Fun little personal poetry during the Final Boss fight [Spoilers] Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:05 AM PST I just finished DQXI for the first time, and A fun little accident happened twice as I beat the true Final boss. Firstly, when I was fighting Act 2 boss, the last attack I used was "Quadraslash" to finally finish Boss. This was a lucky touch, as "Quadraslash" was a special ability taught to Hero with the express goal of defeating Act 2 boss. Secondly, when fighting Act 3 boss, again my HP was running low. Fortunately, Party member 8 had just pepped up. I decided to use "Executioner" pep power. This did 1500 damage and managed to kill Boss. This was poetic because "Executioner" was an optional ability you can learn in Act 3, that was learned purely to use against the Boss, by mere side characters. If a certain girls noble actions resulted in the eventual downfall of Act 2 boss. Then the actions of a retired, limping Knight in Puerto Valor defeated the Act 3 boss lol [link] [comments]
Dragon Quest XI's themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and second chances [SPOILERS] Posted: 27 Feb 2021 05:45 PM PST It's likely that others have spoken on this more eloquently, but still I'd like to say my piece. Throughout Dragon Quest XI runs the theme of forgiveness and mutual understanding. When the hero is branded the Darkspawn and thrown in the deepest part of the dungeons, the darkest hour of his life so far, he's aided by another prisoner - one that must have committed a serious crime to be imprisoned there. Not somebody many people would be incline to trust, but in trusting him, the Luminary is able to make his escape, and gains one of his staunchest allies. In Gallopolis, the storied prince turns out to be a cowardly weakling and a liar, but unlike his predecessor Prince Charmles, when the truth comes to light he is able to learn and grow, and the next time you meet him he has far more of a backbone, though he's still a little reckless. In Gondolia, the Doge gives the Luminary a rather hostile reception at first, but once he learns the truth after the Luminary saves his son, this former adversary comes to your aid when escape seems all but futile. In Octagonia, Vince has been capturing fighters for Arachtagon for a while, desperate to acquire the funds to keep the orphanage he grew up in happy. In the end, he is forgiven after showing the crowd his true strength, and the orphanage gets its support. Rab and Jade, who had been somewhat ambiguously antagonistic throughout the tournament, turn out to have close connections to the Luminary, and they too become valuable companions. In learning the truth behind Kainoa and Michelle's romance, Kainui comes to understand his grandfather's feelings and forgive him. Despite Krystalinda freezing Sniflheim and imprisoning Queen Frysabel, in the end the two become friends, and Frysabel is all the better a ruler for it. Then, after the events at Yggdrasil, the hero has a flashback of something his mother told him to drive the theme home, from a time when he had a fight with Gemma and wanted to make up. Once again, in the Luminary's darkest hour is aided by unlikely allies: Hendrik and King Carnelian, now free of Mordegon's thrall, join forces with the Luminary to take back Heliodor and restore the sun itself. In the second visit to Phnom Nonh, Son is upset that his father would say his mother's necklace was more important than him, but he never considered why; when he learns, the two hug and reconcile. This inspires Sylvando to seek reconciliation with his own father, a terrifying prospect that's much easier in practice. The two make up, and the party gains another valuable ally. Sniflheim sees Erik finally gain the forgiveness he's sought, after much hardship; when Mia realizes that what she really wants is her brother back, the curse is finally broken. In Hotto, Miko seems malevolent at first, sneaking around and cooperating with an evil beast, but the evil beast in question turns out to be her son, transformed. It's surely not a coincidence that, as Atsuo realizes that Miko had her own reasons for doing what she did, Hendrik and the Luminary are in the shot alongside him. Even Mordegon himself isn't pure evil. You learn that he is Morcant, a former companion of Erdwin's, corrupted by Calasmos's evil, and the Seer is his way of seeking atonement. Even the sidequests show this theme. The very first sidequest one is likely to do is getting a man's son's feather back, so the two can make up. In L'Académie, a woman wants to divine the true meaning behind something her late friend - implied to be Jade's mother, the queen of Heliodor - left behind, a friend with whom she had parted on a bitter note. DQXI S's intermission also plays into this. The Beastly Boys, a gang of thugs who terrorized Gondolia, only did so because they were hunrgy, and in helping them, Sylvando gains valuable allies. The Octagonian fighters don't initially trust Jade for her association with the Darkspawn, but her persevearance makes her a symbol of hope for them. Erik finds himself in the Luminary's shoes, imprisoned and aided by an unlikely ally - a monster, in this case. The story's message is that even those who may wrong you, though they may not necessarily have the right of it, still have their own reasons for doing what they do, and that it's worth it to try and understand them, instead of blindly hating them. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime Posted: 27 Feb 2021 08:41 PM PST I just wanted to bring attention to one of my all time favorite games. I hardly see anyone talk about it. It has such a charming art style and super fun gameplay. I would love to see this game ported to the virtual console or a rerelease. Anything really, I lent my copy to a friend who pulled the really cool move of losing it. But yeah I just wanna reminisce about a game I love dearly. [link] [comments]
