Dragon quest XI : is the PC definitive edition equal to the switch one ?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 09:28 AM PST

I'm a bit reluctant to buy the game a scond time, even though it's great. So I wonder if all the outfits (Hotto stuff, Lupine look, The Don etc), bosses (End of time, Erdrick armor and all the replacement for the previous main bosses) and storylines of the switch version are in the PC definitive edition. I don't want to get a second incomplete game for 50€ more...

    Dragon Quest 2 SFC/Mobile difficulty?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 06:27 AM PST

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't seem to define a definitive answer. I know DQ 2 on NES/FC is somewhat infamous and hated for its difficulty. Is this true for the SFC and Mobile ports or did they fix it?

Discussion: How has DQ3 avoided the same "Grindy" reputation that 1 and 2 have?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 08:25 AM PST

(Not trying to start a fight, I love and cherish every single mainline DQ entry, and this is coming from someone who's played through each of the Erdrick trilogy games at least twice in their mobile/Switch forms)

First, let me make it clear that I do think that there's such a thing as good and bad "grindy" in JRPGS, and more often than not DQ games have the GOOD kind; you get as far as you feel comfortable going in a dungeon based on your resources, evac&zoom, heal up, go back and experience the satisfaction of getting further and further through the dungeon with each run. Alternatively there's the good kind of "grindy" where before progressing one part of the story you wander around completing alternative quests to level up (the lead up to the Green Dragon in DQ1 comes to mind).

BAD grindy is when your best and perhaps only viable option is to wander around in circles for hours on end because the game throws a sudden difficulty spike right in the middle of your path of progression and there's no other way around it. Honestly the only example that comes to mind here in the Erdrick trilogy (at least from my experience) is in DQ3: friggin' Baramos.

I'm on my third playthrough of DQ3 and there has yet to be a time where I didn't have to grind for at least five levels in Baramos's backyard before his challenge level went from "absurd" to "tough but fair" (I usually get to him with most of my party in their upper 20s).

I've never had to grind like this against the Green Dragon or Dragonlord, both times I've played DQ2 I plowed through the final dungeon and beaten Hargon&Malroth in my first run (with zero bad grinding), yet the conventional wisdom among the fandom seems to be "DQs 1 and 2 are grindy as hell but still worth it, DQ3 is just a masterpiece."

I get that DQ2's remake added the amount of experience you get from battles, so my experience has been very different from the old-schoolers who played these games under the "Dragon Warrior" label... But I'm assuming that Baramos was at least as much of a hurdle in the NES/Famicom version as he is in the remake. Again, I love DQ3 and think it absolutely deserves the reputation it has as a benchmark and gold standard of its genre, but this might be the single worst case of "that one boss" that I've ever experienced. It's a testament to how great the rest of the game is that I keep insisting on putting myself through it.

Whew, sorry, brevity has never been my strong suit. Thanks for letting me rant, and, again, not meaning to crap on anyone's favorite! Would love to hear others' thoughts on this!

    Thanks and stay safe!!!

DQ 11 S: Can you still AFK farm casino tokens on XBOX version?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 03:46 AM PST

Back in the day I used to farm casino tokens on the PS4 through the night while I was sleeping. This used to be working with the PS4 remote play APP from sony for Windows PC. You were able to set up a makro which simulates pressing the X button. Is this working with the XBOX version too? I know that the Gamepass PC version and XBOX version are sharing the save files though. Has anyone tested this as of today?

Missing DLC Content on Games pass version DQXI:S

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 09:23 AM PST

Hello, I am trying to figure out how to go about getting access to the dlc for the wolf wear and a few other things on the games pass for pc version. I cannot find anywhere to download any other dlc and its not in my claim special rewards menu. I even went as far as finding the debug console to enable it but it seems that only works on the steam version.. I went with games pass version as i didn't want to spend another 40$ on the S version but obviously playing it for the extra content. Thanks in advance.

I’m missing a sword of light

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 09:10 AM PST

I only have the super sword of light. I'm missing the one I got from Yggdrasil. The last time I had it was when Mordegon tried to steal from my room when I was sleeping in Heliodor Castle. Did I accidentally leave it somewhere? I forged the second one already but doesn't dispel the dark aura around Calasmos.

Best build for Erik? At level 50 end of act 2.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 08:40 PM PST

    Hey

I am at the very final boss fight of act 2. I have seen clips of people using Erik at level 47 where he has fatal strike, divide, dual wield. Any idea how they did that? At level 50 I can get him to the bottom path for both knives and swords but I cannot get the essential ability divide. Is there something I am missing? I have been using knives with him for most of the game

I am open to suggestions for toher builds.

Is it ok if I play the games out of order?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2021 12:07 AM PST

    Hello there

I've become motivated again to play through the dragon quest series again and I was wondering if playing the games out of order would be ok

Until now the only dragon quest games I played were:

Dragon quest 3 (stopped playing after 2 or so hours) And Dragon quest 11 (demo)

I wanted to restart 3 again but was wondering if I should play through 1 & 2 first?

I'm playing the remakes on Switch.

    How much farther?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:23 PM PST

So I'm only about 5-6 hours into DQVI and I was wondering when I'll gain access to choosing character classes? I only ask because they do a little bait & switch with the ruins and was just curious. I know I'm most likely still a good way off from making it to Alltrades.

weird lighting bug in DQXI switch demo

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:02 PM PST

I tried the demo and found out when I am inside a building, everything is clear but as soon as I go outside, everything goes blurry as if there is a blur filter everywhere except inside buildings.
Is this behavior present only in demo? I am hestitating to buy it because of this. Thanks.
