battles really fun and memorable.

Definitely one of my fav DQs!

I finally beat Dragon Quest II!

So I found this. It's a LINE sticker set which was only released in Japan, and it's also a promotional for Dragon Quest XI S.

Been playing Yakuza 7 and had a thought

Ichi the protagnist is a masive DQ fanboy who got arrested in 2001 and realsed in 2019 so I can only imagine how much his mind would be blown by Dragon Quest 8 through 11 and that he can play the first 8 on his new phone.

A Learning Experience! Anyone else feel this way?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 09:50 AM PST

When i was a young boy, the original DQ and FF on NES had me hooked at like 6 years old. Loved the JRPG genre back in the late 80s and 90s, and have loved RPGs in general my entire life. Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior to us older heads), in particular. While some may regard these as just games, i can say it gave me one great skill, and i think others likely have gained this skill as well:

I WAS ALWAYS BETTER AT READING/SPELLING/GRAMMAR/VOCABULARY THAN ANY OF THE NON-RPG-PLAYING CHILDREN IN CLASS, BY FAR, AND STILL AM AN EXCEPTIONAL READER AND WRITER AS AN ADULT.

Comment if you feel RPGs helped you in this aspect of childhood!

Currently playing VI, what should I play next?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 06:11 AM PST

I've been playing in order of release and will have completed I-VI. Should I go chronological to VII next or jump to IX since that was still a DS title? I'm leaning towards VII but not 100% certain yet.

[DQXI] Help, stuck at boss fight

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:21 AM PST

I'm stuck at the Mordagon fight in act 2, and in the second phase I run out of magic before I can even kill the tail. I already tried going to the Casino, but I don't know if I'm being very unlucky but I'm not getting enough coins to get the sage elixir. I also tried going to different places to try and get drops but nothing worked. Any tips on this fight and where to get these items?

Should I get 4 and 5 for the DS?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:50 AM PST

I have 6, which I haven't played yet. I saw the 5 movie, is it worth getting 4 and 5?

DQVII 3DS - Useful abilities to learn

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:15 AM PST

I'm working out my final party for the 3DS version of VII and so far have come up with this progression chart:

HERO: Priest, Martial Artist, Warrior --> Paladin, Gladiator --> Champion --> Hero

RUFF: Thief, Sailor, Shepherd, Priest, Martial Artist --> Pirate, Monster Masher, Paladin --> Hero

AISHE: Priest, Martial Artist, Warrior --> Paladin, Gladiator --> Champion

MARIBEL: Jester, Troubadour, Dancer, Priest, Mage --> Luminary, Sage --> Druid

I was wondering if there are any other basic classes with skills worth learning that aren't included on my list. Particularly for Aishe, who covers the same basic classes as the Hero but has less overall to master because she won't be progressing to Hero.

    DQ XI Questions [spoilers]

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:08 AM PST

    Hi!

I just finished the DQ XI Echos demo last night and wanted to ask a few questions. I've been looking for a game to get into but I'm not sure I want to buy this game.

    How good is 2D mode?

Does time travel become a prominent theme in the game? Yes/No?

How deep does the crafting system go compared to the demo?

How bad is the grind? It seems almost every JRPG just has to make you grind stuff out, is there any brick walls?

    Does the skill system expand?

Does Veronica get thirsty? Cause like, I really don't want to deal with that sort of thing in a game. Yeah, I get that she's older mentally and stuff, but I really don't want to deal with that.

Later, when there are more party members, can you switch out the Luminary? If I need to get others some XP, I don't want him over leveled.

    Thanks in advance!

There are thing about this game so far that I don't like but there are things that interest me. The crafting a system is neat, the skill system is forgiving, and the combat is serviceable (It's basically Final Fantasy X turn based, or maybe X took the system from Dragon Quest).

    Dragon Quest 8 3DS prices???

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 07:22 AM PST

This is literally the only one I don't own (I have on PS2). I bought 5, 6, 7 from spring to summer, and just got 4 yesterday.

Back in May is saw DQ8 was running $25 so I didn't bother to pick it up due to it being plentiful and cheap. Now it's $100?!?!

    Woe is me...

Question - should I bother with XI’s super bosses on Stronger Monsters?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 07:51 AM PST

I love the game and just finished it for the first time. I played with Stronger Monsters turned on as a friend had told me that he thought the game was too easy.

I've done all of Tickington too, aside from the optional bosses at the end. My question is, are they worth fighting when I know it's going to be a hard slog? Is there any actual story to see behind them or is it just a few extra items?

    Terry is overrated (spoilers)

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 01:57 PM PST

I thought he was completely unlikeable and fairly useless in Dragon Quest VI, and the former without the latter in Heroes. His much more likeable sister should have gotten his slot in Heroes. Or, better yet, perhaps they could have featured more than two DQVI characters who are the most predictable contributions.

    Why is he so popular?

    Is Don Rodrigo actually Pankraz?

If you look at the bandage on his head.He survived Ladja and was transported to a different time period with his memory lost.