Overleveling problem and vocations Posted: 28 Feb 2021 05:23 AM PST Been playing DQ VI on the DS for a while and I really enjoy it for the most part. What annoys me a bit though is that my Hero and Carver are a tad overlevelled, so they have been at the level cap or 1 above it for most areas recently (just got beyond the gate that leads to Howcastle, Carver and Hero at Lv 27 atm). Which means their vocations don't advance anymore and I'm stuck at their first vocation, while Amos, Ashlynn, Milly and Nevan are at their second vocation already. I didn't grind either, just fought the battles you get when exploring the world & dungeons. So what can I do? Any tips? I tried leaving Carver at Patty's and leave my Hero dead so they don't get XP but that means even more that they'll be stuck at their current vocation level. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2021 07:07 AM PST I've played 8 and 11 and I have a big problem right now. 11 was a bit easy for me but 8 was a nightmare to complete. I've been stuck in every boss of the late game trying to level up and getting new equipment and took me almost 80 hours to beat it. I would like to play a DQ game that is harder than 11 but easier than 8. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Feb 2021 09:22 AM PST So how does timelines work in DQ11 or the wider DQ series? Because events in Act 3 raise tragic questions. If its all 1 timeline, then that kinda explains the deja vu everyone was feeling. BUT that's contradicted by Serenica going back in time. I LOVE how they resolved her story. But logically speaking, if Serenica saves the OG Luminary....then wouldn't that undo the events of ALL of DQ11?( No Calasmos and no Mordegon means Hero never leaves Dundrasil.) BUT that doesn't happen. The Party sees Serenica turn dissappear and their world keeps on chugging. And we know Serenica didn't get trapped in some corner of space. As the end credits show her meeting the Hero in the past(presumably before/after saving him). So the problems raised are as follows: 1) Unified time theory= DQXI plot destroyed. But that doesn't happen. 2) Multi-timelines theory resolves the DQXI paradox issues. BUT that means there's a timeline where Amber and Gemma never see the Hero ever again. (As he time travelled to stop Mordegon). 3) We can try ignore the end credits showing Serenica in the past to correct paradox for Unified timeline theory. (We can assume those scenes were her hallucinating things as she got trapped in a pocket dimension or something). But then that raises the issue of Serenica getting massively screwed over lol. 4) Assume Serenica saves hero from being backstabbed. But persuades him to merely imprison Calasmos. This way Mordegon still exists to later start the event of DQ11. As well as Calasmos. This resolves paradox issues of DQ11...BUT it raises serious ethical issues of Serenica just letting Dundrasil Kingdom and other lives being destroyed. So the question is, how do you guys view the situation? How do you view timetravel in DQ11s true ending? [link] [comments]
Best Way to play DRAGON QUEST VIII in 2021 Posted: 28 Feb 2021 02:03 AM PST So I've played DQ8 once for PS2. Bought it and absolutely adored every minute. That was many many years ago. Now I'm looking to play it again. I own the 3DS version as well. (just tried it for 10 mins) I'm thinking of playing it using CITRA, with the orchestral, uncensored and HD patch. Is that the way to go? Or have I missed something? [link] [comments]

I've come to an odd realization... (various games) Posted: 27 Feb 2021 04:05 PM PST Many final bosses keep transforming to stronger and stronger forms WHILE you're battling them. Psaro the Manslayer, Mortamor, Orgodemir, even non-final bosses like Dhoulmagus. I always presumed it was simply a RPG thing, as that tends to be common that bosses will have more than one form. But then I realize... it's an "Akira Toriyama" thing. As this happens in Dragon Ball Z ALL THE TIME. I mean that's where the "This isn't even my final form" meme came from after all. And Dragon Quest being one of the first RPGs also counts too, maybe most RPG bosses that do this take influence from Dragon Quest (even if unintentional) despite being an obvious setup. Posted: 27 Feb 2021 02:13 PM PST Similar to my previous poll with the original 6. I realised that the DS was the dragon quest console. The thing is the games now are really expensive. Which means I can really only access the first 6 via roms or 11 due to my ps4. [link] [comments] |
